Now don't get me wrong I am a big lover of Banksy, Micallef, Neate and a few others, but call this art? It looks like someone has just knocked their cuppa coffee over their morning newspaper and smudged something that looks like a helicopter. Each to their own, but not my cuppa tea (get it??) ha ha ;-)

fun10ver, careful with that coffee, there's a Banksy in that very narrow room with mirror walls ;D it looks like a really odd space to put it.

I know it's not street art but I've always appreciated people sharing their other prints they love so I thought I'd do the same. It's called "Kurt Cobains Greenhouse"

Top bloke, came over to my house with it in his folio of prints to save rolling it. Well chuffed with it! Think there's a print edition of it ready to be sold at StellaDore when its up and running, and a few new ones coming from him soon.

Show everyone your latest Art Purchase?, by themightyreds on Oct 15, 2007 14:12:22 GMT 1, I think that maybe the images i posted above are a bit misleading... the prints are not float mounted in them, it is just the light from directly overhead casting shadows in the pictures that makes them look that way. The frames are off-the-shelf jobs from habitat (80x60 and about ยฃ30 each) that sandwich the prints between two sheets of glass and have no backboard in them so you can see through the frame and onto the wall behind. I can imaging a few people will be thinking that its a massive no-no to let the prints touch the glass... was thinking about that too but no-one i have asked (framers, print houses, artists) can definitively say that in the short term (2-5 years) it is in any way harmful so i thought i'd rather get them hung in some cheap-ish frames to enjoy them until i can save up for a pro-framing job. I remember reading on here somewhere that another forum member (might be CBL) used some spacers with one of these frames to keep the printed face of the print off of the glass... if anyone can remember who and could let me know i'd really like to ask them how to go about it.

i have used one of these in the past, did my print no harm in the 6 or so months it was in there. its not possible to space it and keep the print off the glass without it showing.
They look great

Show everyone your latest Art Purchase?, by themightyreds on Oct 15, 2007 15:44:28 GMT 1, Cheers Curley. Saw in a framers at the weekend a 2mm white spacer but don't know if the frame would accommodate it... And like you said, it will probably show too.
When i have funds i'm going to try and get the frame replicated with glass both sides and some space between. I'd better start saving!

Yes I was talking about spacers in habitat frames but not this style, which as curley says wouldn't get away with it. Although like Curley everything will most likely be fine in those frames, I do feel duty bound to say prints touching the glass can cause problems, they can become stuck to the glass and rip away on removal, this has happened to a couple of my photographs that I've put in frames touching the glass, it didn't matter to me as reprinting the photo's only costs a few pence, but for prints worth hundreds of ยฃยฃยฃ I'd take care.

He he I was going to ask if these were framed between glass rather than float mounted. The last picture kinda hints at it. It's a very very nice way to hang them. I was looking at the same frames on Sunday. I'm even more tempted seeing how good they look on the blek and cept, particularly the blek which I have too.

Show everyone your latest Art Purchase?, by themightyreds on Oct 15, 2007 16:22:26 GMT 1, Only tip i have when buying these frames is to be extremely thorough when checking them for damage as the white finish does seem to chip/mark very easily - took me 4 orders at 2 different stores before i could find 2 that were not damaged...!
Also, get them packed well in the store before leaving... all to easy to knock an edge getting them out of the car boot!
