That said, this one is a hell of a track:

Hard to get into the spoken word/def poetry type tracks on this one. That said, this one is a hell of a track: There's more then a couple of hella-tracks on the album for me. I love the jazz influences and sampling heavy on some parts, and Tupac at the end is cool to link the generations. To me it's definitely a conscious attempt to raise the overall standards of hip hop and create meaningful music in this genre. Blunts 40's and bitches should be out of style by now, right. Eminem did the same sort of thing back in his day, talking about the reality of making it famous, depression etc, this is on par at least with those earlier albums I think. However you feel about the music, I don't know anyone who doesn't respect Kendrick more after this album. +10,000 for me

I love the jazz influences and sampling heavy on some parts, and Tupac at the end is cool to link the generations. To me it's definitely a conscious attempt to raise the overall standards of hip hop and create meaningful music in this genre. Blunts 40's and b**ches should be out of style by now, right. Eminem did the same sort of thing back in his day, talking about the reality of making it famous, depression etc, this is on par at least with those earlier albums I think. However you feel about the music, I don't know anyone who doesn't respect Kendrick more after this album. +10,000 for me He's really great at structuring his album to create a narrative; I also love the funk/jazz approach he took. I think the entire album as a whole isn't as strong as goodkidmaadcity, which I also thought did a great job of breaking down hip hop standards (i.e. swimming pools is a song about the problems alcohol abuse, art of peer pressure is a great look at urban life for the less fortunate). You're definitely right about gaining respect, simply due to his creativity/message and refusal to stick with rap norms, etc.
This album seems like he could've spent more time fine-tuning; a lot of it seems like ideas bursting out of his head. While this one more heavily addresses race-relations, I think the last did as good of a job - if not better -of breaking down 'thug life' standards. Both are albums you listen to straight-through, but on the former i loved every single track. This one, probably like 60%.

Blast from the past. They were a great band. Very good live too. I like this tsing about the Russian soldier, the name of which escapes me. Whole of the moon was a classic too. And so apt for today. I saw what you did!!

What Music are you listening to at the moment ?, by Coach on Mar 21, 2015 23:12:57 GMT 1, Blind Willie Johnson.
Moving life story. Mother died when he was young. His father beat his stepmother, and its rumored that out of spite his stepmother blinded him when he was seven. Died in poverty. Unsurprising that he sang the blues.

I thought all Dylan songs had been taken off youtube. It seems not. I can share my favorite song!
