Banksy • Barcode Print, by banksman on Aug 6, 2008 22:08:18 GMT 1, I tend to agree with the framing comments (both the one on ebay and banksman's) The ebay frame and mount just don't seem to work with the print Glad to see one framed and on the wall, not sure about the other two on the sofa, I doubt its very comfortable!
The Barcode is above my bed
The Morons & Trolleys are above my sofas

Banksy • Barcode Print, by rosstierney on Aug 7, 2008 16:33:36 GMT 1, the seller has ended the listing & put it back up @ $120,000
"NEWEST UPDATE: This is the third time I've listed this piece and now I intend to keep it going until somebody offers me more than the auction houses self proclaimed "VERY conservative" opening bid valuations or until I submit it for official auction in the next month or so.
To everyone that hit me up in the last few weeks: I'm not trying to be greedy or a dick here folks. Just understand that when I first listed it at $60k I was offered up to $75k by eBay folks. When I listed it at $80k I was offered $100k. When I reached out to the auction houses I got back valuations… well, let’s just say I was blown away. So why in the hell would I take anything less than their opening bid valuations??? Would you??? "

Banksy • Barcode Print, by lee3 on Aug 7, 2008 16:56:16 GMT 1, I've spoken with the seller multiple times and backed away. I wasn't particularly fond of the painting on an angle but was willing to go to $70k initially but then revised it to $65k after some thought and finally just said screw it. He has since contacted an auction house who gave a rather agressive estimate but the seller wants cash so when he did the math, it wasn't working out with what he wanted to net (which WAS $80k). He amatureisly blind copied anyone who had shown interest in the painting the auction house's proposal which didn't do him any favors. I replied to him and said that wasn't the wisest choice and he retorted that he was new to selling (obviously) and was just hoping that I would raise my bid by $5k cash to get it done.
I'm not doubting the authenticity of the piece but this guy is trying to levereage anything he can to sell his painting. He wants cash (presumably imo) to avoid reporting the sale so $80k in cash is prefereable to a $150k (i don't think it would ever hit that # but he did the math just to be sure) sale at auction once buyers and sellers fees are deducted and he pays the appropriate fed/state taxes over his original $250 price/basis. He lives in CA and if you really want this painting I think it can be had for $75k cash. He's come back to me multiple times with stories of 4 different $80k cash bids and I told him to take them, only to be followed up the next day with a note that my offer may be the best since he can drive it to me and not wait for someone to come to him. I've told him good luck and that I'm no longer interested and even corresponded with the auction house who was none too pleased with the sellers approach to broadcast a bid to leverage his own position.
IMO, it's amateur hour with this guy but if you are REALLY interested in the painting (i just couldn't get over the fact that the canvas was at an angle but that is up for each individual to decide) I bet you can get it from him if you offer $75k cash and agree to get it from him in the next week. Good luck and obviously make sure you have it authenticated before turning over your money but the painting does appear legit.

I gotta tell you, if I was genuinely interested in this piece I wouldnt touch it with a 10 foot pole now. Anyone seriously considering the painting is not going to put in a bid because they are going to assume he is just going to keep jacking up the price. This listing is a circus, not an auction.

Banksy • Barcode Print, by RBK on Aug 7, 2008 17:15:58 GMT 1, Lee - Nice update. Does seem like a rookie trying to play in the big leagues. I wonder if the auction house will blackball him for that extremely unprofessional bcc.
Plus his rational that a 1/1 of an ok image being better than a 1/5 of some of his best images (Laugh Now or Flower Thrower) doesn't stick at all with this Banksy collector. The piece does appear legit though.
PS: I would also be pissed if I was Grace. Posting her information is yet another unprofessional move

It's apparent he has dollar symbols in his eyes and his greed will kill any deal he tries to get done, just like it did with lee. What a shame.

Great question and one that I've pondered myself many times. I can see an anti-gloabilization message in there as well as a capitalism is the evolution of survival of the fittest message in there too.
But, I think I like the interpretation that "perplexedhead" wrote elsewhere on this board which is "that capitalism is incapable of restraining its own monstrous nature".

ha ha- that's great. Something tells me that in '01/02 when the image was developed that Banksy was not telephoning a chick (or dude, who am i to judge?) from St. Louis. If the rumor is based in fact, i would presume that 314 is the UK code.

Hmmm... curious.
The numbers in the Leopard Barcode [31454 31762] don't appear to be any sort of UK or mobile number.
You'd need to put an 01 or an 07 in front to make it a real number, and then there would be too many digits in the number.
I thought perhaps they could be two dates/date of births, but of course there is no 31st April 1954.
However, the Shark Barcode [0 95417 04-0-7] would work as a phone number if you put a 1 or 7 where the barcode lines intrude into the number sequence (after the first 0): 07954 170407 or 01954 170407 (Cambridge number)
Who's gonna try them out?? ;-)
Also, just found this Banksy record sleeve of a Sinking Tank, which contains another barcode:
The number is 5 016557 971668 - again, too many digits to be a phone number.
What does it all mean???!

Yeah, but that doesn't leave enough digits to make a real number....
I really like the idea of the 'breaking free from a relationship' theory... maybe the set of 5 digits on the right, beneath the bent bars, represents Banksy in some way - and the set on the left represent the ex-girlfriend?
I'm starting to feel like a conspiracy theorist.
