Jumps of over 100% cause hyperinflation and it is unsustainable. I hope when the bottom drops out people don't get hurt because they were in it for the investment.

We are all part of this nonsense. just be participating in this thread we have probably added a hundred to the price of the next JD to sell on ebay. it is said that all good things come to an end, sooner or later prices may well slow down or some prints may even go down in value. for me though the bottom isn't likely to drop out of the market in the near future. micallefs edtion sizes are generally much lower than Banksy's(there is no sign of his prices slowing) and his work is going to get good exposure to the US and lots of Asia/World? when he tours with the Britsh Museum. the people paying these high prices may well end up having got themselves bargains?.

Judgement Day, by pkt75 on Jul 11, 2007 5:56:11 GMT 1, Did you not make an offer, Mr H? I dont wanna burst ur bubble and please forgive me if im wrong, only Im sure I read on here or Micallef or Dface forum, that the seller of this piece was lookin for an offer of ยฃ1600. He said that if he had listed it as ยฃ1700, he wouldnt have got offers of wot he was lookin for hence ยฃ2500 BIN. Im gonna try and find the post. This is not a 'Sour Grapes' thang, well not entirely.... Im jus sure you could have got it cheaper if you had tried. Now for me to get mine, Iv gotta pay a grand more than i did the day b4 yesterday. Cheers mate!! Enjoy this amazin Piece!!!! Phil

i think the JD you are refering to was another seller and the accepted an offer of ยฃ1500.

I can understand your frustration and totally agree that Mr H paid over the odds for his JD. However, the fact that he has paid ยฃ2.5K really doesn't mean that this value is now set in stone. Undoubtedly, a few people will now list their prints with much higher reserves or buy-it-nows, but for prices to rise a number of people actually have to be willing to buy at that price. One sale doesn't determine the price of the market and, as I'm sure you know, the "value" of art can go down as well as up. I'd be surprised to see loads of buyers willing to pay that sort of money for a JD, at lease not until after the LA show.

Judgement Day, by misteraitch on Jul 11, 2007 8:36:54 GMT 1, No I didn't make an offer I BIN'ed it as I didn't want to miss out.
Sadly I was unable to purchase it when it was orignally released and was unable to make it to SG and take the risk of not getting it there either - unlike danvnuk you luck so-and-so (great story btw!)
But I don't understand why is everyone so upset? I spent the money nobody else and as far as I'm concerned the piece is worth it. OK so some of you think i'm foolish for paying such a large amount - but I know that the "value" of my print will never go down as it was bought for its beauty- I love the image and as previously mentioned it says a lot more than his HFUNG, MWIH or NOUM and it's certainly better than Applause (IMO). As for how many others will pay that price - not many I suspect
As for the statement "how is it that a print that you could buy 3 months ago for 5-600, and two weeks ago for 1200-1500, now worth 2500-3k?" One could also argue the same with the banksy prints rising to ยฃ2.5 k in less than 24 hours it's only worth it if you're prepared to pay that kind of money - and it appears a lot of us are prepared to part with such amounts
You'll all be thankful when you start to sell yours for that price too ;D

Judgement Day, by pkt75 on Jul 11, 2007 9:13:51 GMT 1, I think its worth a whole lot more when the time comes to pay the higher price. You have paid well over the odds (regardless of wot its worth to you) jus becoz you can!!! Now those of us that wanted it b4 and where hopin it would arise 4 sale at the same time as payday, with the plans of stayin in 4 a whole month and eatin beans on toast can forget that tactic now. U cannot escape the fact that you have forced the price to rise beyond wot its worth at the moment. Every seller of that piece is gonna use ur sale as a startin block. I dare say some that were planin on keepin their 'Judgement Day' will be havin second thoughts today. I am a little sour, but not becoz u own this print. I really hope u enjoy it. Im a little sour becoz u paid more than you really needed to, jus becoz u can!!!! Phil
Ps, my appologies for the untrue statement of the offer prices the seller would have taken had an offer been submitted. I wasnt entirely sure it was same guy and pretty much said so in the original statment, Tho sorry all the same.

Just because I can???
Sorry but you have no idea of my financial situation. How long have I been eating beans on toast? How many nights have I spent sitting in while friends were out? Did I scrimp and save to buy it? Did I pull out a wad of Cash? Did i put it on my credit card on the never never? You'll never know so please don't make assumptions
What is important is that I chose too pay that price - ยฃ1k over what you were prepared to pay by all accounts and there are people on this forum who could say the same about you for being prepapred to spend ยฃ1.5k on a print
So I'm sorry that you feel hard done by and that I have hiked up a price uneccesarily, but as has laready been mentioned, it takes more than one person to push the price up. So when those that are scrambling to put their JD's onto the bay don't make any sales, perhaps they'll stop being so greedy and you'll get the print at the price you're prepared to pay
but don't just have a go at me just becasue I did!!!

Judgement Day, by mp on Jul 11, 2007 9:48:35 GMT 1, I kind of feel like JD is a weird situation though, as I never understood why it wasn't priced as high as the other Micallef's. I bought one on the secondary market right after SG and have loved it since the first time I saw it. The image and it's depth in the flesh are amazing. Not to mention it is HUGE. Definitely the most dominant piece in my place.
I also bought a Flag(which I love as well) right around that time and three weeks later, they were both selling for less than I had paid for them. It didn't change how I felt about the pieces and ultimately proved that the market does go up and down. Now the market is up and both prints are worth more than I had originally paid in January. Who knows if that will change again?
I have another thread where I offered to trade my Morons for a Beejoir SBFO and someone took away one of my respect points. Now personally, I don't get why, because to me making that trade is worth it. This marketplace will always be a subjective thing when it comes to the collectors, because so much of it is based on personal taste. Now the baggers on the other hand, they're the ones messing a lot of this up for us. They're in it for the quick cash and don't give a sh*t about us, the people who really care about art and love it.
It just comes down to the simple principle that we've all talked about on this board and others. Art will always and only be worth what someone else is willing to pay for it.
To Mr. H, paying what he did was worth it and he could afford it, so he did it. More power to him. But that really doesn't mean this one sale will set the going rate forever. If anything is going to do that, it's the Micallef LA show, I think prices after that are going to be scary...

Judgement Day, by westley on Jul 11, 2007 12:20:37 GMT 1, I think that the ebay market will rise even more as its gallerys that are now buying all the prints up as they can buy mostley what they want and can sit on it for as long as they like and charge what they want the days of ebay being cheap are gone as prints are finding homes and staying there once a gallery owns it they then can set a price thats why they never have the price on show it always contact us for price as for a crash you will never see that who would sell a print that cost them 1500 for less than that anything you buy you should buy because you like it if you dont have the money to spend on it you should not spend it
and yes it was me that sold the print for 2500

and yes it was me that sold the print for 2500

Judgement Day, by daz205 on Jul 11, 2007 13:12:33 GMT 1, why are people moaning? if you dont want to pay 2.5k for the print then dont buy it, if you like the print and think its worth 2.5k then buy it. Supply and demand ( except for price fixing by galleries ) will dictate the market. How many times have old threads with banksys being sold for ?K been bought up since his exposure in la and price increases caused by that. if you wait you might get it cheaper or you may never be able to afford it again- its up to you, dont slag people off cause they wanted one and made the plung to buy it while you were umming and arrring about the price
