King ROBBO π¬π§ Banksy v King Robbo β’ Street Art, by Deleted on Oct 3, 2010 18:18:56 GMT 1, I was wondering why Robbo had appropriated the Rolling Stones tongue in to some of his pieces for the show...
... walking along the canal today with the kids, I found out why...
... it used to be the Banksy 'dealer' piece.
On the loop back we walked past the Very Little Helps piece on Essex Road. My 7 year old just couldn't understand why 'some idiot' would do this to all the Banksys.
I couldn't either.

King ROBBO π¬π§ Banksy v King Robbo β’ Street Art, by alexiocowabunga on Oct 3, 2010 22:41:58 GMT 1, Just had a look at all the Robbo pieces on Pure Evil's site. I can't actually believe that someone made all that rubbish and thought it would be good enough to put in to an art gallery, absolutely zero redeeming features and has the artistic merit of a high achieving seven year old, you have to be an absolute mug to buy any of that tripe.

He probably has, I am sure Mr. Brainwash can shift a few prints as well, it doesn't validate it as good work.
I can't wait until this fraud realises what a waste of time he actually is.

King ROBBO π¬π§ Banksy v King Robbo β’ Street Art, by Pure Evil on Oct 27, 2010 17:40:10 GMT 1, I love this place...
I met Robbo, I thought he was an allright bloke, I went to see his artwork, I liked it, I checked with Banksy to see what his reaction would be if i did a Robbo show, he said 'go for it', friends of mine who are friends of Banksy AND of Robbo said 'yeah man do the show '
Robbo worked his ass off and did loads of work for the show, none of which was about his beef with Banksy..
End of story... the beef is real , its not just some made up thing... that is my final word on the whole event. Robbo has become a good friend and he is no clown... He is an old school writer and he deserves some respect. Flame away.

To be fair, I don't think he was after respect, he was doing a gallery show... When I do gallery shows I do them to sell work to make a living, I imagine he was doing the same. Respect has absolutely nothing to do with it.

King ROBBO π¬π§ Banksy v King Robbo β’ Street Art, by lifeonwalls on Oct 27, 2010 21:45:35 GMT 1, The only reason he was even offered a gallery show is because of HIS beef with Banksy.
Outside of graff writers no one knew who he was until he started the 'war' with Banksy.
Publicity stunt and a means to an end? Maybe. PE gave him the opportunity to cash in, they have a business to run so alls fair from their end IMO.
Robbo is a hypocrite.

It was Pure Evil who mentioned respect. I was quoting him. I wouldn't put Blobbo and respect in the same sentence normally.
Like you said, he was doing a gallery show to sell his work after riding on Banksy's coat tails.

I never said "he was doing a gallery show to sell his work!" Charley was stating that in his humble opinion he deserves some respect... Please don't put words in my mouth.
I was simply stating that this is an art business and people on here should be more careful about throwing stones at glass houses and using the word sell out, when 80% of this forum is about buying and selling art...
I didn't like most of Robbo's paintings, but then I don't like Picasso that much, so what the fuck do I know...

I looked at the Robbo pieces on PE's website. Liked one, but none of the others. I don't like what team Robbo do to Banksy's street work, but imo, it's up to PE who he shows in his gallery, robbo is without doubt a writer who is worthy of note (if not respected here), and it is the very nature of street art that it is ephemeral

King ROBBO π¬π§ Banksy v King Robbo β’ Street Art, by hlarmy on Oct 27, 2010 23:23:14 GMT 1, Well said PE, well said Coach.
Agreed, there's too many people trying to gain fame off the back of Banksy (I can name 3 straight away), which I don't have much respect for but I do appreciate why they do it. I always thought the Robbo tagging was naff, and I also thought every piece in the show was very poor - but that is my opinion and I've thought that of many, far more established artists.
EDIT: in fact, scrap all that, I don't really care about whether PE's a sell out, I won't lose any sleep over Robbo's tagging and I enjoyed looking at his work in the gallery as I think, as with a lot of things in life, you need to view the bad to appreciate the good...

King ROBBO π¬π§ Banksy v King Robbo β’ Street Art, by twist65 on Oct 28, 2010 0:17:26 GMT 1, I think PE is totally entitled to host any artist/exhibition he likes, and fair play for putting on something which was guaranteed to rub a few people up the wrong way. Whether you like Robbo as an artist or not, or disapprove of the whole Team Robbo thing, does it mean Robbo should be black-balled from the whole scene? It's like saying "I like Banksy and he fell out with Laz so that means I can't like Faile/Insect/Vhils/Francis etc anymore..." ridiculous...

I'm sure someday you will look back and think complete brainfart oops! Or maybe this is a well thought-out attempt to get a little attention to your gallery, either way bad move......Lot's of great artist in your area other than this clown.

Yes read that coach but its the sort of question when Banksy could only give one answer. Imagine the headlines and additional hassle if he had vetoed the show?

Exactly!
Seems to be an increasing number of people who don't like Galleries, Forums, People, showing or even talking about Artists they personally don't like
