Banksy • Rude Copper Print • 2003, by verbalkint on May 12, 2007 16:41:28 GMT 1, A friend of mine has a signed rude copper, he got it at uni when his housemate left to go home early he left the poster on the wall. My mate liked it and has hung on to it having no idea what it is worth. He is not interested in art at all and certainly does not know there is a market for prints.
Problem is that it is creased heavily in several places, has 6 pin holes around it and even blu-tak marks on each corner. Now he is a good mate and im not interested in this print anyway (if i was going to buy one i would get one in good condition) but i wondered if you guys could guesstimate its value. Would you say that condition greatly effects price or not? I just want to tell him what to expect to get for it, the bloke is a bit skint right now and could do with some good news, i just dont want to get his hopes up only to find out its worthless
what do these prints go for in perfect nick and what would this one go for? I know its hard to say, but i would like to hear your opinions

Banksy • Rude Copper Print • 2003, by pw on May 12, 2007 16:54:18 GMT 1, he should get it professionally restored and then sell it on.
are you sure its signed? if so he should try to get provenance. a signed RC is the rarest of all prints. there were only 250 RC prints and I don't think anyone even knows how many were signed but its certainly not many. maybe as few as 10-20. therefore its potentially worth alot of money.
If I had one and it was mint I'd think about selling it at Sothebys...

Its hard to value this print but if it was mint and had provenance I think it could be worth alot more than 10K. maybe as much as some of the lower end canvases. the reason being that there are so few signed RC's and also the fact that it was his first ever print.
Provenance is another big problem for the RC's. they were made before POW existed and no record was kept of the original purchasers (I believe that this is the only print that records were not kept for). Therefore you would have to get a letter of provenance from Laz, and this could be tricky as he doesn't generally do this for prints.

don't be too quick to overlook it verbalkint, could be worth the time and money i think.

Its my second favorite print and with the proper frame job you could cover up those holes and make it good as new.
It should make your friends day when he finds out what he has............lucky bastard ;D

Banksy • Rude Copper Print • 2003, by carl on May 21, 2007 14:54:06 GMT 1, Please let me know what one would expect to pay for an unsigned rude copper. I know it was the first print that pow done but its a very basic one colour print, however saying that I love it but when you see flower thrower, Turf war and other early unsigned pieces going for around £1.5k. I wonder if RC is worth more because it was the first?
Any thoughts?

why don't these idiots put it at £4k BIN or start low and see what the market decides is it's true value? they can still put a reserve on.

Banksy • Rude Copper Print • 2003, by sherlock on May 22, 2007 21:28:14 GMT 1, I agree. So many sellers put such a high starting bid that it scares most off.
I am pretty sure we be seeing even more ridiculous prices in the future after Banksy won his "Greatest Living Britain award". Not I hasten to add for the kudos, more for the coverage. The bandwagon which is already at full speed might go into hyperdrive

evening holmes, 'tis a good point(s). i'm sure a lot of those sellers are the same ones that put their houses up for sale with the most expensive estate agent just to boost their own egos? p***s extentions, nothing more.

Banksy • Rude Copper Print • 2003, by metadaptive on Dec 3, 2006 22:50:35 GMT 1, Hi all,
Am kind of in need of some advice and thought this might be the place to find it.
I'm the proud owner of a Rude Copper print (174) which I've owned since 2002 when I bought it from the now sadly defunct Green Leaf Bookshop in Bristol.
Unfortunately I'm also the not so proud owner of way too much debt and a car that needs insuring. So in short I'm thinking of selling the former to help with the latter.
What I'd really appreciate from you lovely people is any advice you can give me on how/where to sell it (ebay/dealers/whoever) and what, in your opinion it's worth. A print from the same edition sold on ebay the other week for £1850, while a dealer I emailed tried to flog me one for 6 grand - which seemed a little steep to say the least ...
anyway any help or advice you can offer would be much appreciated.
many thanks

hi, welcome to the board, shame you have to sell though, but needs must I guess. You should be looking at a minimum 2k, though prices are a little volatile at the moment. Xmas not usually the best time to sell. Ebay is generally the best place for secondary market prints, it'll certainly generate a lot of interest. Price depending who gets involved between 1.8-2.3k, maybe more.. but in december, doubtful.
Hope that helps..

With the prices at the moment, 1500-2k should be doable, bit of a downturn at the moment, if poss keep it for a few months if not, dont be too disappointed if it dont do too well, 2K for a 50 quid print still aint too bad fella.

Banksy • Rude Copper Print • 2003, by romanywg on Jun 30, 2007 9:34:55 GMT 1, The guy that runs A.M.U.T.I. used to sell Banksy prints from the Potobello road and told me that he was in P.O.W. to pick up some prints when Banksy came in and sprayed on about 20 of them (These must be the ones with the grafitti behind the copper). He was allocated 10 of them which he sold at the time for £100 each! They were quite hard to move at the time for that price and he didn't keep any back at all for himself. He also told me he looks like Banksy which makes sense when you see him and the photos of Bansy floating about.
