Banksy โข Andipa Gallery, by remirough on Jan 28, 2009 11:15:12 GMT 1, Spot on Plurker, and probably the reason that a lot of people feel intimidated by visiting a gallery, something that the rise of urban art is helping to correct... I reckon Cartrain should apply! Sorry, I have to disagree on this. I have met many urban artists and the vast majority are white middle class heterosexual males.
You obviously didn't grow up in South London then did you? And aren't you a white middle class heterosexual male?

Banksy โข Andipa Gallery, by hellothere on Jan 28, 2009 12:13:24 GMT 1, how many people do you think will apply? i dont suppose many can afford to work for 3-4 weeks unpaid and live in London A lot of people will apply. I know atleast 20 people between 18 and 24 who have no need for money in order for them to feel they had a job and worth in life. I wish I was one of them, but I'm not.
me too.... oh well

Agreed - its a great shame. And yes it is possible to be white and middle class and still criticise that. And no, I do not see a problem with doing that.

Banksy โข Andipa Gallery, by dynamixx on Apr 8, 2009 23:25:07 GMT 1, Anyone seen my red paint? I jest. Anyway, seems he's bringing out the big guns for this one
www.juxtapoz.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=5805&Itemid=50
An exhibition of rare works by the UK urban artist, Banksy, opens Thursday, April 23rd at Andipa. The show will include the largest canvas ever to come on the market by this elusive โstreet vandal.โ All of the works on display are from the galleryโs collection, built up over the last three years.
This exhibition will show only original canvases, such as Are You Using That Chair (2005) which will take center stage (shown above). Measuring over four meters in length, this is the largest canvas by Banksy to have come onto the market. The work is based on Edward Hopperโs well-known painting Nighthawks (1942).
Another work to be included is a unique work on paper depicting a member of the police force lighting a spliff for a little girl. Also to be included is a delightful mini canvas portraying a monkey wearing a placard with the inscription โKeep it Realโ โ a befitting statement in todayโs environment.
The Banksy exhibit will be on display at Andipa Gallery from Thursday, April 23rd thru Saturday, May 16th, 2009.

I think they mean that they won't have any of the editioned canvases.

I was told at Crude Oils that it was ยฃ40,000. Was the only thing unsold at the time I asked about it... but obviously a bit out of my budget!
I thought this was the only time the spliff image had been done (from Glastonbury)... though this was on foam core kinda stuff I think.

Banksy โข Andipa Gallery, by graeme501 on Apr 9, 2009 13:37:31 GMT 1, i remember going down and it was just us and that andipa guy, he gave us copies of the book that went for ยฃ100's of pounds on ebay when things were going crazy - i flicked through mine the other day
the one thing i like about andipa banksy shows is there is no level of secrecy, with laz its very much 'if you cant afford it, you cant see it' which is a shame as many rarer artworks go unnoticed, but with this, even though its secondary, everythings up on the wall, even though the prices are ridiculous, its nice to see the rare originals

Not exactly a strong example of Banksy's work, quite bad in fact. Are You Using That Chair though always struck me as the finest of the crude oils, definitely ranks as one of his strongest indoors pieces.

i think this is a very strong image, but when its taken out its context, and placed indoors, it looses a little something
