this weeks musical purchases.., by Coach on Sept 23, 2010 10:25:27 GMT 1, This should be made a sticky imo. Great thread FP.
I have just discovered (rather late I suspect) Plan B, and have been thoroughly enjoying his album "The Defamation of Strickland Banks".
"Recluse", with the string section, is fabulous.

this weeks musical purchases.., by Deleted on Sept 23, 2010 10:27:30 GMT 1, Sorry, I don't purchase music anymore... Buying CDs is like buying an average print on bad quality paper; we all have been fooled by CD, especially in the 90s. So between a 10ish GBP CD or free mp3s, sorry I choose the second option.
Anyway, this week, I discovered... (can I say downloaded)
CAN - Ege Bamyasi (1972) & Tago Mago (1971) - Some experimental noisy kraut-avantgarde-european rock. The whole alternative-post-rock/punk-noise-scene owes a lot to these guys.
AQUA NEBULA OSCILLATOR (2009) - The missing link between Spacemen 3 and Hawkwind. Some very heavy psychedelic stuff...

This is your personal opinion. I am sorry to say you are totally wrong on this issue... May be you working at Universal, EMI, Wagner or Sony ?
Freemium is the new model = make your music free, get lot of fans, use social network to promote your stuff and sell plenty of Deluxe version, tickets, etc. (see NIN, their bestseller on Amazon was also available free... Radiohead... well, they are so many example).
Music will always be there !!

Yes and imo the quality of mp3 is inferior.

Totally agree.. i still find this attitude towards downloading music unbelievable. Musicians deserve to be paid for their hard work.
Would you walk into HMV and help your self to arms full of CD's ? Some how i doubt it.

To be fair, bands make a wedge from gigging and merchandise sales. So I dont stress about downloading a few tracks

Sorry but IMO thats just a cop out. Its theft end of story. I work in the music industry and record sales are shrinking daily due to people who think its acceptable to help themselves to other peoples hard work.
As i said before you would not walk round HMV helping your self to CD's without paying but because you are behind a computer screen it some how makes it acceptable.

Well IMO I spend more than enough supporting bands, by going to gigs and festivals and buying tee's (around 3-5k in the last year). If you are in the industry I presume you are given free tickets to gigs and events ? IMO if you use them you are stealing, just like the down loaders. As im sure bands take a bigger % from tickets and merch than they do album sales

Yes, i do get given guest list and tickets it's part of my job. Its really not the same as downloading music from (Removed) sites.
i think i've made myself clear as regards my thoughts on illegal downloading and ill leave it there.

walshy I applaud you for trying to find fault with not paying when it's actually your job, I have to access databases all day for my job but don't pay to access them because my work pays for that - should I be freaking paying? I guess I'm a hypcrite compared to someone who hacks them?
