Will the wife notice?, by Zippy on Aug 28, 2010 14:08:33 GMT 1, 3 seconds. The front door will open. She'll just start moaning about how badly the kids behaved on the way back from Cornwall and how lucky you were to be on your own... and then she will notice.
Then...
She will ask why you picked 'that' colour and di not consult her.
And next weekend you will be doing it all again.
Can we now decide what art is to be rehung in the newly painted hallway?

Will the wife notice?, by Poppy Sunshine on Aug 28, 2010 14:39:16 GMT 1, Within the first 10 seconds she'll notice.
Then all hell will break loose because she'll think you've only done it through guilt coz you've been up to something very wrong while she's been away.
On top of that she'll tell you she's had a "crap time looking after your kids while you've been loafing around and if you think half an hours painting will compensate in any way for that then you're very mistaken".
You could end up bum to bum for weeks through trying to do your best!
You've tackled this like a real amateur and frankly your inexperience sticks out like a dogs nuts.
Take my advice. Peel some onions to hide the smell of the paint, put a few dirty hand prints back on the wall, don't even think about mentioning the decorating and then tell her you've been at the pub all week with the lads.
That's what she'll be expecting and she'll have already rehearsed the next 3 hours of shouting during the trip home.
Then it will all be over and you can get back to normality relatively unscathed.
Simples !!

Will the wife notice?, by Harveyn on Aug 28, 2010 19:19:34 GMT 1, I'll go for an accumulator, 30 seconds to notice that it's been done - another 60 seconds to find something that was doubtless on a 'list' which was not done..........
LOL - I will go for a variation on that 30 seconds to notice its done and in the same breath point out the bit you missed.... ;D

Will the wife notice?, by howies on Aug 29, 2010 12:26:28 GMT 1, A. Hope you used the correct colour paint cos if you didnt!!!!. B. Why did you wait until she had gone before you did it? cant you work as a team or something??. C. Is it a guilty conscience that instigated this DIY? what you been up to then??. D. You trying to cover up some other odour with paint fumes? perfume??. Just being devils advocate here. She will of course instantly notice the fresh paintwork, you stand no chance, all estimates of longer than 10 seconds are wildly optimistic and laughable.
Ha Ha so it's true Men start mellowing and thinking like women with age, ;D ;D
I hope not ;D ;D
If your house is clean and orderly she will notice instantly...
If it's a mess she may not notice

Standard fodder!

These two events will not be noticed.
We should run a separate poll on the two words that Mrs K utters on her arrival back. My money is on 'can you'......we have a swear box in my house that the missus pays into every time she starts a sentence with 'can you'...

First, the bad news...
... when I walked in, it definitely smelt of paint.
Second, the good news...
... she's decided to stop off ay my parents on the way back, so I am going to cook up a stinking big curry tonight to cover up the smell!!
More info tomorrow night. She's expected about 19:30.
I'll keep you posted.
