Banksy • Choose Your Weapon Print, by Deleted on Dec 11, 2010 7:57:32 GMT 1, This thread sure took a rather dark and negative turn. Sounds like a real sh*tshow out there. That's a real shame. They should have gone with a larger edition size or priced it closer to market value, then they wouldn't be having these problems.
Completely agree. This annual thread always brings out the worst in people....lets face it, if you're earning £70 a day on a building site and don't mind a ruck (and I know plenty of people who work in offices who like a ruck too) then you're not going to pass up an opportunity to bag a quick grand or so.
Presume any people getting a dig are the people sticking up for themselves....
POW have created a monster and failed to cage it.

Banksy • Choose Your Weapon Print, by Standard on Dec 11, 2010 8:01:04 GMT 1, Queuing is a silly idea no matter how it's done. There are better ways and POW should be looking at the core fans of the artist as to how they can better serve them and limit the chances of flippers. There are constructive ways in which to do so, selling at market value is the most obvious and if they want to pass the work on for reduced value to true fans then introducing something like I posted earlier may also work.

It angers me, POW did let people know prior to the email going out. I went to a Invader night once, and post of the work had sold out and i was first to arrive!!!
Its who you know, not what you know!

The que system seems to be the best possible system for the flippers who have no problem pushing in to get the money.

Banksy • Choose Your Weapon Print, by Standard on Dec 11, 2010 8:12:47 GMT 1, The online lotto is also seriously flawed. People are going to go and register from as many different ISP's as possible because they know that there are going to be 1000's of profit hungry people doing the same - it's not hard these days when you mat be able to do so from work, family, iphone etc etc. It's open for far too long and it's not going to do anything for the real fans.
Removing the profit is the only answer.

Have woken up to read this. Glad i didn't bother driving up from Torquay. Good Luck 'proper' art people, lets hope the universe steps in to sort it out.

Banksy • Choose Your Weapon Print, by Deleted on Dec 11, 2010 8:22:09 GMT 1, Standard Daz your probably right.Damned if you do damned if you dont.I still like the possibility of a Banksy fan who loves the image being able to get it from POW at cost though. Im sure there will be some forum winners of the lottery and maybe even from the que who wont have a problem at all with the way it went. Good luck everybody.

Banksy • Choose Your Weapon Print, by otomi on Dec 11, 2010 8:33:11 GMT 1, good luck to everyone
I miss the good old bun fight no one got hurt during those
If all the money is for charity why not make more than one edition a year would be more money for good causes
with the movie and all - i think more than one print must have been possible - couple of movie rat etc.
btw arrested motion announced the print so add 50k more people to the lottery

Banksy • Choose Your Weapon Print, by Standard on Dec 11, 2010 8:35:45 GMT 1, I would love to get one of these at the lower value too - and happily throw the best part of £300 to have it framed by Gary and stick it on my wall for years to come. I said in the street thread & as soon as this image went up that I hope that this is the next print. It is likely to be my first banksy purchase, & I knew that this is likely to be at the 2nd hand market value.
Sadly the instant profit in these is the vicious animal - Banksy gives his fans his artwork for free, it's on the streets. If you want to collect then buy at market value like any other artist selling their work - or if POW can introduce a reduced rate system for collectors then fair enough but for any new buyer (me included) then you should pay full price and put an end to instant flipping. For starters it would create more money for POW & more for the charity.

Banksy • Choose Your Weapon Print, by otomi on Dec 11, 2010 8:37:29 GMT 1, raising the prints to market price is not a great idea because then the prints are only for the rich how about bringing down the market price by releasing more new prints and eliminating the need for an overpriced secondary market
of course that doesn't work for people with a lot of old prints
oh well everyone will complain unless they get a print - including me

Banksy • Choose Your Weapon Print, by bullet on Dec 11, 2010 8:41:07 GMT 1, Just got back from the queue. Omfg it was hilarious... Someones head got stamped in, 2 other physical assaults and dodgy polish guys as far as the eyes could see. Location switches.
Sounds hilarious. This is in no way melodramatic, but after tonight (and expect an influx of the same thoughts at any moment...
i think a few people there tonight have lost a bit of respect for pow and banksy. Utter piss up. Sack the security as well, they were s**te. 2 people for a queue of 250 people.
People that were on the surface civilised and happy nicey talking about fairies and banksy times gone by sitting in their awful pop up seats soon turned to wild animals.
Slow clap. Very slow clap.
Also i get the feeling that after tonight.. You will never see a store banksy release ever again and thats a given i think.
