Jef Aerosol π«π· Stencil Street Art , by Jef Aerosol on Nov 20, 2008 21:43:35 GMT 1, Alban is a French artist. His fake plane parts or metal things are actually very light and made with cardboard or thin plywood. All is in the way he then paints them to give the sensation they are made of rusty metal, etc...

I love the attitude you captured in purple rain. Really has a fun playful feel.
Thanks for the pictures.

cheap and quick done ? ! ? which ones are you talking about ? Woody and angela, for instance ? Is it the "wall like" textures that you don't like ?

Jef Aerosol π«π· Stencil Street Art , by Mike Marcus on Dec 2, 2008 10:16:44 GMT 1, Nice one Jef.
I found your monkey near brick lane last night. It's the first work that I have seen of yours in London which is stencilled directly onto the wall. It seems to be more organic than the pasteups as if that's the way your work was always meant to be displayed.
Nice one Jef.

Jef Aerosol π«π· Stencil Street Art , by Jef Aerosol on Dec 2, 2008 16:46:24 GMT 1, Hi Mike I had always spraypainted directly onto the wall untill quite recently when I started travelling lighter. I very seldom paste up here in France, but when flying abroad, it's difficult to take my stencils with me as they are big and heavy. I take them with me whenever I travel by car or am "at home" (Lille, Paris, etc). On a plane, it's much easier and handier to take paste-ups and a box of wallpaper paste powder... Besides, it is also less risky ! But I agree with you : the effect produced is better when stenciled directly onto walls. There 's also another reason for paste-ups : respect of old stones. When in Venice, for instance, it was obvious that I would NEVER had painted directly on a wall...

Jef Aerosol π«π· Stencil Street Art , by Jef Aerosol on Dec 3, 2008 14:26:53 GMT 1, but my stenciled paste ups are all hand sprayed, they are then cut. Seen from a distance, it's often hard to tell whether they were pasted up or directly painted on the wall.

Jef Aerosol π«π· Stencil Street Art , by Mike Marcus on Dec 3, 2008 16:20:40 GMT 1, I agree with you about old stones (and bricks). When I was in Brooklyn I wouldn't have felt comfortable spraying stencils onto some of the places that I "decorated". I was wondering what would have happened if I had been stopped at customs on the way in to JFK. 14 out of the 16 kilos I was carrying was rolled up paper. :-)
Anyway, the show looks great and I'm happy that it has been a success.

Jef Aerosol π«π· Stencil Street Art , by Jef Aerosol on Dec 12, 2008 14:28:47 GMT 1, A reminder, as there doesn't seem to have any publicity about it on here from Opus : www.opusunderground.com/artists/JefAerosol/1909
The edition or originals of that pic (Doc Martens & Bird) did come out (in august 2007) and they are still available thru Opus. Maybe the midst of the summer wasn't the right period and neither Opus or myself publicized that on the forums... So here's the info : It's an edition of 11 originals on brown paper, signed, dated and numbered. All hand sprayed. All different backgrounds stains and drips and various red arrow locations.
Some of you seemed to be awaiting for that print, from what I could read in the thread and from some pms I got, so I thought this reminder could be useful !
peace out J

Jef Aerosol π«π· Stencil Street Art , by Jef Aerosol on Dec 12, 2008 15:00:43 GMT 1, which one, Snakes ? The boots ? I intend to paint an edition of originals of the boots on paper (probably edition of 15, maybe 20, size about 60 x 50 cm) that will be available thru Opus Underground this summer. I'm not sure yet about the bird or not, and am also hesitating between plain white paper, brown wrapping paper, or hand-stained white paper... suggestions ? This is what I came up to on light brown hand stained paper, size 50x65cm : This one I like very much ... One mans old boots can be another families new home!
This one will be exhibited and available at the 12daysofXmas show in Bristol, from tonight on...
