new JR print out soon. i guess, by Happy Shopper on Mar 18, 2011 15:55:19 GMT 1, Angelo's spot on. Nailed it exactly. JR's prices have gone up since these were originally on offer, so prices have been raised accordingly. Totally normal for any artist or gallery.
(Kicking myself I didn't pick one of them up when they were 300 Euro, but that's life!)

new JR print out soon. i guess, by Studiocromie on Mar 18, 2011 15:57:55 GMT 1, why horrible?
im just using my right to answer some of these comments. and if my english comprehension is good enough (wich i doubt anyway), i dont even see any "questioning" here, i see much more judging towards this price hike to be honest
if it was questioning. i guess i've given enough answers.
the price got higher after a conversation with the artist. all his prints have had a recent price hike. yes, it pissed me off to see flippers buying the print to sell it for a higher price. i guess its pretty undestandable.
and im not saying everybody wants to make money from prints. dont be shocked, please, im just talking about some very frequent and evident dynamics wich we should all know already.
plus, if im told what i've done is opportunistic, i'll talk about opportunism on the other side too
stay positive

new JR print out soon. i guess, by Brushstrokes 75 on Mar 18, 2011 16:11:51 GMT 1, Everyone got their point here. It's true that it can be a little bit inconvenient for people that wanted to buy the print and were raising money towards it.
But you also have to understand Angelo. The print is still relatively cheap if you consider other JR releases.
I have no idea but I can imagine that there is also some pressure from JR to raise the price in accordance with his new status and new publicity. I imagine that the pricing should be more uniform (and the standard deviation of the pricing should be lowered).
I'm as well kicking myself because I bagged the print few months ago and got the order confirmation but forgot to pay up. (maybe some improvement to be done on th payment procedure via the website Angelo?)
So need to talk crap here, most of Studiocromie pieces are cheaply priced compared to other galleries so give the guy a break!

new JR print out soon. i guess, by bsimkin on Mar 18, 2011 16:22:18 GMT 1, no offense bsimkin but hey, it's crazy to notice how many people have been considering this print for more then one full year. i mean, how unlucky is that right when everybody was almost ready to buy it, the price got higher! right in that very exact moment! we should also consider the other way around here i guess wich is: now that JR prices got higher and new prints are obviously going to cost more, a lot of people was finally considering to get the old one. wich (f**k!) is merely, 100%, opportunistic. it does not have anything to do with actually liking the print or wanting it on the wall. i'll tell you whats it about : "i'd better get this soon" and that's just about the value! nothing else. it's just 'cause it would have looked cheaper now that everything else from JR is more expehensive. and what's cool to me is that no, its not cheaper now. and if people wants it because of its value, or potential value in the future, they have to do the same bet they've been waiting to do for one year. only this time it's going to cost more. i see it as part of the game. im sad too that it's out of your price range now, i mean it. and im not being sarcastic it all makes so much sense though : we are all opportunists
Hey, I don't disagree one bit. demand will always be the deciding factor and we all did have the opportunity to purchase at its previous price. It's a game of value. Personally and potentially. I prefer the personal aspect about it, but who can really ignore the forward looking aspect. I am happy with the collection I have been able to afford in the short time I've been collecting. I've obviously have been waiting for the right time financially to start buying again (last piece I bought was back in May of last year).
I think from a release perspective, I believe in a constant edition selling price. I think back to all those Banksy prints sitting up on POW end of 05/ beginning of 06. Ones I kick myself for not buying obviously (I did nab one thanks to a less crowded market), but also for the fact that they were what they were. No increase based on his rising notoriety. In fact, I think those lower prices helped POW and him clear out their inventory (easy point of entry) and increase future demand for other prints that would follow and sell out in a matter of minutes.
I wish the best for JR and his career. It looks like a lot more people are going to be hearing about this guy in the coming year now that his TED wish is under way. He deserves it. And maybe down the road I'll be able to snag one to hang proudly on my wall. I'm fine with my 28mm book

new JR print out soon. i guess, by curiousgeorge on Mar 18, 2011 17:32:58 GMT 1, For what it's worth, I've always found Angelo very cool. I placed an order way back and then changed my mind, he was totally cool about it and behaved like a gentleman about it all
Re:Price points(not aimed at anyone in particular) I would like see lots of Artists producing smaller works at cheaper prices, chances are once framed they showcase the Art to friends/family/guests who more often than not will show an interest and perhaps want to buy something
Many friends take an interest in the stuff i own and many have gone on to start buying Art, though all at cheaper price points
Food for thought???

new JR print out soon. i guess, by Deleted on Mar 18, 2011 17:37:55 GMT 1, Don't see the issue here really, Angelo stated quite clearly in his first post that the artist had requested a price increase, this has been across the board from relatively cheap entry level prints to 75k originals. Plus, the prints from Studiocrombie, including the new ones, are still cheaper and with a smaller edition size than anywhere else on the planet. A 15 edition at 650 Euro, doubt we'll be seeing that ever again.

new JR print out soon. i guess, by Studiocromie on Mar 18, 2011 18:21:49 GMT 1, Wow. forums are how you push your products and made you what you are. People art from you because its you who sells a specific print. I find your comments horrible towards the people using their right to question a price hike. Of course we're all greedy opportunists looking to make money from you now.....
shocking comments angeloI agree, horrific comments that shows a total disdain for his audience. The comments are as reactionary as his pricing mechanism. I understand that prices can go up as the artist becomes more established but there's more going on here than that. Calls his audience opportunistic while he engages in very opportunistic things himself. Need to check that attitude at the door. Even if that's what you think. You'd have been better off just letting those comments go. I have been in the market for a JR og and print and this pretty much seals the deal that I won't be dealing with Chromie. Although to be honest was more likely I was buying from somewhere else anyway.
wooooooooow man, i wonder where all this acidity comes from, now we're talking! it never felt so good to loose a potential client

new JR print out soon. i guess, by thehighlife on Mar 18, 2011 18:29:40 GMT 1, you see? if it doesnt sell out, i'm happier! it means flipper will have hard times selling em on the bay cause they'll still be available on our website mission accomplished the selling out factor is a weird distortion of the whole story. and is greatly enriched by this forum i've seen s**tty prints sell out in seconds. to me, it's better when it does not sell out so people that really wants it can buy it whitouth rush. and yes, if they really do want it, 100 euros difference wont be a big deal
why does ebay have to dictate how you set your prices? love when galleries use ebay as a pricing mechanism saying they are stopping the flippers
it makes you mad so you up the price for the regular joe?
just curious is all as why ebay has anything to do with setting your price point! Does JR check the listings on ebay?
Nice print and good luck

new JR print out soon. i guess, by jakek on Mar 18, 2011 19:25:26 GMT 1, JR produces some great work on the street, and was doing this well before he started doing prints.
His success (both critical and and in auctions) and recognition (the TED award) are fully deserved and as a result he really is making his mark in the art world. This means more and more people are wanting to buy his work (for enjoyment and investment) and the messy matter of money gets involved.
I think JR has done well to enable fans to buy his work as all price points. Just look at the Favela or Ladj Ly prints - there was an unlimited edition, and various signed editions - if you wanted to buy the print for just the image you could pick it up for a few quid, if you wanted a signed or limited version you could go to Laz or Social-Animals.
Angelo has been working with JR for years, and the prints at studiocromie have always been good value - and i get the impression this is because both angelo and the artists have done this for the good of collectors.
But because they've been cheap compared to other prints I think people have bought them spefically to sell on ebay, which I can imagine must be really frustrating for both the artist and gallery who had made sure that they were as reasonable as possible in the first place.
I remember when studiocromie released their last JR print they had loads of people buying it thinking it would sell out and they could then flip it on ebay, and then when it didn't sell out they wanted their money back rather than the print (correct me if i'm wrong Angelo). Again this must be seriously frustrating - to release a print for fans and collectors and to be messed around by speculators.
I've dealt with studiocromie for years and have always found that angelo has bent over backwards to help - whether it's an order for a book or an original piece.
Furthermore he's done a great job producing great prints by great artists at prices below what other galleries sell their work for (jr, vhils, blu etc are all represented by laz and must be under great pressure to keep their prices inline with the Laz asking prices).
And Fame festival must be one of the worldwide highlights of the street art year.
It looks like Angelo has lost a few potential punters but I fully understand why he's said what he has and I look forward to buying from him again.

new JR print out soon. i guess, by mmmike on Mar 18, 2011 19:50:03 GMT 1, Studiocromie rocks!
I bet the people complaining about Angelo's comments are the same people who complain when galleries but POA. Angelo has been completely open and honest. That's all you can ask.
He is not your bank. Do you expect him to sit on the prints until you come up with the money? Studiocromie is a business, they have inventory costs and they have a responsibility to the artists. I'm sure there are prints that will never sell that he has to eat the cost.
If he wants to raise prices to cover the costs of holding the inventory or just wants to raise costs because he thinks he can make more money that way, that is what he should do.
He is still offering great products that are relatively cheap. Sorry some people missed out. But that is life.
If you are so against raising prices let me know when you are selling any Banksy prints. I'll buy them from you at the initial issue price.

new JR print out soon. i guess, by manty on Mar 18, 2011 20:31:04 GMT 1, Its great to hear from Angelo relating to the price change.
The point that seems to come across to me is that its not so much about how much money it is, profits being made etc etc, seems to be more about being able to price right, so they are not all sold out in a bun fight, and all flipped on ebay, forums etc so that the guys that really want them to look at on the wall wont have to pay an extra to a ticket tout (flipper).
Great to be able to see a print you really want, and can take the time to purchase, save a few more ยฃ to get if you cant afford it at the time.
Fuck me I forgot half way through posting this what my point was :-)

new JR print out soon. i guess, by dutchfella on Mar 18, 2011 21:17:59 GMT 1, Don't really see all the negativity here, surely the gallery can price as they like, its not a massive hike
After Hold Up and Eyes, this was my favourite print, was thinking about buying it for a while, just wanted to wait to get a few things framed first. Maybe an idea would have been to send an email out to the mailing list saying the price would increase in 2 days, fully pay up otherwise pay the higher price later, I'd definately have bought it then.
On another note, I'd quite like to see a more cost friendly print to cater to all those that cant afford his ยฃ600+ pieces, maybe an edition of 500 at ยฃ150. Although I'm not a huge fan of Fairey I do like his idea of getting his art into the hands of as many people as possible at an affordable price

new JR print out soon. i guess, by Studiocromie on Mar 18, 2011 21:36:59 GMT 1, why does ebay have to dictate how you set your prices? love when galleries use ebay as a pricing mechanism saying they are stopping the flippers it makes you mad so you up the price for the regular joe? just curious is all as why ebay has anything to do with setting your price point! Does JR check the listings on ebay? Nice print and good luck Not angry and I wish you great success! Just was wondering if you could please use my previous question.
i dont use ebay to make prices. i dont even check it myself. i just had a friend mailing me some crazy flipping examples of jr prints and yes, it pissed me off
anyway, ebay or not, a very big amount of customers that bought that print are going to try and flip it. when i make a print at the studio i surely dont do it to see it wasted for some quick profit of some smartass few days after i release it.
i just thought that most of the people that wanted the print alredy got it and whoever was buying it now, was probably doing it to ride the wave of jr's latest success, thinking about a possible investiment for a really really near future
after i put the price higher. trust me, things have changed. and it made me way happier
im definitely not going to change my mind after two fake profiles on this thread made this mess especially because all the s**t they've raised melted with the very positive comments of other users that have been actually dealing with me in the past
so, to close this whole thing, i'm happy, and i know the new prints are awesome
thanks to you all and have a very nice weekend, including your beautiful self cornholio

new JR print out soon. i guess, by manty on Mar 18, 2011 22:22:29 GMT 1, hmmm, two fake profiles? what does that mean anyway? I'm very real. I in fact opened an account on this forum primarily because it just so happens I am in the market to purchase something by JR. It's no coincidence and no 'fakery.' I can assure you I had no negative thought about you or studio chromie at all until I read this thread. The only reason I think poorly of you is because of what you said and how you act. You exemplify the worst in this scene, your as bad as your customers that make you so angry. I can assure you I will be spending my money elsewhere and would do so even if I preferred your inventory.
I dont quite understand your reasoning behind your comment saying he is exemplifying the worst in this scene, he is being open and honest. I find it quite refreshing in this so called scene
I dont think he will be too bothered if you dont spend your money with him, if in fact bothered at all, which says a lot to me, and all of it good

new JR print out soon. i guess, by Brushstrokes 75 on Mar 18, 2011 22:44:03 GMT 1, Are people really serious?
Passing the price raise. I find it quite refreshing that Angelo tries to explain to people the reason why the price rose.
He shouldn't have any explanation to give. I don't here many people criticize LAZ when they rise their prices (they even rise the prices when they are a few left, for example the Yeo Catherine & Pepper ). The prices of the Insect Blue Dunce Boy went from ยฃ350 to ยฃ500.....
That should be actually normal that once a print even from source has been on the market a while the galleries (who also to answer to artists) adjust their prices. I know that it's often goes in only way (usually up) but there's nothing wrong with that. People sometimes forget that those galleries as well have expenses and they are running a business.
Angelo really hasn't said anything wrong but defend himself.. I've seen galleries being way more disdainful than that!

new JR print out soon. i guess, by twist65 on Mar 18, 2011 22:59:02 GMT 1, yeah this thread has got very sad and pathetic. I've never bought from Angelo but as a regular reader of the forum its clear he's passionate, highly skilled and and a great guy to deal with. I don't own any JR, would like to but i'm not buying prints at the moment and accept that when the time comes, i'll be paying more than current prices for the JR print I would like. This is life.
If Angelo went against a direct request from JR to up his prices, how many JR prints do you think Studiocromie would be producing in the future..? I personally think that JR is trying to get too expensive too quick, but its his right as an artist to price himself that way, and you can't argue that he doesn't put the profits to extremely good use.
If you're looking for a quick flip then hard lines, MBW has plenty of stuff for you. If you really want a JR for your walls, then there really is plenty out there, and if you have to wait a bit longer then it just adds to the satisfaction when its finally hanging in your collection.

new JR print out soon. i guess, by Coach on Mar 18, 2011 23:08:40 GMT 1, Woah. Angelo has been a massive contributor to the scene (for want of a better word). One only has to look at his work with the festival. As artists work becomes more popular, it goes up in price. Many galleries put up the price of a print several times in quick sucsession as the print sells out. In all my dealings with Angelo he has been nothing other than a gent, passionate about what he does. Definately one of the good guys imo. And no one is forcing anyone to buy anything - dont want to pay the price, then dont. And for what it's worth, I wont be buying one of these JR's - I had hoped for a larger cheaper edition, that I could afford. But that didnt happen, and that is totally up to JR and Angelo - I can have no complaint. Let it rest.

new JR print out soon. i guess, by Deleted on Mar 19, 2011 2:27:48 GMT 1, I agree with Coach here. Angelo is one of the good guys. His work over the years in putting together the best artists in the world for Fame speaks for itself.
He has consistently produced and released quality artwork which, were they released by the likes of POW, would have been snapped up in seconds. What he does with his business is just that, HIS BUSINESS.
For my part I was biding my time while JR was still under the radar for a chance to buy his Self Portrait print which I have coveted since its release. Unfortunately the time has now passed and I cant afford artwork anymore.
His exhibition at Laz in 2008 moved me very deeply and I became a huge admirer. I shall content myself with his books which represent his work in the best possible way.
I'll leave investment and accumulation of art to the newbies and people who have fucked this 'scene' out of all recognition.

new JR print out soon. i guess, by Simococo on Mar 19, 2011 17:00:22 GMT 1, Angelo has given a massive amount to this movement, and the Fame festival in a short period of time has become a truly epic event. Studiocromie has produced some great and affordable prints from a diverse group of artists, but JR is a major player now and so that comes at a price. I still think the prices are fair when you look at the prices charged for Nick Walker, Adam Neate, Blek and Dface prints....
