Price Fixing Syndicate?, by Brushstrokes 75 on Aug 31, 2010 19:36:10 GMT 1, I have héhé
No kidding... there's nobody in the world that has a collection like the mugrabis (for Warhol I mean). except maybe the Andy Warhol Museum (not even sure) and the Warhol Foundation...
By the way, it's well known that the Warhol Foundation is driving the market the way they want... The price of Warhol will impact a lot of their ability of investment (logical because their "stock" is composed of Warhol paintings, silkscreen and drawings).
It's known that the Warhol Foundation who is the only body to have the power to authenticate Warhol's work is driving the price by accepting or rejecting works (works that can be original).
[ Like the scandal with the british collector that bought a warhol portrait and when he submitted to the Foundation they denied it.....]
Basically if they believe that there are too many warhol on the market they just gonna reject the item and stamp the denied on the back. (you're painting/silkscreen is not worthless).
Also, kind of scandal, that is not widely known is that the Warhol Foundation reprinted the warhol cows but instead of printing them on wallpaper, they delibaretely printed them on paper. The catalogue raisonné state that the cow is an open (unlimited) edition. So the reprint from the original plate by the Foundation is an original silkscreen... Many auction houses today are selling the 1990's reprint as the 1966 original on wallpaper......
It has been a huge problem recently because not that many people trust the Foundation enough because they fear rejection...

Price Fixing Syndicate?, by whitemanharris on Sept 1, 2010 17:56:08 GMT 1, Is that code to the moderators to take me away? I'm sure you and the syndicate know you've got a problem now that I'm around. Oh well, chin up sweetheart ;D lol crazy stuff. How can a bunch of people even fix prices when there so many methods of buying the art we all collect ? Im presuming we all also have accounts on other forums and ebay to do the same ? Any idea what prints were being targeted in this scam ?
I only mentioned the Banksy forum.

Price Fixing Syndicate?, by whitemanharris on Sept 1, 2010 18:10:49 GMT 1, So, could syndicate 'A' all join a thread to talk a certain Artwork / Artist / price up so they can sell on at said price as well as all join another thread and talk an Artwork / Artsit/ price down so they can buy in at a low cost then sell on at a high cost when they have created a new thread for it and are talking it up again?.
I outlined it on a previous post on here. They would discredit members who would be selling a print on their long standing member account. The same member would setup a secondary account and buy from the same member (the seller) they were discrediting on their primary account. Nobody else would buy from this seller because the long standing members had discredited them with whatever excuse.
The twist is the secondary account would never give a reference on any sale because that would undo what was done on their primary account.

Price Fixing Syndicate?, by whitemanharris on Sept 1, 2010 18:25:41 GMT 1, Maybe the person making the accusations of 'price fixing' is the real ringleader? By starting off these accusations he has cleverly managed to deflect the attention away from himself whilst pointing the spotlight at others. very clever.
I brought the issue up, it's as simple as that. I mentioned on the other thread that you seem to be overly interested in getting personal straight away Matthew. You want to know if new members have been previous banned members. A ban on the banksy forum isn't anything bad especially when you have long standing members leaning on mods to get people banned.

Price Fixing Syndicate?, by whitemanharris on Sept 1, 2010 18:29:45 GMT 1, Well all I know is, if you wanted something like that to work, you would need to pump a serious amount of cash into a specific artist to make it work. You need to be talking about 10's if not 100'sk on any 1 print, let alone an artists whole body of work
I did mention previously that the long standing members would try and get people with too much financial clout a permanent ban. Then when a new member appears try and work out if that new member was one they got banned.

Price Fixing Syndicate?, by whitemanharris on Sept 1, 2010 18:34:11 GMT 1, But if they try to limit what we all collect by rubbishing other Artists work, and only allowing discussion about who they choose. What my main job here is to encourage constructive discussion about ALL artists work, but I don't think its the same across all forums.
(separate issue) You're not really encouraging, you're telling people what to say basically. Their is a difference Silky.

Price Fixing Syndicate?, by whitemanharris on Sept 1, 2010 18:43:28 GMT 1, I had a PM from 'misterb' a week ago telling me 'I was Walshy' and that under my 2 names I am trying to manipulate prices. I guess WMH is the same person as he keeps harping on about it. I posted on a previous thread that Walshy and me are 2 different people so no point in me repeating the whole post. I generally think people on here are old enough to make up their own minds on the pricing of pieces and what they are worth. We did have issues with FatherXmas / Lampsy / distinctivevision talking things up and down but was anyone actually believing anything he/they said? On a more serious note, if you have been fecked around / recieved empty tubes etc.. then you should immediately warn others to avoid this happening to anyone else. If the forum warned others it may stop the next wave of fakes / scammers before they get as far as the last bunch did.
So what I'm addressing has happened? You post here has a few contradictions that I would more than happy to address if you can't see them.

Price Fixing Syndicate?, by rosstierney on Sept 1, 2010 18:56:40 GMT 1, the majority of pieces advertised on here are editions and have a market value. if a 'long standing' member rubbished a piece in an attempt to get it cheaper via another account, the seller would be unwise to let it go without doing their research. if they do let it go, they must be happy with the offer . yes, even though it might be below market value. what you don't know can't hurt you. not nice to think about but it's the reality of business. also, you don't know where they got it from or how much they paid for it. the same rules apply to galleries. do you think they'd feel guilty selling a street improvements print for £500 when they can be picked up for under £200? no, for numerous reasons. if you were offered £500 profit on a piece valued at £250, would you accept? if you were offered a signed banksy for cost, would you accept? something to think about anyway.

look it makes so much sense both usernames end in a Y. Y? 'Y' not - eh, eh?
the first letter of both usernames starts with a letter only found in the second half of the alphabet - the second half people (don't you get what that means)?
both usernames only contain 1, repeat 1 vowel. spooky eh?
