What a crazy idea 
So this is for people who can afford to buy a new car in the first place So the rich who are looking for a new car can buy a secondhand one for a few hundred quid, and then get ยฃ2,000 off the price of that new car they were gonna buy anyway ;D Nice!
I drive a second hand heap that cost me ยฃ750 and has over 187,000 miles on the clock  I will never be able to afford a new car, and I expect most of the population are in the same position

There was something in a couple of papers about this last week in the US - and it offsets very quickly due to the improved emissions etc of the new car - after about a year (less I think) of running the new car the old car is worse for the environment

I seem to recall it's already happening, there's been a consesnus across the world that too much money has been hidden away in offshore accounts that should rightfully be going into the tax coffers of governments everywhere. And rightly so, just because you're rich is doesn't give you the right to not pay what is fair and just.

I don't know whats best  but I dont think they are thinking about the bigger picture

Not forgetting the enviromental impact of actually building a new car.
But I am a lot of a petrolhead, so I am now out of this 'its ok if its got a 500cc engine' discussion :-)

errrrr check your facts when did the huge amount of deregulation of the banking system occur? Wasn't half as recently as you'd like to think

The emissions stuff doesn't much come into it in the U.K due to emission testing being part of the M.O.T. requirement. The carbon footprint of producing new cars is quite shocking and much worse (ironically) for hybrids. Also there's the aspect of removing huge numbers of second hand spare parts which are now available locally in scrap yards but would then have too be manufactured and shipped. It all adds up and I don't believe it can be off set that soon, if at all.

I'm now getting just short of ยฃ6k from this country every year because I only earn an average wage doing a socially responsible job and I couldn't keep my family housed and fed without it. This government, which I neither support or have voted for, has done more financially than ANY other to help and support hard working people. That's what keeps it going round, workers on low wages. Too slow too reward entrepreneurial drive ? what are you after a bonus for flogging postcards you nick from shows ?
