Where to buy Takashi Murakami Prints?, by brooksie82 on Mar 30, 2012 4:54:56 GMT 1, I dont know about that! Banksy - 2 colour screen print, Murakami - who knows how many colours, Foils and laquers go into each print. I think they are little different, I do have the original purchase receipt on both mine so not to fazed. Just wondering, what foils and laquers are you talking about?
Exactly, I've got 3 here from 2003/2004 that I could knock off within a day and with that line of a signature in a silver pen you wouldn't be able to tell them apart.

Where to buy Takashi Murakami Prints?, by teatwosugars on Mar 30, 2012 16:29:52 GMT 1, taco, dappy, mmmike and johnny- Thanks for the kind comments. Most appreciated.
taco- I drew one flower free hand and then enlarged/reduced it on a photocopier to get the 4 or 5 different sizes used. I then cut these out of card and used them as a template to sketch out the whole canvas.
After deciding on colours, painting them was the easy bit. The time consuming part was the black outlines with a fine brush. Having said that, it had been quite a few years since I'd done any painting so it was nice to get back in the zone and I didn't find it anywhere as painstaking as I thought it might be. Many a night I'd start it and it would hit the early hours before I'd realised!
Trouble is, now I have a son as well, and in the interests of sibling fairness it seems only right that I do something for him as well! He's certainly not a smiley flower child though- my initial thoughts are doing something with Jon Burgerman's monster doodles. Not only do I like the images, but they also seem quite appropriate!

Where to buy Takashi Murakami Prints?, by rottenredrooster on Mar 30, 2012 17:10:30 GMT 1, Great thread. Some cracking pieces on here- sal's and johnny's in particular. I love the flowers; they always raise a smile. Therefore, I thought it would be the perfect image for my daughter's nursery when she was born a few years ago. Not having the cash at the time I decided to knock up my own repro with slightly softer colours. It's hand painted with acrylics on canvas. Took a while, but she loves it, so it was worth it. Hopefully one day I can get her a proper one!
Pretty amazing.

Very nice thread, hopefully carries on.
That is a great piece and beautiful you did this. Can tell you when you eventually get her the 'real' Murakami, it won't be nearly as valuable to her as the wonderful piece created here with love by her Papa.
Great job, God bless.

Thats brilliant, and your daughter will love it. I bought one of the flower prints years ago and it always made my two boys smile when they looked at it, and still does.

Where to buy Takashi Murakami Prints?, by higuy on Apr 6, 2012 3:14:52 GMT 1, spectacular job teatwosugars! wow. anyway, just wanted to say murakami is pumping out a lot of prints. you just dont see them reported on sites. they are released through hidari zingaro in person only. you have a lot of people in japan just flipping these on ebay. prints are not subject to customs duty in the US, but those guys (customs inspectors or whatever theyre called) might rip the box open to inspect the contents because the box is heavy and huge (to protect the print), they are never rolled, so you risk them mishandling them if you import.

Where to buy Takashi Murakami Prints?, by Coach on Dec 7, 2013 16:01:49 GMT 1, Goldmark gallery has a couple for sale. Lithos from 2009. They are ยฃ1250. I have no idea if that is a good price. Maybe they will negotiate a bit?
For those with deeper pockets I also noted that they have a Lucien Freud sketch reduced from ยฃ35k to ยฃ25k.

I'm after a flowers or flowerball print for my little baby girl and was wondering if anyone knows where I can find one? I'm UK based. I've checked a couple of galleries but they are crazy prices!!! Not sure about EBay as I don't know which ones are genuine. Any help would be really appreciated!
Thanks in advance dani

Where to buy Takashi Murakami Prints?, by Deleted on Apr 30, 2014 8:16:39 GMT 1, Yep it seems they are gone !! Most of them were 550 GBP, which is more or less source price of Murakami in Europe. I guess there were bought by galleries such as this one which has hundreds of print at 800-1500 Euro price range - famousauctionhouse.com/auctions/?auctionsearch=murakami
Contact his latest gallery in Berlin - en.hidarizingaroberlin.de/category/poster/ Cheapest available in the market (except in Japan)
Contact Perrotin in Paris to see if they have any... They were 500 euros few years ago, I noticed they have increased their price recently.
You may also consider buying some from gallery in US since the USD exchange rate against GPB.
Another solution is Japan but then it is far Or even Ebay !!
As you can see, plenty of Murakami in the market

Where to buy Takashi Murakami Prints?, by Strange Al on May 10, 2014 21:35:33 GMT 1, Coincidentally, I too have recently been hunting Murakami flower prints. In fact, my preferred print was the exact same "Flower" (2011), which you're now after.
Now that Baltic have sold out of their Murakami stock and Hidari in Berlin has closed, Galerie Perrotin is the only primary source in Europe I could find. Though, all of the Murakami prints at Perrotin are substantially more expensive than from source at Hidari in Tokyo. Hidari Tokyo still have the print you want at 72,000 Yen (at least they did back in March). The difficulty of course is that you can only buy at the gallery in person. What makes it even more complicated is that they don't hold the stock there, so you have to pay in person and then have it shipped to a Japanese address. A friend of mine popped in for me and bought me a flower print - I ultimately opted for another version (which was even cheaper). Though, some 8 weeks later he has yet to receive it in Japan. It's a long wait, particularly as he then still has to post it on to the UK.
Given how cheap the prints are from source (they start at just over ยฃ200), my feeling is that a lot of the Japanese eBay sellers are selling legit prints. If you've got a Japanese address and don't mind waiting, it's easy money for them. The question of course is working out which sellers are legit and actually already have the prints in hand. It's a bit of a lottery.
As an alternative and given the current dollar exchange rates (as mentioned above), it's worth getting in touch with Giant Robot Store in LA (http://secure.giantrobot.com/). I think they're another official source and may work out cheaper than Perrotin even if you factor in import duties. They used to hold a lot of stock (beyond what is listed on the site), so worth emailing them. I'm pretty sure they had the print you're after not long ago and were asking around the ยฃ650 mark.
Otherwise, keep asking on the forum and half an eye on general contemporary print auctions. I've seen a fair few Murakamis come up over the years and selling at very reasonable prices. After all, there are plenty about.
