Broken Crow deported on his way to Ink_d show, by inkdgallery on Sept 4, 2008 14:47:28 GMT 1, We're all a bit stunned here at the Ink-d gallery because on his arrival to the UK, Minneapolis stencil artist Broken Crow was taken to a detention centre and then immediately flown back to his native US after being denied entry. He was about to show a collection of his original work at Ink_d.
He arrived at Heathrow with artwork for a limited edition piece that we were planning to print as a special edition for the show. Apparently officials told the artist that the rules had changed and he needed a work permit. Despite lengthy negotiations, immigration officers denied him entry and he was taken to a detention centre to await a flight home.
We are shocked at Broken Crowโs deportation, we were looking forward to seeing him in the gallery along with C215. Itโs hard to believe. We are now working to get him back as soon as possible.
Broken Crowโs work is part of Stencil History X, an exhibition which brings together a number of American, French and British stencil artists under one roof to celebrate a diverse art form. His work focuses on big murals, giant stencils in bright colour, drawing inspiration from comic books, mythology and the vast world between stained glass windows and graffiti.
But THE SHOW WILL GO ON! Stencil History X opens to the public at Ink_d on Friday, 5th September.
Tell us what you think about this and it's implications for other artists. Perhaps we can make the powers that be see sense!

Broken Crow deported on his way to Ink_d show, by dealersam on Sept 5, 2008 12:20:41 GMT 1, heard this from a mate who went to the show in brighton, sounds hilarious if not slightly worrying about the circumstances. Must've been serious to have been deported.
still going to view the show tomorrow so will update.
