CHARIDEE, by verbalkint on May 9, 2007 21:20:15 GMT 1, you are a total headcase!! hold together a proper argument for christs sake! How the hell has he taken ยฃ332.50 from warchild? they were selling the books for a tenner, so if he hadnt bought the books from them, then the people who got them from him would have. there were still the same number of books published. 1000 books = ยฃ10000. get it? it doesnt make the slightest bit of difference to the charity that he sold them on, can you not grasp that? are you a drooling moron or something! the charity would get the same no matter what, so you tell me, what is the problem. answer the charity still gets the same i know, you are not listening. he has used the demand for a charitable product to line his own pockets. if these books went to his buyers on ebay the charity still gets the same but he doesn't profit. i'm saying someone who uses a charitble opportunity to further themselves is a c*nt. do you disagree?
yes i absolutely disagree
Im of the opinion that if i can make money by doing something that absolutely hurts no one at all, where i am providing something that someone is willing to pay for, where they are happy with what they have bought then i have no problem in selling that product and i will not lose a minutes sleep over it.
someone who sells drugs, sick images of children or robs elderly people of their life savings deserves to be tortured very slowly and then shot, in my opinion, but i do not see anything wrong with what this guy has done, no one got hurt, the charity benefitted from his purchases.
And just to point out that i gave ยฃ5000 to charity last year. I will be honest, it was either that or pay it as tax, but i went to the effort of completing the considerable amount of paperwork to send the money to charity. Im not anti-charity, but i am pro capitalism and i will never call someone a c*nt for having the sense to make a bit of money, aslong as they hurt no one in the process

sorry, i know i said we're done but how do you know no-one got hurt? andipa could still have mountains of these catalogues and hundreds of pounds waiting to be donated, yet matey is sucking up demand and making a tidy profit. if the books are sold out at andipa you may have more of a point. as i see it he is taking charitable trade from them.
sorry to labor this but maybe you see my point, even if you don't agree with it?
oh, and i stand by c*nt 100%.

CHARIDEE, by verbalkint on May 9, 2007 21:38:16 GMT 1, if you can prove that he has hurt someone, then i will back you calling him a c*nt 100%, but you cannot, and no i cannot prove that he hasnt, but in this country we have a system where the burden of proof falls on the 'prosecution'. In this thread, by attacking someone you are the 'prosecuter' so the burden of proof lies with you. I need no proof to defend someone.
I may not have the same moral fibre as you lesbianwednesdays, i would not know, but one thing i try not to do is judge people. I just dont think you have the right to call someone on here a c*nt.

'tis a good point verbal and let me clarify that i refer specifically to his actions as those of a c*nt. in other aspects of his life he may be a saint. as for me? of course i'm far from perfect and life is a constant struggle between trying to do what is right for me and what is the right thing to do. i'm lucky i had a mum who taught me to try and do the right thing and that is how i want to be, it isn't always the case - ask my wife!
just to have one last shot at getting you on my side i bought my catalogue this week from andipa and he has already completed on 5 sales, so even if i bought the last copy he has already fallen in to me perceived typecast.
sorry if my language offended anyone here but like i said earlier i stand by it. if this seller wants to come on here and try and set the record straight or whether he will just ghost and takes points off me remains to be seen but i've always tried to make my point even if it's not agreed with because at the end of the day if we all thought the same things life would be a little boring, no?
that last bit sounds like jerry springer's thought for the day i know.

CHARIDEE, by verbalkint on May 9, 2007 21:54:22 GMT 1, I suppose its a similar argument to someone selling on tickets for a charity concert that has a great line up and sells out in 10 seconds, its annoying to have to go to the secondary market and pay through the nose, and we have all missed out on signed prints only to see some lucky SOB listing it on ebay 2 days later, when you wouldnt have dreamed of selling it.
You are obviously a passioate person, and you stand by your points, and i do respect that. I made the mistake of thinking that you hadnt thought your comments through before making them (maybe you hadnt and are just winging it now) but you can back your opinion up with argument and the world would be a shite place to live if we all agreed.

CHARIDEE, by corblimeylimey on May 10, 2007 11:02:47 GMT 1, Can't anyone see that the charity has lost out? 6 books sell for ยฃ332 charity only gets ยฃ60 (or ยฃ90 not quite sure if it's ยฃ10 or ยฃ15 to charity) Those people who bought 1 book for the average price of ยฃ55 could have and may have bought 3 books for that price, they might not have wanted three themselves but could have given two to friends or as presents or something, therefore the charity would have received 3 times as much.
I can't see why the seller couldn't have donated at least some of his profit back into the charity.

CHARIDEE, by pezlow on May 10, 2007 11:45:03 GMT 1, There is a very similar debate running on the giant forum in relation to the flippers of Shepard Fairey's recent charity print. Whilst I can see both sides of the argument in my opinion the overwhelmingly right thing to do is donate at least some of your profit from the catalogue sales to Warchild.

CHARIDEE, by mcnuts on May 10, 2007 12:02:00 GMT 1, I agree with Pez on this. The debate on the Obey forum over the charity print as well as the general debate on flipping is interesting. I had the chance to buy the Shep Darfur print but didnt as I couldnโt never ever see it on my walls. I know I could have bought it and flipped it but doing that just felt dirty. I dont have a problem selling some things on but gobbling up chairty stuff to mark it up purely for one's own profit is unethical.
This is also the case with the Banksy Andipa catalogues. Many people bought them after the Banksy show just to sell them on purely for themselves. I can understand selling them for a few bob more to โsuckersโ who may want to pay for it, but I did not see one auction (and I could be wrong) that had any money go back to War Child (or any other charity for that matter) which is where the funds of the catalogue were going. Thatโs just greedy.

IS IT MY FAULT THAT SHIT HAPPENED TO HIM? NO. DO I FEEL SORRY FOR HIM, WELL, ASSUMING IT IS TRUE YES I DO. BUT DO I FEEL SORRY ENOUGH TO PUT MYSELF ยฃ2000 OUT OF POCKET, ABSOLUTELY NOT.
NOW A GENUINLY NICE PERSON WOULD PROBABLY TRY TO HELP HIM OUT, GIVE HIM A GRAND BACK AND TRY TO SELL THE DIAMOND FOR A GRAND LESS, BUT THAT IS WHY THEE IS NO ROOM FOR 'NICE' PEOPLE IN BUSINESS. SORRY, BUT ITS A FACT.
WOULD BE INTERESTED TO HEAR YOUR TAKE ON THIS SITUATION.

Im not sure who thats aimed at, but a quick glance of your listings tell me that someone with a Monthly turnover of ยฃ12k needs to tighten up on your DSR As there are various things that are incorrect on your Ebay listings/shop.
As for the Diamond buyer thats tough titty, but helping someone out once in a while isnt all that hard is it, remember what goes around comes around....
I trues you are all up to date with Accounts etc as if someone ( rightly or wrongly) took my money i would certainly try & make life complicated for them, its only a few phone calls to cause a lot of shite.....

You sound very selfish, I don't know much about the jewelry business except there's large margins in it (Why buy from the high street with their 700% mark ups?) you could have given the guy his money back and sold the diamond for ยฃ3000 and still made a profit, you wouldn't be losing any money just making less profit.
It's also shortsighted, this guy will tell other people how unhelpful you were and you'll lose business that way too, infact I won't be using stores.ebay.co.uk/11-V-E-R-I-T-A-S-11

Still, losing an existing customer costs twice as much as acquiring a new customer.
he will tell other people about his experience, and even though they might have never approached you for diamonds anyway, you'll never know now.
although i can see your reasoning, and i'm sure you'll help him as much as possible.

Do you think he has?
Why not say something about the charity in the listing or have it down as an ebay charity listing?
