Banksy - Individual or Consortium?, by kjzimm on Dec 4, 2009 5:19:06 GMT 1, ...and why?
Okay, I've read the discussions about Monkey Parliment and some of the other pieces. I also know about his mates helping out as runners, lookouts or whatever, but I'm wondering if this organization has a hierarchy.
Also, what kind of compensation structure would exist? Warhol had the 'factory'. He probably never saw many works issued under his name though he conceived the works and signed some editions. Plus those interns were paid little if anything. But, they didn't have a secret
What do you think is going on here with B's organization? Are his mates and cohorts suddenly enjoying a lifestyle above their perceived means? How is the silence kept? Do any of you know someone working for Banksy? Does anyone think they know someone?
I'm amazed by their proficiency and secrecy! I like it!
Any thoughts?

Banksy - Individual or Consortium?, by Grubster on Dec 4, 2009 16:49:10 GMT 1, it says something when an artist takes 6 months out to help their mate banksy do a show and not take any credit for it themselves. he has helpers as well... some photos were posted on flickr a while back but were swiftly removed. not before I copied the lot though.
link it up mookie.. send pm please

Banksy - Individual or Consortium?, by mookie on Dec 4, 2009 18:13:35 GMT 1, I'm an idiot for posting that comment and now I can't get it to go away. It was really early in the morning. I've had a billion pm's and can't reply to everyone to apologise and say I can't send on the pictures to you all as I don't know who most of you are! They only show pieces being worked on from the last few years and don't include pictures of banksy himself. They are not as interesting as you might think.
Anyway back to the thread... I think banksy has the main ideas but he can't execute them all without some help.

Banksy - Individual or Consortium?, by Deleted on Dec 4, 2009 20:23:00 GMT 1, mookie deleted his post I guess?
I can remember someone spotted the big rat for the NY show being painted. That was done by two people, if I remember right. Not sure if I can find this part of the thread, but it was really a day or two before the opening of the NY show.
BTW, interesting thread. Don't have any real ideas about it, and it has been discussed on here before (remember someone was bashed for saying Nick Walker was on mr. B's team)...

Banksy - Individual or Consortium?, by Deleted on Dec 4, 2009 23:33:47 GMT 1, wow! I never saw that colossalmedia site, and I see why Banksy (or he and his crew) choose for that company. They did some class artwork!
maybe a little change to the subject: but when we would assume that Banksy has his team to support him, would that be a good thing? Would it be wrong in any way? Can we make sure that the artwork on his site is done by the man himself?

Why do you think that annoys me? Just because I like my own approach doesn't mean that them that employ others Annoy me on the country LOVE EM it means more for them that are like me ;D You get twice the warmth when you chop your own wood

I'm amazed by the ideas as I suppose all of us are. I'm not sure I could oversee the execution as well as he does. I try at art, but I am so meticulous I could never have a friend's hand do my work. Hell, I can barely let myself do it!

Not a reporter at all. I thought I sounded like one while writing the post. My mom was an artist in San Francisco in the '60s. I try and I'm really critical on myself. I love art. Think Warhol paved the road Banksy enjoys. My mom thought he was a hack, a smart hack, but a hack regardless. I saw him as breaking the mold--an artist! Banksy is that to me. He will last just the same. I can't wait to get my hands on one of his works.
My questions are based on my amazement at his quality, secrecy and his relative longevity. F'ing amazing!

Banksy - Individual or Consortium?, by kjzimm on Dec 5, 2009 4:26:45 GMT 1, BTW, I don't care WHO he is--I'm interested in HOW he executes. I have a stencil rat painting the numbers of my house on the curb. My kids love it. The wife thinks I'm crazy.

I image Banks has enough chopped wood to re-stock the Pacific Northwest by this time so I don't see if being a concern...

Banksy - Individual or Consortium?, by junta on Dec 7, 2009 3:39:40 GMT 1, Never knew there were two versions of the girl with the balloons put up. If that's not some elaborate hoax (and I don't see why anyone would bother) then its the clearest shot I've ever seen of the man at work... thanks for that!

Banksy - Individual or Consortium?, by ramo on Dec 7, 2009 14:58:46 GMT 1, I'm pretty sure he is a single artist who works together with some helpers or a team.
I can remember circa a year ago there was a thread here showing three or four different pictures of Mr.B. That one in Jamaica, one @ a skateboard ramp, one holding his pixeled picture (from "Wall and piece") and another one showed him laughting from the site. The thread was removed fast. But who knows if these were real... ;-) And, no I can not send these pictures :-)
