Can anyone offer any guidance on what makes one type of screenprint better/more expensive etc... than an other?
The two versions of Insect's Wire which went up today for example - the cheaper one was six colour screenprint (but a larger edition) but the more expensive one was four colours. I would have thought the more colours the better?

When I do my prints, the first cost is paper. Then the films I buy (which are about $100 a color). After the film cost, is the emulsion cost, to coat the screens. The actual screen cost is minimal, because you can reuse the screens many times. After all this is done, its time for printing. In general, the more colors you have the more time it takes. Each screen needs to get registered and trial proofs ran off it (which means more wasted paper). There is also extra cleanup time for each color.
After having said all that, what should really matter is the quality of the art itself. The prices POW charges have nothing to do with printing costs. Its all about artist name and edition size.
