and the other comment is ok, i think there is better Eine pieces ;D

Taken from Eelus interview in Juxtapoz Magazine
Eelus : Then in October Iโve had a hand in organizing something amazing. I was asked to handpick a group of 7 artists to fly to The Gambia to transform a rural village with spray paint and bring art to a community that survive through farming to hopefully encourage tourism in the area. The people organizing it out there have 2 charities set up trying to help eliminate poverty in an 85 sq kilometer area called the Ballabu Conservation Project, incorporating 14 villages and 100,000 people. The Eden Project are behind what we are doing, and have given us a permanent exhibit in the tropical biome there. So Iโll be going out there to paint for 2 weeks with Logan Hicks, Broken Crow, C215, Lucy McLauchlan, Will Barras and Eine. This is a project that you really need to be getting excited about now, itโs going to be incredible.

David gives Barack an EINE Canvas, by They call me Stephen on Jul 22, 2010 11:23:07 GMT 1, Kudos to Eine for this. Judging by some of his earlier works I'm sure the prospect of giving his work to the Tories can't have been too easy but i'm sure the ultimate destination point made it all worthwhile.
Great to see Ben getting some recognition and press coverage as well, long overdue.

David gives Barack an EINE Canvas, by nacional on Jul 22, 2010 13:07:07 GMT 1, Eine is nice to look at but, quality, not too sure. How much mileage is there in doing letters ad infinitum, all looking like something readily available thru a quick online search and putting them together to spell kinda random words like "Monster" or "Scared". Brand recognition, sure, but a very limited menu.....as for it being long overdue, Eine has been well known for a long time, his best canvases go for 3K...hardly an unknown is he.....

David gives Barack an EINE Canvas, by nacional on Jul 22, 2010 13:41:02 GMT 1, "Most people don't know Banksy" mmmmm, I think you would have to have been living a very special life in a lock-down for the past 5 years if you don't know who Banksy is today. Even my 92 year old Grandmother, who is not particularly a fan of "Urban Art," knows not only who Banksy is but seems to be totally aware of his latest daubings and even told me what one of my ap's was worth in today's economic market. If you like graf. art you will have known who Eine is for many years, even if you don't you may have seen some of his work. Now a lot more people do. Natch.

AS you say most people who are here have known about Eine for ages, those that like is work have bought it, those that don't haven't. But ultimately the market for Urban Art, Street Art, Graffiti Art, call it what you like - is very small - it's limited to a few galleries in the east end of London and some websites.
So most people don't come in to contact with it. That doesn't mean they don't like the stuff or wouldn't want it on their walls - it just means they aren't saavy enough to hunt it down, don't care enough to, or have no idea that a small scene has grown from the back of street art.
A piece of news like this means that the whole scene is exposed to a much wider audience. An image on the front page of the times, numerous websites and the tv news coverage would reach millions.
Even if the smallest fraction of people who saw/read about it then wanted one that means the small pool of available pieces will sell out.
Now they might want the piece because they've seen it and liked it, want it because it's good enough for a president or may have bought it for the potential profit selling on to the 2 former buyers. And that's a whole different thread...

Brand recognition, sure, but a very limited menu.....as for it being long overdue, Eine has been well known for a long time, his best canvases go for 3K...hardly an unknown is he..... Horses for courses I guess. Eine came up through the graffiti world and has obviously kept his interest in typography throughout. I have a huge deal of respect for him for doing what he does and not seeing the need to reinvent himself or do something new. I think he works as an artist on the street much more than one on canvas/print although I do own a few and find pleasure in them. I still find his โscaryโ in Shoreditch much more refreshing and interesting than the vast majority of 2 layer stencils about and sticking to typography/wordplay never did artists like ESPO any harm.
Yes he is hardly unknown on here, I doubt anyone will be discovering him for the first time since this hoop la started but he is hardly a well known name outside of our tiny art world bubble is he?? Maybe overdue was the wrong word but it is nice to see him getting some attention and press coverage off of the back of it. This will all be tomorrowโs news and forgotten about soon but if Benโs audience of people who genuinely like his work is widened then something positive has come out of it.

The Ruscha is estimated to be worth around $7k. The joke going around the internet is that the Obamas have been giving notoriously crappy gifts to British officials and dignitaries (queen's ipod anyone?) so Cameron finally returned the favor.
