Andy Council - What do you guys think?, by Heavyconsumer on Feb 28, 2008 21:24:01 GMT 1, There is a thread about the Guerrilla Galleries show in Bristol. I enjoyed seeing some of the pics posted on an external blog. There was one piece that caught my eye, and I posted accordingly re: the artist (Andy Council).
For those of you who clicked the link then, I apologise, but felt Andy to be deserving of his own thread!!! For those that may have missed the thread or skipped the link, take a look at his illustrations.
www.andycouncil.co.uk/
I find his images to be charming, quaint, original and very easy on the eye. I would especially recommend this content for anyone with children. There may be some who find his illustrations infantile, but personally Iโm hooked. Great family-friendly art!
Not only that, but some being open editions Iโm sure many of his prints will prove very affordable.
Having contacted the artist in person, I can also say that he seems a very pleasant and pretty humble guy, who invests huge time and energy in his work and I think it shows.
Good Luck Andy !!!

Andy Council - What do you guys think?, by Hugs on Feb 29, 2008 0:34:29 GMT 1, Andy is a really nice guy, have had the pleasure of meeting him a few times. The top pic is also made up of the sights of Bristol. I was lucky enough to to see a lot of his work up close when he exhibited in Bristol last year Lucky enough to have a nice pencil sketch of his in my sons art book which he kindly took time to do for the Boy. Nice guy and I wish him well. Spqr..nice canvas! looks like the view down stokes croft from both 9 tree hill and Glos rd. Nice

You sure you are not encroaching on Bath territory as well?

I love your Stokes Croft canvas SPQR. The abandoned building is Westmoreland House. Great video of the Rowdy being painted on You Tube uk.youtube.com/watch?v=p-dBT08HHF0

Andy Council - What do you guys think?, by Heavyconsumer on Mar 2, 2008 22:13:52 GMT 1, I'm not an expert, but my guess would be that it takes a lot of skill to produce images that are at the same time so intricate yet so simple looking?
Anyway, I'll definitely be orderring a few pieces from Mr Council and can't wait to have some truly light-hearted and family friendly work hung on the walls. The Mrs won't complain for a change and I can get a present for the littlun at the same time as buying something I really like. I think that's what they call a win/win scenario!
Giclees start at just ยฃ20/ยฃ60 size depending. Limited editions of 200 for only ยฃ75 are also on offer. Get in touch with Andy if anyone is interested or has any questions. Contact info is on the site.

Gerry, thanks a lot for the original link to your blog. YES, you introduced me to Andy's work. What's more, having spoken to Andy in person and played some email tennis, it's a pleasure to pick up some of his work. I wish I were buying the piece you featured in your blog, but when I called Julian at Geurrilla he got me all wet with a teriffic price, only to later tell me that he'd quoted me for the wrong piece, but I am grabbing a few prints direct from Andy. For anyone interested, here's a pic of the piece (on the left) I was refering to, it is massive! It's an original and is going for the high seven hundreds.... The other on the far right is also a good sized original going for ยฃ150 I think.
Cheers Gerry

Andy Council - What do you guys think?, by newmang on Mar 3, 2008 9:50:41 GMT 1, Its a view of Totterdown and Knowle so can't imagine why they'd want that in Easton, although I'll have a drive through later today and see if I can see it. Strangely the first garages to let phone number painted on the piece, relates to some garages in Redland, but I'm pretty sure it's not in Redland.

Nice to see him getting some exposure on the forum.

Andy Council - What do you guys think?, by gerry on Mar 3, 2008 20:56:21 GMT 1, Ah, tried flickr but found nothing, either it's recent or i missed it on last autumn's front room art trail (but did find a lovely rowdy crocodile on a front wall. Will add to the list to go check out!
Sure there was one in easton though, or maybe i'm not now, and thinking of something else but similar...
