I don't think it is good for the scene at all. In the last 2 years the costs of producing screenprints has risen negligably but the costs charged for them has risen by up to 1000% - and not just for major artist's work. -commenting on the quality of something you have not seen, and don't even know the design of; I was talking about production quality - not the image quality. I was referring to the fact that Mike had said (on his thread not his recent comment here) that his print would have 2 blacks and 2 varnishes and was to be printed on 410gsm stock. Sounds like a quality print job to me... -complaining that a 6 screen 6 ink print is not the same price of a print with fewer colours and screens. I never said they should be the same price... Anyway, whatever. Never intended to get in an argument with you about this... Setting aside the fact that your first and last points contradict each other, have you not heard of inflation? And, assuming you have a job, have you not had a pay rise in the last 2 years? And you also seem to conveniently forget the fact that we pay the artist - the more we get, the more they get. And if you knew the first thing about printing you would realise that 6 colour screen prints don't just fall off trees fully formed into a tube.

Yes I've heard of inflation - it's currently running at about 3%pa I believe - hardly an explanation for the meteoric rise in retail print prices in the last 2 years...
Yes I have a job. I work for myself though so pay rises are not really an issue. The harder I work the more I earn.
I understand you pay the artists - I think we just disagree on what amount an average street artist and gallery should reasonably expect to make out of a print.
I happen to know a lot about printing. My job requires knowing about it. I have a pretty good idea how much screens cost along with other associated producton costs. You seem to ignore the fact that some people manage to produce multiple colour screenprints for a hell of a lot less than you do. Costs of production ARE NOT the reason why these prints are priced as they are...

To a large extent I agree with you there. Although I think there is some grounding for the pricing of art and it's not completely abstract.
I am concerned because I think there is a lot of cashing in and fast bucks currently being made in this scene and I don't see it as being sustainable. And that's not good for anyone who really cares about the scene and it's long term development and survival.

Seek and you will find a huge talent of artists charging reasonable prices. Leave the overpriced bullshit alone and hopefully other people will do the same - eventually galleries will learn and I personally think there will have to be a re-adjustment in pricing.

I BELIEVE S-EDITIONS WILL DO LONG TERM DAMAGE TO LET BY THEIR AGGRESSIVE PRICING.
