Banksy • Choose Your Weapon Print, by G-Man on Dec 11, 2010 8:42:45 GMT 1, I feel really saddened but not surprised by Grafiks tale of the night.
POW should have sorted all this they knew it was gonna happen
So glad that I couldnt make it into London

Banksy • Choose Your Weapon Print, by Deleted on Dec 11, 2010 8:43:14 GMT 1, Thinking about it.....ive got no hope in the lottery. Got as much chance of winning the national lottery. The whole thing is a joke really.
You've got as much chance on the Banksy lottery as anyone else I think, unlike the NW lottery which was allegedly unfair.
I do wonder why these are released at £450 when net proceeds of sale are off to Voina? Surely they'd appreciate another £375,000 or so but then I guess this release heightens awareness of them by more than £375,000 could ever do in publicity terms?
Job done.....

why is everyone complaining they sell the print to cheap - 450pounds is a lot of money for a print with a an edition of 375 plus some alleged gold and silver versions

Banksy • Choose Your Weapon Print, by Standard on Dec 11, 2010 8:50:06 GMT 1, charging 3k for a print is ridiculous if they would the secondary market would collapse and pow/laz don't want that and a lot of people here neither
? why would it collapse ?
there are alternatives and ways to reduce the fee for those that have every intention of keeping their purchase but as far as I am concerned if you are a fresh buyer then you pay what it's worth!

Of course they don't want that but they could charge 'more' (not sure how much more...say £1750) and this would make people think twice?
The old Banksy wants to give his fans an opportunity to buy at reasonable price doesn't wash any more as proportionately less of his fans achieve a purchase at release as the years go on....the 'fans' side of this argument holds no water either (as in I can't afford £2000? blah blah). I'd quite like a Ferrari California but I can't afford it - guess what, don't have one but a lucky few do.
Once again (although galls me) agree with Freerange, these events discredit POW and Banksy in my view. It's not their fault of course but they do have control therefore culpability.

I hope they can otomi.
However £450 is not a lot of money to pay for something that is instantly worth 4 or 5 times that amount. If fans want one then they save just like me & you.
Nothing you can do about those that are rich.

Banksy • Choose Your Weapon Print, by kazzazz on Dec 11, 2010 9:01:01 GMT 1, Daz your comments are true but when you increase the price it would damage the market that Banksy has created. It is exciting for people to know they have something they paid £90 for 6 yrs ago and now work £2000+. If it was all about the art then people on selling them would just want the money back that they paid in the first place.....we all know this is not going to happen. Facts are that they are precious pieces of art in huge demand. So even people trying to raise money to buy the latest print will sell for 10x what they paid for the print.
Its unfortunate how the world works and is very hard to change this without ruining the whole buzz. Like the genious who thought about printing more money would solve everything....making the prints more expensive also damages things!

Banksy • Choose Your Weapon Print, by Dave on Dec 11, 2010 9:01:04 GMT 1, Just got back from the queue. Omfg it was hilarious... Someones head got stamped in, 2 other physical assaults and dodgy polish guys as far as the eyes could see. Location switches. Sounds hilarious. This is in no way melodramatic, but after tonight (and expect an influx of the same thoughts at any moment... Pictures on walls have alot and alot and alot of explaining to do, i think people there tonight have lost alot of respect for them and banksy. Utter piss up. Sack the security as well, they were s**te. 2 people for a queue of 250 people. People that were on the surface civilised and happy nicey talking about fairies and banksy times gone by sitting in their awful pop up seats soon turned to wild animals. Slow clap. Very slow clap. Also i get the feeling that after tonight.. You will never see a store banksy release ever again and thats a given i think. More tomorrow..including a certain alternative print. J
First time ever I 100% agree you JBOY it was shocking how different it was from last year.

Its pretty disgraceful to let that happen to peepz waiting in line for. There should be a print released in conjunction with the banksyforum whereby members with 100+ posts get 1st shout on a print.

Banksy • Choose Your Weapon Print, by bullet on Dec 11, 2010 9:08:07 GMT 1, After that, just let the polish flippers have them..theres no point in even going down there anymore as there are to many stinking filthy people about.
I saw someone get crushed and stepped on as well.
My advice would be to never attend a pow event ever again if they are going to treat people like monkeys in a zoo. Its shameful.
Its not even the fact that a ticket never crossed the palm, i gave up caring about that when the feeling of sickness set in at watching everyone.

Banksy • Choose Your Weapon Print, by Standard on Dec 11, 2010 9:12:00 GMT 1, Kazzazz - it wouldn't damage anything. The prints have a market value, this is due to banksy popularity which is pretty much set to grow and grow. For it to grow for the chance of a quick profit is wrong. You make and lose money in art and bansky is a very good investment. If POW put the price up to £1750 or £2k they are not going to be flipped at 5 or 6 times that much. Any increase/decrease will in normal circumstances be gradual. If you are lucky then you but art when artists emerge and make profit as popularity grows.
I know that money is the root of all evil in the art world but the buzz is form enjoying the artwork on your wall - anything else is just a bonus.

I actually feel sorry for you Grafik (not pity...just sorry that you actually put so much legwork in and got fuck all) and sounds like an absolute shambles down there last night.
From you chronological posts it's obvious that your account of what's gone on was accurate.....

same happened with me, I was about 150-160 in the queue at 10.40 last night, by the time pow bloody decided to give out tickets I was at least number 250.
I don't understand why tickets couldn't have been given out much earlier in the night.

i can't do anything about the rich and don't feel i have to but it is nice that pow/banksy make the prints available to other than rich people
there are a lot of people that will/can pay 450 for a print but will not pay 2000 no matter what the resale value is
if you are a fan and buy it to keep it you don't care about the retail value
when i started to buy street art all the money i spend was gone there was no secondary market and i never thought it would be worth something so you had to be sure you liked it and most things i bought back then have no monetary value
i understand that in London everything is 10x as expensive as in most place in the world and 2000 for some wall decoration is no problem but in most places that is a couple a month of rent and if you buy your art to keep it you will have a hard time justifying that
my 2c ;D
cheer up everyone (unless you got screwed in the Q that's a bummer)
pow has always been good fixing their problems I would stay in line and see what happens why is everyone complaining they sell the print to cheap - 450pounds is a lot of money for a print with a an edition of 375 plus some alleged gold and silver versions I hope they can otomi. However £450 is not a lot of money to pay for something that is instantly worth 4 or 5 times that amount. If fans want one then they save just like me & you. Nothing you can do about those that are rich. i can't do anything about the rich and don't feel i have to but it is nice that pow/banksy make the prints available to other than rich people there are a lot of people that will/can pay 450 for a print but will not pay 2000 no matter what the resale value is if you are a fan and buy it to keep it you don't care about the retail value when i started to buy street art all the money i spend was gone there was no secondary market and i never thought it would be worth something so you had to be sure you liked it and most things i bought back then have no monetary value i understand that in London everything is 10x as expensive as in most place in the world and 2000 for some wall decoration is no problem but in most places that is a couple a month of rent and if you buy your art to keep it you will have a hard time justifying that my 2c ;D cheer up everyone (unless you got screwed in the Q that's a bummer)

Banksy • Choose Your Weapon Print, by kazzazz on Dec 11, 2010 9:20:07 GMT 1, Daz I do understand but its a tough thing to change without upsetting the genuine fans who would not be able to pay the £1750. I do think a better system could be set up though....registered members, waiting lists, maybe a lottery draw that means the buyer actually has to buy a £20-50 ticket to enter....this would help eliminate any non interested buyers looking to flip the prints, maybe the money could be given to charity etc...or even the ticket buyers could be sent out a secondary open edition banksy poster etc.
Im not saying this would work either but might be other ideas that would help solve the madness of it all.

Banksy • Choose Your Weapon Print, by onlyz on Dec 11, 2010 9:20:10 GMT 1, Money interest will always play a part. I recently got the Brian Eno box set with Print, fully intending to keep it as I have loads of his stuff and am a 'fan' - but the values on eBay are making me think about selling it on. Framing stuff and putting it on the wall seems to be the thing that stops me from selling it on, if its in a tube its fair game!

Banksy • Choose Your Weapon Print, by grafik on Dec 11, 2010 9:24:12 GMT 1, just spoke to POW Simon in the Q, he appears pretty upset at how things have gone down,
lets just hope I get lucky in the lottery I suppose,
