new JR print out soon. i guess, by Studiocromie on Mar 16, 2011 15:23:51 GMT 1, felt a bit weird too. but trust me, i feel WAY worst when i see them on ebay for 500 euros. Sorry, thats no excuse imo. Im presuming you already make your 40%, so its not like you are missing out. Its not the customers fault idiots cant be bothered to Google and buy them direct, so I dont see why we should pay for it. If these were planned to rise as they sold out I wouldn't care, but it just looks like greed to me
i dont see why you should pay either! luckily, im not selling necessary things. you dont really need any of these things, so you're totally free to decide wheter to buy it or let it go.
now, im not making excuses. from the moment i did it, i did not think i needed to apologize with anybody.
then, and i really dont want it to sound harsh. you making calculations on percentages/missing out/gaining/greed. that closes the conversation for me. for good. this kind of investigations dont really make me happy
about ebay, there were two for 500 for sale a month ago. that really pissed me off.

Sorry to mention 'greed', but you see it with flippers and I see it with gallerys hiking prices....imo both of us are right to a certain degree.
Im just gutted as the JR I thought id be able to afford has now jumped another 33%

Agreed.
I don't see what the fuss is all about. Galleries are always selling prints under value and like Angelo said, you don't need these things.

If they didnt sell out at 300 euros, there is a lot less of a chance of them selling out at 400. Saying that i was going to pull the trigger at 300 euros, its only when i went to check out, i saw the price increase.
I recall when iconoclast did the same thing, certain members on here ripped christian a new bumhole.
Oh to live in a world of short memories

new JR print out soon. i guess, by Studiocromie on Mar 16, 2011 17:19:32 GMT 1, you see?
if it doesnt sell out, i'm happier! it means flipper will have hard times selling em on the bay cause they'll still be available on our website
mission accomplished
the selling out factor is a weird distortion of the whole story. and is greatly enriched by this forum
i've seen shitty prints sell out in seconds. to me, it's better when it does not sell out so people that really wants it can buy it whitouth rush. and yes, if they really do want it, 100 euros difference wont be a big deal

nice one i'm just reading a book, it's called "the factory of false", by Vladimiro Giacchรจ
it's about how medias change the truth, and the many different methods they use.
a few minutes ago, i mean, just a few minutes ago, i was reading about this method that tv news and magazines have to tell their own truth quoting just a little fragment of the story, putting it out of its context.
the book gives examples on how, in pacific demostrations and protests, medias ONLY talk about that little fragment of ten/fifteen idiots that use violence or burn flags or whatever so that the whole demostration loose its power and meaning. the book also refer to some talks from some politicians from wich tv news, cut their favourite sentence to make their own narrative
here you go. you took one sentence from its context, and quoted it by itself, giving it the very specific meaning you, and only you, wanted to give.
as much as i'm sick of this, i have to say i find it interesting too. as i've never been stupid enough to get into these kind of "conversations" (that's how you called it) on the forums. i guess i wont now

way harder then if the print was sold out. those two 500pounds on the bay disappeared last month and nobody bought. i could make examples with JR first print too, the two eyes one. but it's so boring. i guess we all said what we had to say.
peace

new JR print out soon. i guess, by lifeonwalls on Mar 16, 2011 17:44:04 GMT 1, I just thinking trying to control the secondary market, regardless of how it's done, is a fleeting task.
Someone could still create an eBay auction without even having the print in hand. If it sells on eBay for more, then they buy the print from you directly and ship it to the eBay buyer when it's rec'd.
You'll go crazy if you try to control it all.

The last release on social animals has sold 60 copies (from an edition of 500) and the February 2010 release has sold about 40 from the edition of 180.

new JR print out soon. i guess, by Gentle Mental on Mar 16, 2011 18:10:47 GMT 1, i think POW should learn a thing or two from Studiocromie - price it to market -
sell signed banksys at 2000 pounds - that is the market value.
Selling them at "charitable" prices feels very futile and destructive. If POW wants to do good - take the money earned to do good - that would be more efficient and honest.
these are not things you need. buy only if you can afford and want to.
Bravo Studiocromie!

You should read manufacturing consent if you want to learn about how the media works. One of my all time favorite books.

new JR print out soon. i guess, by ratboy on Mar 17, 2011 19:04:55 GMT 1, Angelo, I'm not sure if you've seen it before but you should check out Charlie Brooker's Newswipe programmes - there was some spot on stuff about news reporting on there.
Sure you can find it on youtube or icefilm.
And good on you for all the work you do. In my opinion the stuff that remains available on your site is often far more exciting and interesting than that which sells out on other sites, and like you say it then eventually sells to people who really want it for their walls.
I hope you don't get detered from some of the negative comments, they're not the beliefs of everyone.

new JR print out soon. i guess, by bsimkin on Mar 18, 2011 14:44:35 GMT 1, Ebay shouldnt be the reasons - by upping the price, that just means the next one to sell on ebay will sell for more. Its all relative. If they didnt sell out at 300 euros, there is a lot less of a chance of them selling out at 400. Saying that i was going to pull the trigger at 300 euros, its only when i went to check out, i saw the price increase.
I, too, am disappointed. Was considering this print at its listed price of 300 euro. Seems a bit opportunistic and what not to increase to 400. Now out of my price range and an unlikely purchase. My guess is the new print they are releasing is going to be 400+ and studiocromie doesn't want their older edition taking away from sales of higher priced new print. Just an opinion. Sad, nonetheless. But, hey, it's their prerogative. I'll just have to get lucky elsewhere when my tax refund comes in.

new JR print out soon. i guess, by Studiocromie on Mar 18, 2011 15:27:32 GMT 1, no offense bsimkin
but hey, it's crazy to notice how many people have been considering this print for more then one full year. i mean, how unlucky is that right when everybody was almost ready to buy it, the price got higher! right in that very exact moment!
we should also consider the other way around here i guess
wich is:
now that JR prices got higher and new prints are obviously going to cost more, a lot of people was finally considering to get the old one. wich (fuck!) is merely, 100%, opportunistic. it does not have anything to do with actually liking the print or wanting it on the wall.
i'll tell you whats it about : "i'd better get this soon" and that's just about the value! nothing else. it's just 'cause it would have looked cheaper now that everything else from JR is more expehensive.
and what's cool to me is that no, its not cheaper now. and if people wants it because of its value, or potential value in the future, they have to do the same bet they've been waiting to do for one year. only this time it's going to cost more. i see it as part of the game.
im sad too that it's out of your price range now, i mean it. and im not being sarcastic
it all makes so much sense though : we are all opportunists
