Banksy in Los Angeles, by faceman on Apr 15, 2010 5:57:58 GMT 1, I know it's been removed, but I haven't seen this video on here. At the end it shows a sign at the other end of the building that says "you are being videotaped, smile."

Banksy in Los Angeles, by bonesy on Apr 15, 2010 10:19:53 GMT 1, It looks like this piece was painted on a sheet of plastic that is stapled or something to the wall, you can see the ripples move in the wind in the video. Im used to banksy not even painting on wood these days, a sheet of plastic on a thin wall?

Banksy in Los Angeles, by izem on Apr 15, 2010 11:08:45 GMT 1, Pardon my ignorance, guys, but i'm not quite understanding what's going on. Is this or is this not a Banksy? If it is a Banksy, then Mr.B put up a piece on this shady gallery owner's building. If it's not a Banksy then this shady gallery dude is trying to pass it off as one. Either way, this situation is fu##ed.
What is the message of the piece? Banksy wants to keep the art scene on a short leash. He didn´t confirmed it and I think he want to show what is going on in Art business. Gallery Owner has to remove "STREETART" to make money. I think its a sign for the revolution going on.

"Nope, he's not painting over the dtLA Banksy, he's applying some type of protective clear coat. This comes after the Banksy on 4th and La Brea was cut out of the wall and stolen."

So does that mean that you didn't bother asking any questions about its removal - like who was doing it and why?

Banksy in Los Angeles, by highinla on Apr 15, 2010 19:46:16 GMT 1, I did film the video of the piece being removed... nothing more... nothing less. Why did you pass it on to Jetset? seems a strange thing to do, dont you think?
Actually, I don't think its strange. I don't have a blog, Jetset does. Therefor I would not able to premier video and break the story the way JSG did. Another reason I sent it to Jetset is because they were first to leak the photos and let everyone know that Banksy did a piece in LA and where he did it.

premiere the video
break the story
leak the photos...
Really?
I mean c'mon...
This isn't some breaking news story that's all over the AP wire...Is it even possible to "leak" photos of something that is in a public setting?

Is it just me or is this not a B-rated listing for such a high-profile piece? Somethin' don't smell right. Really hope Banksy speaks out about this and denies the piece is his, that would kill the gallery-owner's rep.

The piece has one bid, and that's by a person whose limited profile info has only 1 bid in the past month and 0 positive feedback.

Banksy in Los Angeles, by izem on Apr 16, 2010 8:32:57 GMT 1, is it banksy himself?
I think banksy is making a new book and not only want to show pictures. Every picture needs a story.
It s like the Robbo thing.

Banksy in Los Angeles, by Pistol on Apr 16, 2010 12:42:13 GMT 1, If you look at the original pictures there is no reason for that stud wall to be there (as far as I can see). If you look at the video of the piece being removed there is nothing behind it! I get the impression that wall may have been put there for the painting and nothing more. As for why I don't have a clue!

Banksy in Los Angeles, by oneeye on Apr 16, 2010 15:29:27 GMT 1, Of all the great places to put up a piece in LA, he choose LaBrea and 4th? Pretty obscure if you ask me. And on a surface that can be removed so easily? Might be an inside job, I'm thinking. Either that, or he really doesn't give a shit if people take them down.

Banksy in Los Angeles, by BK83 on Apr 16, 2010 15:53:45 GMT 1, Posted this on the other thread, but since it is being discussed more here, I am re-posting.
The more we find out, the more it seems uber-suspicious! Most importantly. WHAT WAS THAT WOOD STRUCTURE DOING THERE?! Honestly?!
Anyway, here is my post from yesterday... __________________________________________
This whole thing reaks of suspicion. And honestly, I think somewhere along the lines Banksy is in on it. No joke. He knows people like to jack his stuff for financial gain. You can't tell me he didn't know what he was doing painting on this 'no reason to be there' wood structure. Look, we all know and have witnessed Banksy's extraordinary publicity stunts - he is pure marketing genius - stories like this about his pieces getting jacked add longevity to the graffiti and artwork and keep people talking.
Let's not be so naive to think that Banksy doesn't have a movie to sell...
Movie studios (no matter how big or how small) DEMAND a return on their investment. Two words - Ticket. Sales.

The wooden piece is just there for show Simple as that. If you look at the design of the building, it needed those bits boxed in to make it look balanced with the real pillars.
