series number crossed out, what is the meaning?, by bamspam on Apr 18, 2011 17:48:07 GMT 1, hi, i was interested in buying a signed & numbered Jamie Reid. 1 I saw had the sig & icon in pencil there ok, but where the series number ( XX/150 ) should be there is a red inked X above the pencilled "/150". Is this likely to be a test print that was rejected due to errors? thanks-Bamster

series number crossed out, what is the meaning?, by Sacked... on Apr 18, 2011 19:31:00 GMT 1, A while back Jamies gallery (The Aquarium) ,was closing down and they were selling off rejects, test prints and editions etc they had left over from the many prints and 'pop' editions.these were much cheaper than the original print editions.Jamie would have signed them and the gallery would have numbered them.I would imagine that they kept some of the edition over in case of problems with transport ,ie : rips and creases in the paper ,so they could then just send out another with the same number of the print you'd returned. So, as not to comprimise the edition of 150 ,they would put a red cross alongside the edition number to show this.Hope this helps.
