My mate at work is trying to swap his flags and 'I want a banksy flyer' for my politics print. I've said no thanks. Call me mad but personally I think 'politics' is a really refreshing piece of abstract art that looks so damn good in a frame. But i totally agree that the old Baldwin stuff is pure jumble sale guff.

Have you seen the amount of older canvases that have surfaced all of a sudden on the bay!! Seems like all his old work that was collecting dust at the back of past exhibitions is now Wonderful and saleable! It's just tat!

The people who are slagging Dan off are probably the same people who bought the Eric the Dog prints, so what do they know about what's good and what isn't.

He he, no, but yeah, sorry, I can see how it could look like that.. I just got a bit wound up by how clockworktortoise and various secondary dealers went about marketing Dan's work.. the next big thing etc etc, jeez, we've even got a vote running on whether he's the new Micallef..

The dealers who came on here and on ebay have done Dan no favours, we know they bought up pretty much everything he's ever done, including signed flyers, posters, etc etc.. stirred up some hype and tried to jump on the Laz/Banksy/street art bandwagon.

It just doesn't relate. Dan was an artist who painted Dogs and Butterflies until last year, now it's all f**k bush, bombs, skulls and death.. and an airpistol ?

but hey ho, I guess Dan's in for the long haul, he's an artist who loves making work and I quite like some of it. But I think the recent hype is damaging to his long term prospects, he needs to see that those around him are in for a short term quick buck.

He's now fallen off the radar and his prints are not selling nearly half as well as they did. He needs a good agent to sort this out and get him back off this bandwagon.

Some very valid points Nu, except I question the point about his prints (unless you mean on eBay?) The primary market for prints is still strong, if he releases another edition of 50 they'll be gone in no time.

But I do agree some damage may have been done, whatever tortoise (or whatever he's called this week) has done no help at all. You can't just thrust someone into the limelight like that and not expect a backlash.

I think Dan's recent works have been really very good, he's finding his style and it is that bit different to most stuff about and that can't be a bad thing. Like you said Dan is in for the long haul and if those people who are buying his work for the long run, rather than just a quick buck, may be pleasantly surprised in a few years.

With the last point I fully agree... Dan really needs is a good agent.
