Had a Liberman email today highlighting the Christies evening sale ยฃ1.9 big ones from a ยฃ400k estimate pair of Kaikai Kiki sculptures as in Versailles. Bonkers.

Finally found a original frame made for this print by Kaikaikiki at a US gallery. Very happy with the result.

And I join walshy when he says that you can't buy new releases online. The new prints are only released now through murakami's gallery in Japan.

You have to queue and collect in person. So if you're not in Japan, you'll have to go on the secondary market.
Emmanuel Perrotin's gallery in Paris sometimes have some of the new releases but I don't know if you can consider as a primary source as the price they will charge differ from the original price in Japan and they do not ship as well!
It's a little bit like banksy or nick releases when people had to queue to get a print and then flip it on ebay..

And I like murakami, but him at the versailles does seem a little ridiculous. I thought jeff koons showing there was really interesting. The contrast in some of his work was so strong and absurd at times and yet blended in surprisingly well at other times. A nice counterpoint to the rich murals in the versailles. I thought it was a great one off exhibition idea, when I heard they were going to do the same with Murakami and potentially a continual series with famous pop stars, it starts to ring like a cheap publicity stunt to drum up tourism.
