Affordable Art Fair , by ocontemporary on Oct 13, 2007 16:38:03 GMT 1, Hi all, quick note to let you know we'll be at the AAF at Battersea Park next week with prints and originals by all the Brazilian artists in our current Cor Da Rua show (Titi Freak, Daniel Melim, Silvana Mello, Kboco and Andrei Muller) as well as by John Simpson, Dface, Brian Jones, Tinho, Pato, Flip, Gerald Laing and Murakami. 2 for 1 tickets available to all in the gallery.
Also, there's 3 weeks left to catch the current round of Cor Da Rua before we white it all out for Speto, Ramon Martins, MZK, Carlos Dias and Zezao to come over and do it all again (opening night Friday 9th November, drop us a mail on gallery@ocontemporary.com for more details). The Ramada hotel on Brighton's seafront is offering all people coming to see the show 25% off their usual room rates, just mention ocontemporary when booking (01273 738201).
see you soon Olivia

Affordable Art Fair , by a4mnt on Oct 18, 2007 20:19:17 GMT 1, Thoroughly enjoyed the AAF, once I'd found Organics and knocked back a few free wines.
There was some interesting art and some nice looking ladies but the free bus from Sloane Square to Battersea Park pulled no punches with the type of clientelle they were aiming for.
Not much street art, but a little. I was drawn to some of the more odder pieces......
.....especially these by Ray Caesar. Very odd, Tim Burton stylee, but very captivating. All computer generated 3D modelling weirdness. The guy collects 'skin tones' so some of the blotchiness on the skin of the subjects was eery. They were all framed in black lacquered period style frames and looked great. Probably wouldn't hang one on my wall but could look at the images for ages.
Take a look at the website, its all quite 'out there' www.richardgoodallgallery.com/contemporaryart/m3/Ray-Caesar/index.html

We were there last night and I have to say those were some of our faves. The Mrs bought a owl sculpture (pics to follow) she collects them. All in all I thought it was pretty good and yes the lift back to Sloane sq was well appreciated.
Wine was pretty ropey though.

Affordable Art Fair , by andrewd on Mar 13, 2008 12:39:44 GMT 1, Cann't see a thread on this anywhere else. Last night was the private view. The AAF is a mixture of park railing art, budding contemporary and established names all selling work for under £3K. Highlights included stuff by Sir Peter Blake and a very chatty Matt Small talking to anyone who would listen about his art. I know lots of you lot have met Matt but for those who haven't he really is very approachable and willing to talk about his work. www.affordableartfair.com www.sesameart.com is the gallery showing some of Matt's work.

Affordable Art Fair , by slowmo on Mar 13, 2008 14:48:38 GMT 1, I hated it last year, so much crap and so big. I knowthat sounds bad, but it was so hard to try and find decent work, that when you did you were too tired to consider it. I would definitely recommend having a look at the exhibitor list first and deciding on who you want to see, as going up and down was mind numbing.

Affordable Art Fair , by andrewd on Mar 13, 2008 18:43:00 GMT 1, Matt had 3 lino prints ( from the Black Rat press print show ) for sale two of which had been sold. There were two small pieces on the floor, one on a piece of metal ( VCR recorder) and a small canvas. You could go to the link for Sesame on my first post and they'd probably be able to tell you what they have available from him. I missed the Dennings!

Affordable Art Fair , by Oliver Garland on Mar 13, 2008 22:25:50 GMT 1, I thought it was an aweful fair, the art was so bad apart from the small's, john Bellany, and the students work at the entrance. The rest made my eyes literally hurt, I mean what the hell was that horse made out of Fu king wellington boots, the stuff was kitch, sickly and meant for the interiors of prefabricated apartments, sorry I mean no, the trash bin.. I was rele dissapointed and felt robbed of my money. I found some of the Denning pieces nice, and there was the odd painting that made me stop, but overall the best part was the free shuttle bus from Sloane Square. But thats my opinion, go and find out what you thought.

Affordable Art Fair , by uksnowman on Mar 14, 2008 0:32:51 GMT 1, ollie - you didn't mention the free wine and the high ratio of nicely turned out ladies
Dennings were quite nice, several sold within a few hours of the preview opening. Wasn't too keen on the tiny canvases (495 I think) but the two larger oils on canvas were nice and they sold pretty quickly.
The 3 Matt Small originals were tasty and I learned quite a lot about Peter Blake - bit pricey but I liked one of his signed prints (La Vern Baker). Mauger gallery had some really nice stuff too, not artists I know of but worth checking out, one was a mozaic of Che Guevara called Hero I think.

I didnt enjoy it enough for them to charge £8!!! I hated 85% of it. I hope the show isnt an overview of contemporary English Art cause were in trouble if it was, as only 15% was worth hanging. sorry if im being too critical just my opinion.

Affordable Art Fair , by andrewd on Mar 16, 2007 21:00:59 GMT 1, I went down today, nothing really caught my eye, there are some Peter Blake prints, ( signed and less then a grand from the cig. packet run ) Billy Childish canvases ( for about a grand or so ) Joe Tilson prints and the occasional piece that has a bit of originality about it. There was also a piece with a red road stop sign called trouble ahead that seemed to pay homage to Banksy but had enough about it to stand out. There is alot of stuff that I can not imagine anyone on this forum would be interested in ( twee copyist stuff and the plain dreadful!) Saying that it has been open for a few days and people are able to take home what they have bought with them so there may well have been some good stuff earlier on. For some reason I have yet to fathom I've been getting free tickets for the last three years and I must say that it is getting better every time it is on, apart from the fact that there was no stuff by Peter Hayes who is hot in the world of ceramic sculpture and hails from Bath. Nothing like the stuff on this forum but outstanding.

Affordable Art Fair , by andrewd on Mar 17, 2007 23:27:27 GMT 1, I think they have a limit of 3K but most of it is original art rather than print editions. Plenty of tat for less than a grand but who wants tat! Which reminds me last time I went past Tate Britan the sign at the front of the gallery, 'TATE' had broken, showing instead 'Tat'..... Banksy would have liked that when he painted his 'mind the Crap on the steps' Wonder how they ( the Tate )will justify buffing his work in the future?
