Banksy • Choose Your Weapon Print, by snausages on Dec 11, 2010 15:56:54 GMT 1, I agree with happymeal and do we really need a page long rant with baseless accusations Raiden?
Everyone keeps saying the way to solve the problem now is for Banksy to release more prints. But if I were Banksy, I tell you this would make me want to release even less prints. If I were him I'd just do street work from now on and screw this. End the madness.
With last years queue being pretty civilized by comparison I'm sure POW didn't expect this kind of chaos. But I bet that's the end of that. If you ask me, the way to make things harder on the flippers and eastern european thugs I've been reading about is random online only bunfight release. Those guys won't be as dedicated online and they won't be able to push their way to the front. It's just too bad all the tossers who didn't get Nola whined so much that POW ended online releases.
Anyway, I'm glad to see all 8 of these have gone to a good home? LMAO offer.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBidsLogin&item=260706500115 I'm not usually one for auction sabotage but sohoartstore, they deserve it

Banksy • Choose Your Weapon Print, by leumasdarnley on Dec 11, 2010 15:56:58 GMT 1, Do people think Banksy is happy with the way this has turned out so far?
Nah and I DO think he cares but if there were 375 prints all lotto people would miss out. All of them online and the guys with "programs" would all get them. Makes no difference what happens here people will be upset. The gig last night could of been handled better but does it warrant a mob with pitch forks I don't think so. We all have an equal chance to win the lotto (besides the fucks with 50 emails)... so be it.

Just gets worse every year. I'm sure they dont really care though. They did let hundreds of people queue out in the freezing cold last year and did the exact same this year.

Banksy • Choose Your Weapon Print, by Brushstrokes 75 on Dec 11, 2010 16:03:13 GMT 1, It reminds me of something that happened in Paris last year. Some online company promised to distribute between 40 000 euros and 100 000 euros in Cash in Paris. You would get an envelopped with some notes in it- could be 10 or 500 euros...
The whole thing turned into a riot with more than 5000 person joining (they finally decided not to give any money).
www.buzzfeed.com/mathieus/free-money-causes-riot-in-paris-8q4
In the end what happened last night in the same pedigree. But jeez, it's just a print in the end of the day. Ok, it's a nice print or a really nice revenue.
But just also proves how saddistic can people be. Don't tell me that people who queued last night didn't know that all this would happen... We're talking about plain cash gift.. of course, muggers and mafia will be part of it!
As JBOY said it from the start. It proves again that POW doesn't really care. If someone cared in some way after so many years of releasing prints, they should take the appropriate measure.
By the way, I precise that the city of Paris have sued the company for the attempted disorder that was created...
But at least nobody died. WHen you see what people are capable of during Black Friday in the US. I'm actually quite impressed that no one has been really hurt or threatened with a gun. Needless to say that the amount at stake are totally different in the 2 situations....

Banksy • Choose Your Weapon Print, by shower on Dec 11, 2010 16:05:57 GMT 1, Well if he has got an ounce of decency he will make sure Grafik does well in the lottery! why, lets not try and paint grafik as some sort of victim here - he has been known in the past to be one of those flippers that this forum so dislikes. Also his racist comments earlier in this thread (which I think have now been deleted), what should go unaccounted for - and perhaps this is his karma.

Banksy • Choose Your Weapon Print, by Wearology on Dec 11, 2010 16:07:49 GMT 1, I agree money has tainted this whole process - but according to the POW website Banksy is donating all his proceeds to charity from this print. I also agree with the forum member who came up with the idea of having POW wait at least 6 months to issue a COA would eliminate a lot of flippers. Remember guys - "If the followers lead the leaders will follow"

Banksy • Choose Your Weapon Print, by Agent Provocateur on Dec 11, 2010 16:08:35 GMT 1, This may be controversial but imo Banksy has been doing releases of 1,000's over the past couple of years. I know they're not screen prints (or signed), but the Don't Panic poster was an authentic Banksy edition, the Monkey Parliament and other Bristol Museum posters were also large Banksy editions.
I suppose what I'm saying is, when you come down to edition's of 1,000's there has to be a breaking point, not signed, mass produced lithographs and open editions. But what they do do is give many more people the opportunity to own an authentic Banksy release.
That said, with his ltd ed screen prints they remain the top dog, small signed runs creating the market for them (which everyone would like but not everyone can get one). Quid pro Status quo!
Not sure if that's bollox, just a little thought on the larger edition conversation!

Banksy • Choose Your Weapon Print, by manty on Dec 11, 2010 16:09:02 GMT 1, It's interesting to keep reading "True Fans" what is the criteria? is it people that have joined the Banksy band wagon in the last few years? I'd say most are not interested in art and couldn't even join a conversation about art unless it is based on Banksy and the POW members alone. blow me. i have a banksy tshirt.
And I have a book ;D

Banksy • Choose Your Weapon Print, by Daniel Silk on Dec 11, 2010 16:10:23 GMT 1,
I just think its better to tell people a time and date, and how its gonna be released nice and simple, so everyone knows whats going on and how its gonna happen. People want a nice Banksy piece to enjoy up on the wall at home, and would maybe rather not have any baggage attached with memories of waiting in the cold for weeks, or sleepless nights waiting and wondering. Or maybe they do? I just think it should be about the Art, and less about the process for trying to get one

You honestly think that would have been any different?
Last night wasnt about how POW released the print - it was about the 150 or so speculative people at Berwick Street, who on mass made that dash across town, who had mates queuing up at POW's offices Thats where the problem imo stems from. It was these collusions/hedging of bets, that caused the problems, and no doubt had the location been Berwick Street, the same issue would have occurred.

Banksy • Choose Your Weapon Print, by AFR1KA on Dec 11, 2010 16:25:42 GMT 1, I am just still stunned that there was no security or no barriers setup from early on.
This is not about fairness its about being negligent towards the safety and welfare of the people POW KNEW would be there.
I personally would never even want this image on my wall after hearing about how this was handled and the complete lack of respect given to the people, whether they are flippers or not, who lined up as well as the Keith Harring Foundation.
Haring was an artist who believed all of his fans should have something from him no matter what there income was. From the official Harring bio: "In April 1986, Haring opened the Pop Shop, a retail store in Soho....The shop received criticism from many in the art world, however Haring remained committed to his desire to make his artwork available to as wide an audience as possible." I personally have no problem with a limited print run, but If POW and Banksy were truly fans of Haring and his vision and not just looking for a catchy picture and quick dollar they would have never released this particular print in such a limited supply.
