Anyone tried the new Artnet online auctions?, by sfdoddsy on Oct 31, 2008 10:32:28 GMT 1, Whilst browsing Artnet looking for DuBuffets I can't afford, I noticed that they now have an online auction section:
www.artnet.com/Auctions/Pages/Common/Auction/BrowseAuctions.aspx
Already there have been some very interesting pieces, including quite a few Banksys, Dubuffet, Warhol, Lichtenstein, Rotella, Matta, Guangyi etc etc.
However, its real value seems to me to be as a place to buy and sell those pieces which are too specialized for eBay, yet not rich enough for the full auction house experience. In other words the 1K to 5K type of piece.
For a buyer you can find a place where these pieces are available from (presumably) trusted sellers. And as a seller the auction house cut is 10% rather than 25%.
Just while observing I've seen some pretty good deals.
So has anyone signed up either as buyer or seller?
