She arrived back at 21:00 and spent ten minutes in the hallway whilst we unloaded the car.
Over the course of the next three hours there were numerous reasons for her to climb the stairs, including, but not limited to, the kids going to bed, visits to the little girls' room etc.
At midnight we went to bed and she went up to the top floor to check the kids. As she was coming down the stairs she said "Have you seen the paint peeling on the top window?"
Given the limited time I had, I did not strip back the window. It's a six foot bay window and would have required scaffolding and far more time than I had.
My response was a wry smile, coupled with "So you didn't notice anything else? The walls? the stairs, the skirting boards? The door frames?"
At this point, the penny dropped.
To be honest, her defence was top drawer, being that, the only reason she noticed the window was that everything else looked "so pristine" and that I had obviously "worked very hard".
To my mind, the brownie points clocked up like a fruit machine making a jackpot payout.
When I get home tonight I'll read through the thread and see who are winner(s) are.
