Price Fixing Syndicate?, by wizzy on Aug 30, 2010 20:21:03 GMT 1, So, could syndicate 'A' all join a thread to talk a certain Artwork / Artist / price up so they can sell on at said price as well as all join another thread and talk an Artwork / Artsit/ price down so they can buy in at a low cost then sell on at a high cost when they have created a new thread for it and are talking it up again?.

Price Fixing Syndicate?, by Harveyn on Aug 30, 2010 20:28:19 GMT 1, Wouldn't surprise me in the least, how do you join?
I have to agree that this would not surprise me in the slightest.
If it did exist or does exist across this genre I would imagine that all the forums related to street art would have been or are targeted.
I am pretty sure this type of manipulation is fairly common in one way or another in the global art market.

Price Fixing Syndicate?, by Zippy on Aug 30, 2010 20:34:17 GMT 1, I had a PM from 'misterb' a week ago telling me 'I was Walshy' and that under my 2 names I am trying to manipulate prices. I guess WMH is the same person as he keeps harping on about it. I posted on a previous thread that Walshy and me are 2 different people so no point in me repeating the whole post. I generally think people on here are old enough to make up their own minds on the pricing of pieces and what they are worth. We did have issues with FatherXmas / Lampsy / distinctivevision talking things up and down but was anyone actually believing anything he/they said?
On a more serious note, if you have been fecked around / recieved empty tubes etc.. then you should immediately warn others to avoid this happening to anyone else.
If the forum warned others it may stop the next wave of fakes / scammers before they get as far as the last bunch did.

Don't worry.... I'm onto them.
Just to back up zippy - he is a genuine and nice guy and would never be part of something like this
Father xmas/Distinctive vision is a piece of filth, he has never been forgiven since he accused sahoria of faking an illness.

Price Fixing Syndicate?, by Brushstrokes 75 on Aug 30, 2010 23:13:49 GMT 1, From what I saw in my family history, the art world is maybe the world less ethical business.
I've seen dealers negotiate major artworks pretending them to be fakes so they can buy them cheaper. You can find art galleries selling prints and paintings 10/20 times more what they would be worth at any auction house and convincing unfamiliar buyers that they're making an amazing investment....
To come back to the subject, anyone buying at auction knows that they are pools of buyers/dealers. To have seen one work what I can say is that basically they meet prior to an auction and they just split what eveyone wants to purchase and there's a non aggression pact (so prices won't rise too much). When a buyer is not a dealer or a newcomer, some bids are placed for the newcomer to have to pay more than what he thought he would bid for (not like shill bidding but close)
Anyone that attended an auction house knows that bidding on a live auction and being in the room is really psychological and fast. A lot of people ends up buying stuff for a lot more than what they were intended to bid.
So yeah price fixing is an issue but has been done forever in the art world. Anyway, Zippy is right every one is old enough to make up their mind and to make decisions. Usually, people who agreed to pay the high price is whether rich buyers that just like the piece and don't care about how much they're going to pay for it or newcomers that didn't make any research on what they were bidding on..

Price Fixing Syndicate?, by cpo on Aug 31, 2010 8:16:16 GMT 1, In response to who tried to scam me sending me an empty tupe after I purchased a signed CND, the link is here: urbanartassociation.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=36045&page=1
name: Danny Bell his old ebay name: ukcartellimited which was changed to: dna-records (this was over a year ago, no idea what it is now)
Paypal address: paypal@dna-wear.co.uk
He is still around- I saw on the net "DNA Wear Records sponsors the Graffiti Jam - See the amazing artists battling it out to see who can create the best masterpiece" at some SXFestival in Essex a few months ago and that's where his shop was last year when I tried to deal with him.
3 addresses I get when googling him: 1 Warrior Square North, Southend, Essex, SS1 2JN, OR 115 Sutton Road, Southend, Essex, SS2 5PB or DNA Wear Ltd 353 Chartwell Square, Victoria Plaza, Southend on Sea, Essex SS2 5SP
Tel: 0870 1997 667

Could be wrong on that though.
this sounds great! how can I join? is there some ritual involved when you join? I love a bit of drama..

Price Fixing Syndicate?, by Daniel Silk on Aug 31, 2010 12:28:21 GMT 1, Something I have wondered about is do groups buy up work by an Artist, then work together hyping them up over a few months, and then all sell up, while continuing to hype eachothers sales.
And also try to trash threads about other artists just for the purpose of protecting their group investment.
What do you think?
