Are people on here secretly buying up mr brainwash, by wallwiss on Feb 13, 2010 10:59:12 GMT 1, I just wonder if although people seem to have such a problem with Mr brainwash those same people are quietly buying up his stuff? just a thought I personally like some of his stuff and have a few prints but dont get why people dislike him so much, the prints at source are quite cheap and yeah he's got a bit of hype, loads of artists hadve had hype, he will never have the cult status of say.... barry mcgee it's like comparing aphex twin with calvin harris apart from the obvious aphex twin tunes most people will prefer calvin harris as he is not as eclectic but more accessible, i think we should appreciate brainwash for what he is, it's just a bit of fun he wants the fame and instant success and will force it upon people but we need artists like him just as we need our parla's and neckface's?

Are people on here secretly buying up mr brainwash, by walshy on Feb 13, 2010 11:17:06 GMT 1, If I was buying it up it would be in secret as I would not want people to know I have such bad taste. If you are going to compare him to a musician he would be more like milli vanilli the band that got caught miming back in the 80's.
IMO he has nothing to offer and id guess that this time next year he will just a minor glitch in the scene and on his way to being a nobody

Its a simple rule I really like some of his work but I fear it might be good just by pure luck ;D rather than any artistic skill on his part.

Are people on here secretly buying up mr brainwash, by taxidermot on Feb 13, 2010 11:57:18 GMT 1, ..if anyone is buying it, it can only be as wild financial speculation as there is zero artistic or conceptual merit...good luck to him if he makes a buck selling poo, his "bit of fun and instant success" is gained through privilege, access and cash.. buyer beware, it will rot your soul...i will stop short of saying that it is a symbol of our increasingly vapid media centric society... anyways apart from warhol (where the artwork is the 'idol'), i have difficulty understanding the concept of having a picture of an 'idol' in my house..

The problem is that california have what they feel is their banksy and mr brainwash is doing that whole american dream, no one to someone thing and they love it, it's more over here we dont like him, also he's never had a show here so he shouldnt even be relevant to us. But he provokes such strong reactions amongst people

Are people on here secretly buying up mr brainwash, by Ottomatik on Feb 13, 2010 13:50:01 GMT 1, I have a few of MBW prints. Seeing Legend is what drew my attention to him. It's an amazing piece. (I have pink variant.) To mention his name gets a strong reaction from folks. Good or bad. I'll just say that I have a love hate relationship with his work. I was going to go to Icons, however once he released Mondri(f)art, I thought it would be best if I saved my travel money. Seeing photos from the show...I like the horse (is that thing made of tires?). And I like all the Madonnas! Which I would purchase as a print in a heartbeat. It doesn't bother me at all that there are some very verbal anti-Brainers out there. To each his own. What does bother me is how dogmatic the haters can get. It's really weird. It's as if someone told you they were going to give you a Banksy...then skipped town. So I like some of MBWs' work. So what..?
However, I LOVE me some Miss Bugs ;-xx

Very thought provoking statement. By the way, who is that on your avatar? Roots Manuva?
America is a big country full of people of all walks of life. Some people like Keith Haring, Andy Warhol, Basquiat, Rauschenberg, etc. Others like Wyland, Kincade, and Walt Disney. Some people like hip hop. Others like metal. I guess its what makes the U.S. such a wonderful place - diversity.
At the end of the day, some people (not just Americans) seem to like MBW while others don't. Some people think he's an investment that is going to pay off massively, while others think he's a joke. But in truth - who cares? If people are spending $200K on works that you think is not worth $.01, just be glad its not your money. However, there's a lot of work promoted on this forum and elsewhere by so-called "respected artists" that I think are a complete waste of visual space (as well as paper, spraypaint, ink, etc.).
I guess I just don't understand this strong need to hate/vilify MBW. Or is it that people are so concerned about their own investments in "street art" that they are somehow worried that he will lessen the value of their collections? I would welcome an honest discussion as to why people feel so strongly about this guy (as opposed to anyone else) that they feel the need to tell the world not to buy his works. And simply saying his work is crap is not a discussion ...

Oh and where was Banksy's Barely Legal show, the one that pretty much blew the doors off things and took this scene to another level uh and wait for it again... IN L.A.
yeah there's a lot to rip on L.A. about, it's easy, like everyone's fake and plastic and the bull***t hollywood scene and mbw but it isn't all that and while everyone's snowed in and miserable, here it is 75 degrees right now with beautiful sunshine and I'm putting on my shorts and a tee to go play some golf...

Maybe P.O W will put out some more great work for you to buy, it's all so original on there, even your mighty Banksy photo shop's half his stuff, what do you say about that?? Am I wrong?? Anyone can add a catchy little slogan along someones photo to make a statement, how original.... Takes years of education to figure that out.... Or a class at the local community college for about $300 you choose...

Our diversity has got us here. We wouldn't be here without it. You don't really choose where you live, you arrive there ..everyone arrives somewhere..the internal world is the real world you exist in, so if you can be happy there, you can be happy anywhere, new york, New York dada america is great but so is everywhere for the majority were freedoms are respected (or tolerated!).. back to mbw.. whatever..buyer beware..you are buying your reality buy what you like after thinking about why you likey like
let's not get into bravado..i choose to live in london and love it's reality..humans are complicated animals with a conscious existence, we are pretty much universally equal dna wise and made unequal by our diversity of ancestory and experience, in personal, local and global terms.
