Distributor targets holiday buyers with 'Gift Shop'

Oscilloscope Laboratories has made off with U.S. DVD rights to Banksy docu "Exit Through the Gift Shop," slating a Dec. 14 DVD release.
According to Oscilloscope co-founder David Fenkel, the Gotham-based distrib hopes to catch a viral wave of popularity in the same way the theatrical release did. Plan is to make the DVD and its packaging a collectible package, with a DVD cover to be designed by the street artist as well as stickers, other limited edition elements and new footage that was not seen in theaters.
"When Banksy does something, it immediately goes viral," Fenkel said.
Artist got a recent profile-boost with his "couch gag" intro for "The Simpsons."
"Gift Shop," which grossed some $3.3 million in the U.S. to become the top specialty docu of the year, will be available via VOD on FilmBuff and iTunes on Nov. 23.

BANKSY Film "Exit Through The Gift Shop", by wizzy on Oct 23, 2010 11:45:42 GMT 1, Probably would be an interesting sort as a neighbour silky, i was just meaning the look of him really, he reminds me of someone who i cannot bring to mind, and though i am certain i myself have in my time caused people to vomit uncontrollably just by my physical appearance so am no Adonis or judge but has the same effect with me, im sure hes a nice sort really but just comes across as a chancer, this is cute in some people and an endearing quality but not in his case, for me anyhow. What a horrible attitude i have, i need castrating immediately!, apols. to Thierry as i am v sure hes a decent sort.

Street artist Banksy has won the most entertaining documentary prize at this year's Grierson Trust British Documentary Awards.

As usual, he did not appear in person to collect the award for Exit Through the Gift Shop– an amusing faux documentacoops prizery – but sent a message to the audience at the ceremony in London tonight.
Jury chairman Emma Hindley said: "The winner was a unanimous decision. It's a flawlessly made film; original and insightful, it asks questions rather than telling you what to think and at the same time, manages to be very, very funny."
The best documentary series went to Patrick Forbes for Channel 4's insight into Hampshire Constabulary in The Force, while Julian Temple's look at industrial and economic decline of America's Motor City in Requiem for Detroit for BBC2 won best historical documentary.
Mugabe and the White African, which aired on More4, took best cinema documentary for makers Lucy Bailey and Andrew Thompson.
The extraordinary story of white Zimbabwean farmer Mike Campbell's courage was described by the judges as "a powerful, emotional and important film".
Arena: TS Eliot took best arts documentary, while the best drama prize went to Channel 4 for Peter Travis and Paula Milne's epic Endgame.
Channel 4 also took best science documentary for David Hickman's Race and Intelligence: Science's Last Taboo and the broadcaster completed a successful evening with the coveted Shell International best documentary award on a contemporary issue going to Mat Whitecross's Moving to Mars.
The film-maker behind Channel 4's Tina Goes Shopping and The Death of Klinghoffer, Penny Woolcock, was given the top prize, the Trustees' award, in recognition of her "outstanding achievements".
Digital channel Current TV will broadcast coverage of the 2010 Grierson awards ceremony on 6 November.

I don't tend to watch many of the videos that get posted here (what do i care what an American teenager thinks of the Banksy film?) but this was very interesting. He's more damning and critical of MBW's work than he was in the film and i think show's maybe a more genuine opinion. cheers for posting
