BANKSY Film "Exit Through The Gift Shop", by ingoliath on Jan 21, 2010 19:22:16 GMT 1, they were paying 2-3 times more than any previous sales recorded.....all of a sudden. Putting out blanket threads, like "I'll buy every MBW print you have....regardless of title".
I emailed "cinque collective" about one mbw print in early december and they ask me around 4/5 more that highest sale registered for that print and they justified that with " his collaboration with Banksy on the first documentary to fully explore street art"...

Any collaboration would be to do with film making and not producing art. Even art collaborators with Banksy such as Eine, didn't see any massive increase in prices due to their Banksy collaboration so why should MBW? Unless the film contains new info.

I know they dug really deep and drew from some really great collections to put together quite the archive of street art footage from the past two decades. I can't wait to see the film. so there is footage pre MBW?
We gave them footage from as far back as '99. I don't know what's being used though...

They have a few collaborations though... I don't think that this (Andre 'doodle' on MBW print) is necessarily that odd. Furthermore, Andre's signiture smiley is seen on quite a few MBW prints (33rd St., et al.).

I agree with the first part (I'm less inclined to agree with the rest). I can't wait to see this. I'm heading to the Wednesday Sundance screening.
Also, I sent a note to Mr. Brainwash's info email:
"Hi,
I watched the Banksy film trailer and saw MBW in the film. Is this a film made by MBW? What is it about? Looking forward to seeing it regardless. Thanks."
Received this response:
"Yeah its about Mr Brainwash and he feels its a great movie. I personally liked most of it."

The distribution rights to the film will ultimately be purchased for a large number me thinks. I also believe that both Banksy and MBW's profiles/careers will be hugely affected by the movie. The big question though is in what way will they be affected?
If MBW is exposed as being the butt of everyone's joke (Banksy, Shep, and others), his popularity could tank. However, if it is revealed that he and his work has all been done per the vision of Banksy/Shep, maybe it goes through the roof.
Ultimately all of this and pretty much anyone else's opinions/thoughts/projections is all speculation and only time will tell. But someone pass me the popcorn cause I truly think things are going to get A LOT more interesting ...

First, It was initially a Doc about Banksy w/ some Footage "Purchased or Obtained" from Brainwash (and romanywg & JSG)?
Now, it's a Doc about Banksy turning the camera on "French Photographer Mr. Brainwash"? A Doc that Features Alot of Shepard Fairey Footage too.
Shep and Banksy are both quoted on the Promo card for the Mr. Brainwash LA show. with odd statements about this "known artist" MBW.
Also Brainwash got to do Madonna's recent cover art.
Brainwash is good artist but Madonna is a Multibilliondollar brand. To link up w/Brainwash for her coverart means that Madonna knows he's a Serious/Important Artist.
She knows art, As she was friends with Keith Haring in the 80's(he did her concert outfits etc.).
I'm just saying.
That little razor scooter that Mr. Brainwash is riding on at his LA show opening youtube video, made me believe that Brainwash was a complete hoax from the beginning simply given how completely ridiculous MBW looked.
Prediction: I think the doc will say show how shep and banksy masterminded the brainwash idea. and got MBW to be the faceman for the art gag/hoax. (now brainwash is doing the Carson Daily show and becoming a big artist worldwide - now they're proven smart/clever/witty/geniuses)

It has to be some over the top stuff like that, because the George Condo doc they had on Sundance had him Mixing dog crap into a bucket of paint only to end up with this pepto bismol colored paint. and at some point in doc. he was crying, & later talking about how the monsters he's painting come out of his mind. heavy art doc.
For Sundance to say that the Banksy Story/Art Film Idea was so out there that they didn't know if it would work. It's probably some CRAZY IDEA like making a fake crazy french artist into a brand using only obvious popculture references in every piece.
Wonder if there's a print, We'll see on the 24th when people start posting their reactions to the film from Sundance.
