Who is the second biggest artist in the scene, by acaipride on Sept 28, 2020 19:40:32 GMT 1, #2 is KAWS, Murakami or Fairey. Personally, I'd probably go with KAWS as he has the institutional support and is apolitical. Murakami's financial troubles will have him focused on the short-term, and while I love Fairey and own some of his stuff, his political stance probably turns off some high net-worth collectors. Invader is another interesting choice, and he'd round out top 5 for me, but not #2.
I wouldn't consider kaws, as he has no where the grasp ,reach and influence as Fairey or Banksy...the street cred, no where near the latter.

fairey losing ground after his buttigieg endorsement. hard to take him seriously now.
i don't consider murakami or kaws street artists. they haven't done street art for decades, from what i can tell.

From a global perspective, KAWS is bigger than Fairey. And god I hate to use instagram to make a point, but KAWS is 3.1 million vs obey at 1.3. Fairey is too US-centric.

And to the question about new talents to emerge since the original thread, I personally would rank Vhils as one of the best of the “newer” generation. He organizes festivals (liminente), supports a local studio (underdogs), prints sell out in a flash, has a street style that is unique and instantly recognizable, has a solid crew, etc.

I think Space Invader probably put up some 4,000-5,000 pieces over his career. About 70-80 per invasion give or take.
Counting all pasters and stencils, and not just murals, I would not be surprised Shep was at 20,000-30,000.
Banksy is probably the less prolific. I'd say conservatively 3,000-4,000.
But I'd be happy to be corrected, as we do not have a single street art common reference.
