King ROBBO π¬π§ Banksy v King Robbo β’ Street Art, by stickitup on Sept 28, 2010 11:47:08 GMT 1, I didn't realise Robbo was an artist... He's not!
Er and you are an authority on what makes an artist Remi? Lets see now, putting media (paint, ink)to a surface (canvas/board), hanging that in a showspace (Gallery), getting people to see the work and discussing it.....I am finding it difficult to to see how he is any different in technical terms from you....Especially as you have been doing graff a similar but shorter amount of time - just an observation.

I'm not being judgemental. the art is not his primary goal, getting up, bombing, tagging is... That's all i'm saying... some people who do graffiti have no incentive to create art whatsoever. Some people only want to create beautiful things. But you have a point, what the fuck do I know anyway...

King ROBBO π¬π§ Banksy v King Robbo β’ Street Art, by stickitup on Sept 28, 2010 15:53:06 GMT 1, Ok so graff and art have had a problematic relationship up until recently. There are lots of artists who have come from graff background, but at what point do they stop being a writer and become an artist, I guess thats what I am hinting at. I still find beauty in a well executed tag, its still graff but has a flow which you can call artisitic, I am sure you would agree that if Mode2 tagged a wall illegally there is all the merit of aesthetics even if it is vandalism. The same can be reflected back that if a writer puts vandalism in a gallery it brings it closer to the art world than the police station. Thoughts Remi?

King ROBBO π¬π§ Banksy v King Robbo β’ Street Art, by stickitup on Sept 30, 2010 11:22:09 GMT 1, The same can be reflected back that if a writer puts vandalism in a gallery it brings it closer to the art world than the police station. The Tox print that was released still had zero artistic merit. Just cause it's in a gallery space is no proof of being art. Tox/10ft et al I'm sure would agree, it's about getting up, not making sure the tag's got no drips oh dear, oh dear, you have just underlined the fact that the Tox print has artistic merit, the print conceptually represents "getting up", art doesn't just have to be about aesthetics. I don't partularly want to get into a polarised debate about what constitutes art, however most would agree that there are some boundries that help the art become art, one of them is the "art" appearing in a gallery or the "artist" producing a work which stimulates some kind of reaction when experienced, there are several other criteria, what is not easily explainable is whether it is good art or bad art. And for the record getting up is not about whether your tag has drips or not, its about getting up.

There's about 30k's worth of prints there - no idea how much the originals are though?
Out of interest, can someone explain to me a bit more about his background, previous shows he's been involved with, features in art magazines etc? Thanks

This is Robbo trying to make a point on something with regards to street art. Oh at least I hope he is. Besides I hear the reall "graffiti" exhibition by Robbo is coming up soon.

you are kidding right? It is no a piss-take, that is all that Robbo has to offer and I think he made his point quite eloquently - the other piss-take are the price tags.

What is this another spoof documentary, turning the table on us the unsuspecting public who buy street art? This was/is all orchestrated for the purposes of promoting himself, it is far from a piss-take, all it is, is about cashing in and he jumped in on the Banksy hype, like MBW has, and many others and it will be done again.
Reminds me of the day when someone said to me I looked like a horse, so i smacked him in the mouth, then a few days later, someone else said I looked like a horse, again I smacked him in the mouth. Next day, another person said I looked like a horse, so I went out and bought a saddle. (meaning Fool me once, shame on me, fool me twice......etc)

In order for the gag to work, won't people have to buy some of the art though?
And even if that happens, it probably wouldn't be very funny as the joke has already been done with MBW and Banksy.

King ROBBO π¬π§ Banksy v King Robbo β’ Street Art, by alexnh123 on Oct 1, 2010 12:07:48 GMT 1, i think Robbo has found an original avenue through the already exhausted world of street art. Perhaps this variation on MBW's angle will be enough to form his own unique selling point, and thus give him a position from which to attract fans and buyers - sure was clutching at straws to find one though!
