Watched a bit of that TV programme about the London underground the other day, and spent most of it picking out TOX tags on the trains.

Who is the second biggest artist in the scene, by Happy Shopper on Nov 24, 2009 18:55:18 GMT 1, I think Fairey is the only artist to even come close to Banksy... and could even be considered more important in some ways.
But there seems to be very few "Street Artists" that I rate much these days! Banksy and Fairey (obviously) Faile, Blu, Sam 3, Conor Harrington, Bast, Eelus, Sick Boy, Jeff Soto, Miss Van
Most others are fighting a losing battle, imitating Banksy IMO

IMO, 99.999% of artists will be lucky to end up as footnotes in future art history books. Fairey has already locked up at least a paragraph. Banksy is currently somewhere in between with potential for further elaboration.

Depends where you live to an extent, Fairey is a nobody to the majority of people in the UK where as Banksy is a household name over here these days.
Also, if Banksy and Fairey both had a show starting on the same day (in the UK, US or anyother country), I'd wager a very large pile of cash that the queues for the Banksy show would be bigger. Although that could be nothing to do with who is the 'biggest', but just because Banksy creates the more interesting, varied and dynamic art.
Just re-read my post and it sounds a bit "my dad is bigger than your dad", but hope you catch my drift.

Who is the second biggest artist in the scene, by jimbob68 on Nov 27, 2009 21:16:01 GMT 1, i would have to agree with Pedro MAtos. for me its Micallef but i don't think he will be there alone. FAile and Fairey have a great body of work and swoon also is in some major international collections. these league tables are like football. lots of ups and downs!!! These things are always subjected to changes of fashion etc etc. i think banksy and these others will always be there but in the future i would say there will be good held reputations for harrington, denning , walker, blek and others we might not know of yet!!!!

Who is the second biggest artist in the scene, by artstylee on Nov 28, 2009 7:28:55 GMT 1, I agree that Shep &Kaws are up there right after Banksy. But banksy holds the crown over them 2 for sure.
For sure the 3 above are the top dogs on this scene -
while koons and hirst are the top 2 artists overall $ wise.
The artists that excite me the most lately are Judith Supine - David Choe - Jose Parla - and Kindey Wiley. Supine cuz his stuff is simply great and (growin up I loved(& assumed everybody loved) neon signs- lightbrite - and any glowworm -glowstick - glowing sticker) so I love supine because it's always some extremely bright neon colors on black. with bugged out imagery in the color treated collages - they hit really hard. just great. (come to think of it I actually love paul insect's stuff for similar reasons)
Dave Choe becasue it's the Most rhythm, energy, and best quick work I've seen come from an artist in a while. Most athletic/aggressive artist I've seen , it's Safe to say he "Attacks" canvases/walls while other artist just paint. His stuff has really evolved and matured in the last year. last 2 prints Jimmy and Death Blossom are all time. wonder what he's up to next. after laz grifters show.
Jose Parla for the energy, rhythm, evolved layering techniques etc. stuff is getting better and better too. also respect asking prices alot too.
Kindey Wiley for weaving realistic character illustrations & photos through intricate background wallpaper patterns. The background colors/shapes interact with foreground image/characters more than I've ever seen in any artists work. Love it - can't afford it.
Love Neate for being great - and giving out 1000 pieces of art in one night. excellent.
Blu, JR, & Os Gemeos are killing it the hardest on the street murals from what I've seen online. But maybee because those are always big studio/gallery/museum projects and they get the most coverage online.
Honorable mention - David Ellis, Will Barras, Barry McGee, Nick Walker, James Jean, matt small, swoon, dalek. also Aurel Schmidt's drawings are jaw dropping.

Good post. Agree with you on a lot...in fact probably agree with you on all. I'd add Blek Le Rat for an honorable mention though.
Also I'd add Frost and Delta.
But I find it hard to disagree with your taste, which is basically exactly the same as mine.

Who is the second biggest artist in the scene, by snausages on Nov 28, 2009 18:23:53 GMT 1, This is really a ridiculous question and I can't imagine any other genre being so obsessed about this kind of thing to be honest. And most of the responses here are so insular in terms of thought.
Plus it all really depends on how you're judging it anyway. Who will be the most famous in the scene, outside the scene, who will be the "biggest," (whatever that means) who will have the largest output, who will be the "most important" in pop culture terms, who will be the most important in the "urban" world, who will be the "most important" in art historical terms, who really cares.
