Price Fixing Syndicate?, by walshy on Aug 31, 2010 12:33:04 GMT 1, Well all I know is, if you wanted something like that to work, you would need to pump a serious amount of cash into a specific artist to make it work. You need to be talking about 10's if not 100'sk on any 1 print, let alone an artists whole body of work

Price Fixing Syndicate?, by ricobenfico on Aug 31, 2010 12:36:59 GMT 1, ;DSomething I have wondered about is do groups buy up work by an Artist, then work together hyping them up over a few months, and then all sell up, while continuing to hype eachothers sales. And also try to trash threads about other artists just for the purpose of protecting their group investment. What do you think?
Well if they didn't before, they know how to now! ;D

Word on the streets is that JB will be played by Danny Devito.... more info to come as and when i make it up....

What my main job here is to encourage constructive discussion about ALL artists work, but I don't think its the same across all forums.

To say that all artists are promoted here on the same level is wrong. Your star system is a prime example of that.... Its obvious different forums are more into different artist, as its mostly different people contributing.
...Although to collect art based on certain peoples opinions on a certain forum is insane from the start

its the reason why this place changed its name. it makes sense with the amount of discussion that goes on.

Price Fixing Syndicate?, by Daniel Silk on Aug 31, 2010 12:54:01 GMT 1, The sad thing is that it appears some people do buy art just by the opinions of others on internet forums
I guess thats partly why we see so much work for up for resale at bellow cost so soon after it was received.

Price Fixing Syndicate?, by rowan on Aug 31, 2010 13:12:05 GMT 1, I think it’s amazing how far down the rabbit hole this forum goes... Some forum topics come right out of the blue and bring up allot more than just art discussion! Some valid and some not so!...
I think we tend to see people being slagged off from time to time on here but when it involves people being ripped off or taken for a ride then I think we are talking about something completely different.
I think if there is a known problem then it should be openly discussed and hopefully resolved!

Price Fixing Syndicate?, by Zippy on Aug 31, 2010 17:51:39 GMT 1, Maybe the person making the accusations of 'price fixing' is the real ringleader?
By starting off these accusations he has cleverly managed to deflect the attention away from himself whilst pointing the spotlight at others.
very clever.

Price Fixing Syndicate?, by Zippy on Aug 31, 2010 17:53:21 GMT 1, Smoke and mirrors
Meaning
Trickery or deception, often in a political context. Origin
This expression alludes to the performances of stage conjurers who use actual smoke and mirrors to deceive the audience. The figurative use that is now more common refers to the obscuring or embellishing of the truth that is employed by spin doctors and the like in order to deceive the general public.

Not impossible imho
IF you owned 10 NOLA prints right now you could easily manipulate prices
I'm aware of a few people who talk down the prices of signed banksy prints (mostly) though i won't name them as I've only come by this info by reading the forum
I think it does happen but perhaps not to the extent of the when the market peaked.People openly flipping prints for 2/3 times cost price within days of buying the print all with virtual pats on the back from forum friends
ahhh the good old days....
