King ROBBO π¬π§ Banksy v King Robbo β’ Street Art, by Cornish Crayon on Dec 29, 2009 23:35:08 GMT 1, Okay so i'm not a "major player" in the art graf world, but i along with my wife appreciate art and the whole lifestyle,
Our thoughts should anybody care,
the orignal piece has stood the test of time well and for it to still be there or even slightly recognisable after 25 years is fantastic,
But after reading the whole story or what i'm being told, we personally thought that the banksy piece enhanced the original robbo piece and almost refreshed it, bringing it back to life and making it pretty much the main centre piece on the grey wall, almost framing it
It did look a mess after 25 years and thats a real shame, we think if someone else (not banksy) had gone over this it would not be an issue just progressions in art,
as for the king robbo splash back, its a bit strange that they have left the man there as they are then contridicting (sp) the whole issue of using another person art.......if that makes sense ? ? ;D

Thanks for the mature reply and your invitation, I appreciate it. My distrust of galleries is the same as my distrust of anyone that manages/handles creative talent and makes money off the back of it...I find that when there so many chancers out there then I am naturally dubious until a gallery shows its worth/integrity. If I offended you in my post, then I apologise, it isn't personal as I've never met ya.

I showed my daughter the Banksy image yesterday not knowing the history. I showed her the history and we had a laugh at the back-and-forth.

I personally liked Banksy's comment about commercializing graffiti.

See, I think what Banksy did was more of an homage to or resurrection of a forgotten, abused piece of graf. Not sure why everyone seems to think it was a beef or bite...

At the moment I think Banksy is quite a bit ahead of all other stencil artists out there so a good old fashioned street battle could kick some life into the safe part of the street art scene.
