Sepia Morons hits ยฃ3500, by dave313perry on Jun 18, 2007 22:45:38 GMT 1, yeah i think it might have levelled off around 3.5k > 4K for a few months atleast.
I was thinking the other day how there was quite abit of annoyed people that the prints were released again early in the morning and were snapped up by many many american baggers who seemingly didnt appreciate the works true value and were quite happy to flip these prints out at 2.2-2.5K a few days later, driving the price down as supply to demand percentage was arguably higher than previous prints, IMO of course.
This meant that a print that was destined to be worth 3-4k was readily available for 2.2k!! so maybe out american neighbours did us a favour in a round-a-bout way?
I would be interested to know your thoughts on this as it seems america buying them up to sell temporarily lowered the value of the print? creating effectively a bargain, although not 650 squids though!

Sepia Morons hits ยฃ3500, by dgb133 on Jun 18, 2007 22:54:56 GMT 1, I'm not sure exactly what time Morons was released but the site had already crashed by the time I woke up. I slept right through it here in the states. Maybe I missed it before I went to bed? But I certainly got no warning from POW.
And why don't you complain about the baggers at home? Surely there were more Morons sold from the UK? I picked up my Morons off the bay and will be keeping it here in the states. I also have a friend who scored a signed B&W - he's not selling it.
When somplace sells something for ยฃ500 that you can instantly turn around and sell for ยฃ3000 there's definitely going to be a whole lot of baggers. Lots. Hell, I don't think I would sell, but I'd be damn tempted. It's not very often in life you can make that kind of money that fast.
Also wait until the 6 month mark hits. There'll be a new crop of baggers selling who've been waiting not to piss of POW or waiting to see if the price goes even higher. There's over 1000 morons out there. I'd bet that close to half of them get sold and or resold within the next year or two.

Sepia Morons hits ยฃ3500, by dave313perry on Jun 18, 2007 23:01:42 GMT 1, It wasnt a knock at the usa and certainly not you, but its a fact that more Sepias have been sold from the usa than anywhere else, and seeing as the UK is the primary market by far for POW and Banksy. Its been discussed on here how that many prints became available in the middle of the night around 2ish if i remember rightly and they were snapped up by the american market, and many people on here have reported how on american art forums chat went on between friends to bag banksy's quick as they will be worth a fortune immediately!
Iv read all this info on this forum although i have seen a couple of forums discussing the release and this seems the case.
You cant deny the fact that there was previously loads of morons available from america, come to think of it i know someone who claimed to have 5 Sepia's all registered in different friends names, i saw him sell 3 through ebay so speaks fro itself imo, no slight on you or your collection, of course there is avid american collectors!

mmmm maybe, maybe not, i personally doubt it with the uk market rocketing recently, and its been widely agreed that when the sepia's were selling at 2.5 and below its was due to tax and customs and the danger of shipping damage, and that their true value within weeks would be 3k plus as realised in recent uk sales at 3.5k. only a mug would have cashed in a signed banksy at 2.2k

Its always a smart thing to take your profits. Especially a large $$$ amount for so little time. Holding an "investment" has risks and contrary to human psychology - theres no guarantees.

Sepia Morons hits ยฃ3500, by dgb133 on Jun 20, 2007 19:20:36 GMT 1, But it gives us yanks a shot at getting a Banksy at an almost ok price ;D And Banksy doesn't sell quite as well in the states. I think the problem is most yanks don't quite get your "british humour?"
And is it that only a mug would sell a signed Banksy at 2k? Or is the market elsehwere just not strong enough? I think we yanks just have more uhmm, restraint when it comes to parting with our money. Over $5000 for a print isn't something that should be done without some really serious thought. Banksy or not. As much as I love some of his prints, I don't think I have the cujones to spend that much on an editioned print even if I could pull it off. Whether it is or isn't signed. I'd much rather get me an original painting at these price or something that's a wee bit rarer than an edition of 1000. Maybe one day I'll scoop up a couple unsigned at reasonable prices? Hmm??? We'll see...

Sepia Morons hits ยฃ3500, by dave313perry on Jun 20, 2007 19:43:04 GMT 1, The market is not currently as aware internationally at the significance of Banksy.IMO. Although as you can see day by day they are slowly picking up on it, even ebay.com prices are rising at a quick rate, although not as quick as the UK! its nice to have a market where the trend is set in the UK and followed by the US instead of vice-versor!!!!!!! And 2k for a signed print of who is a revolutionary artist is not that much if you compare Banksy to an Artist such as Warhol. Some Warhol prints sell for around 100k.!!! Wether Banksy will be as big as Warhol is another matter but he is certainly following the footsteps to a degree at the minute!! anyway all this talk of finance and money, and market trends makes me wheezy! i just adore his art and think there is plenty of room for growth in content and value, and i will continue to collect, oh and im not grumbling about the US buying the prints, i actually cashed in on a US buyer and bought for around 2.3k about 3-4 weeks ago so happy days...no plans on selling tho just happy to have one!

Sepia Morons hits ยฃ3500, by dgb133 on Jun 20, 2007 20:43:04 GMT 1,
Or has Britain over reacted? Time will tell... Will the rest of the world really "get" Banksy? I'm in the states but my great grandpappies and grandmammies sailed over here 'bout 100 years ago from England so I have a soft spot for British humour, and Banksy etc.
But will the rest of the world?
I find it funny though that pictures of the Queen being muff dived and kissing police has been so embraced by popular british culture. Kind of takes away some of the oomph from the images don't ya think? I bet in another 10-20 years people will be thinking of Banksy as being old, staid and quaint. ;D Maybe then I'll be able to get a signed print at a reasonable price?

Sepia Morons hits ยฃ3500, by bond on Jun 20, 2007 20:55:00 GMT 1, I think the day's of a reasonably priced banksy have long gone . The world is so materialistic now that a couple of yrs ago Banksy was loved primarily for his art and the chat on this board was based solely on the artistic merits.
Now it's " what's this worth " and " have you seen the price of this one !! "
Good for those in at the ground floor - a sort of reward for those who just bought for the art in that you can now sell a ยฃ 50 print for a really large amount .
It used to take a fair length of time for the prints to sell out , even the signed ones.
Most i am sure are owned by people who just love the art , otherwise there would be 100's of each for sale at any one time.
But with popularity comes " fashion " and many now pile into Banksy art to solely make money and really miss the point. This is probably the reason for " Morons "
Good on the man for selling via POW at affordable prices. Just a shame that it's all now totally down to the luck of the draw and whether your POW shopping basket actually makes it to checkout without crashing.
The one good thing is that now people are looking for other artists, not neccessarily as the " next big thing " but simply just to be happy with what they can afford and put on their walls.
Banksy is i believe only ever going to get bigger. Even discovering his identity - and i don't think anyone really wants to - will not detract from the histeria.
- thanks for listening to my ramblings !

Sepia Morons hits ยฃ3500, by catfelix69 on Jun 20, 2007 21:02:51 GMT 1, Its a pain in the ass - I think prices are pushed up by people who have too much money to worry about putting ยฃ10,000 into a Banksy print. Once a Banksy has sold for a certain amount on ebay, it seems to equal the new set price for that print. It just means people who want prints for their pleasure can't afford them anymore.
I don't think that made sense...

i tend to skip over the 'money' threads... i just couldn't give a flying feck.
i can understand the interest in what prints may reach on ebay or at auction, but of late, value and speculative crystal ball gazing seems to be the only thing that gets 'column inches' on here
