UK Budget - 2009, by outandabout on Apr 22, 2009 19:52:42 GMT 1, 50% tax will mean less tax collected... why would anyone pay that when you can claim residence somewhere else and still spend 183 days in the UK. Trying to get muggs to take out further loans to fund the new car as they get a 2k discount is just wrong. They are getting desparate as they only have 12 months left in power and jackie smith might find it harder for the tax payer to buy her next bath plug.

UK Budget - 2009, by amsterdam9697 on Apr 22, 2009 21:43:49 GMT 1, Explain to me again how the American Government deliberately orchestrated the global recession during an election year? I know that W was more than a little evil and just plain dumb, but I don't see the "big" picture that you're referring too?

UK Budget - 2009, by brun on Apr 22, 2009 22:35:23 GMT 1, 50% tax just looks good , when the proletariat get angry at the bankers like fred the shred . but in fact fred and pals neednt worry - plenty of tax havens out there still !!!!
2000 quid for a new car sounds tempting , but what happens when all these people default payments on the car as well as the house ? even more debt !!!!!
i think i'll stick to my ยฃ600 car and head to monaco with a bootful of loot $$$$$

UK Budget - 2009, by fatherxmas on Apr 22, 2009 22:52:50 GMT 1, IMO
I see Labour and the Liberals joining up in the next election.
Libs wanted 50% on high earners, then allow 11% for national insurance thats gonna be 61% FECCCCCCCCCCCK THAT
Im sure alot of the people earning the big money will be safe and sound and continue to pay bugger all. They were paying bugger all @ 51% do you honestly think there gonna start paying @ 61%
The ones most effected and once told we'd look after you is the lower/middle class.
2p on petrol 2% rise on tobacco 2% on booze
The countrys fooked

UK Budget - 2009, by fatherxmas on Apr 22, 2009 23:01:32 GMT 1, I forgot to add, i think we shoudl be more like australia. Unless your bringing soemthing to the country your basiclly not allowed in. I dont beleive i should be paying for arseholes to come into the country, gain residency, get a gaff, weekly salary (giro) and the same for the donkeys who have always lived in this country, why should they sit on there arse all day, watch jeremy kyle get the weekly wage.
what has really got my hair on my back crawling is that when people ar eliving a life they know they cant afford every bloody thing on finance. I remeber when i was @ the brp chairty show and they was amazed to me paying for my bits and pieces by cash, the bird was an AMATURE (Sorry if your ready this) to counting money, i guess shes just use to swipin mastercard/visa along a machine.

UK Budget - 2009, by junkieart on Apr 22, 2009 23:12:17 GMT 1, The 50% tax is only for people who earn over ยฃ150 thats the break, basically 20ish% starts at over/around ยฃ8, 40% starts at over/around ยฃ36, so people on ยฃ150k won't get charged at 50% over the whole lot, also most over these guys will be paid in divis so won't be charge NI, and there's a number of loop holes in the law, you can put what ever you what against anything for tax purposes! I personally feel if you can afford to pay it then pay it, I do and happy do, to so. I love my country but can't wait to get out :-) But I'm a realist socialistic and will always vote left, not that there is one now :-(

UK Budget - 2009, by fatherxmas on Apr 22, 2009 23:18:06 GMT 1, Well junkie art im not in the brackett of 150k but wether i was or not i would prefer to spunk the extra 10% tax hike on whores, rolexs and boys toys.
Im quite young but very mature for my age, i just cant stand dossers or spongers. I cant get my head round people happy to be wasters and giro spunkers. If i was a 150k earner i would do my very best to pay bugger all.

There are such things as 'debit' cards, which are not reliant on the borrowing of money, as opposed to 'credit' cards. In fact even credit cards can have a positive balance on them in some circumstances.
Also, cash can be withdrawn from a credit card account, so paying by cash does not immediately equal not 'on finance'.

It's very simple FX - if you owe ยฃ100 to your credit card supplier, and you send them ยฃ200, your card will be ยฃ100 in credit.

UK Budget - 2009, by bmjt on Apr 23, 2009 2:45:31 GMT 1, Another example for you FX - You pay for a print with your credit card, then pay off the outstanding amount when you have the money available. For whatever reason you send the print back and you get a refund onto the card, therefore a positive balance is returned to the card because you have already paid off the debt.
Yes you are right it is 'quite stupid' as you most likely get zero interest on it, but it can happen.

UK Budget - 2009, by outandabout on Apr 23, 2009 6:26:21 GMT 1, 50% tax will mean less tax collected... why would anyone pay that when you can claim residence somewhere else and still spend 183 days in the UK. Trying to get muggs to take out further loans to fund the new car as they get a 2k discount is just wrong. They are getting desparate as they only have 12 months left in power and jackie smith might find it harder for the tax payer to buy her next bath plug. 183 days...you sure? 183 days in one tax year / 90 days per year average over four years.

UK Budget - 2009, by jon0 on Apr 23, 2009 9:08:20 GMT 1, I think people who complain about the budget need to also have some sort of explanation of what they would propose. Clearly Darling has not wanted to raise tax, put 2p on the fuel, make you pay more for your smokes etc. But he has HAD to. The recession has been an absolute kick in the teeth fueled by the media and no matter who was in 'power' they would've had the same problem.
We have to cut public spending and we have to raise taxes in order to get national debt down and no matter what anyone says we all have to eat a big piece of shitpie and work hard to fix this.
Personally I think this Gov has done a great job considering the circumstances. I love the way how the news is portraying this and giving airtime to all the critics but what do they propose? what would they do? It's laughable opposition parties saying how bad it is that taxes are being raised and that spending is being cut. How the hell would they try to make up the shortfall caused by the massive drop in public income from the banking and housing industry?? Not to mention being forced to buy and bailout some of the major financial institutions to stop total meltdown and to offer us ยฃ2000 to buy a new car etc etc etc. This money has to come form somewhere.
It's easier to paint the whole thing with a dirty brush and complain but solutions are always shortcoming. We want better housing, policing, health care, income support and we want lower taxes and all of this during a recession.
As if the conservatives would have steered clear of this mess.

UK Budget - 2009, by thegreatarchitect on Apr 23, 2009 11:08:32 GMT 1, Explain to me again how the American Government deliberately orchestrated the global recession during an election year? I know that W was more than a little evil and just plain dumb, but I don't see the "big" picture that you're referring too?
Its really quite simple Amsterdam9697 America since gaining their Independence in 1776 have never not been at war (historically factual ) Their Empire builders. They play dirty politics. Take a look at their involvement in the French revolution, the Crimean war ,and their intervention in WW II. Ask yourself how it is that Gordon Brown was hailed as the greatest Chancellor since Thomas Wolsey and yet we now find ourselves in the greatest financial mess not seen since the end of WW II.

UK Budget - 2009, by brun on Apr 23, 2009 12:33:58 GMT 1, the reason so called aresholes come to our country , mainly legally is opportunity . look at the indian and pakistani population for example . in my home town glasgow ( mostly inhabited by junkies / poor / unemployed ) if it wasnt for the immigrants we would not have stores / businesses in many fo the areas where white people were too lazy or scared to open a shop. also many of the BRITISH EMPIRES conquests were plundered for the wealth we lived off until recently ! we owe a lot to many many countries for our standard of living ........we caused the wars in many of the other places such as afghanistan ,iraq . and in days gone by half of africa/asia ............can you blame them for heading here ? we installed saddam / shah of iran / partitioned palestine / armed the taliban against soviets.........
i agree people in this country live beyond their means - my postman drives a range rover !!!! and now we have to bail them out of their mortgages .........i rent !

UK Budget - 2009, by Daniel Silk on Apr 23, 2009 12:47:28 GMT 1, This country has had it good for most of the last hundred or so years But things have changed, places like India & China will run the world in the future, and this country has to get used to the idea We need to adapt and create a new role for ourselves in the world.
We are gonna get swamped by people coming here for work thinking we are the place to be ;D How wrong could they be! Give it another 10 years and Britain will be the last place in the world people will want to move to.

UK Budget - 2009, by bert on Apr 23, 2009 12:59:25 GMT 1, WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO BE IN CREDIT WITH A CREDIT CRD COMPANY. QUITE STUPID
Up until recently, you could get 4% positive interest on egg money cards if you had a positive balance.
