Inquiring galleries & artists about purchasing, by Francis on Sept 4, 2008 18:08:05 GMT 1, When you guys inquire about works to purchase from galleries and artists, do you do so to guage what the prices are so that you can save up and purchase later on, or do you always inquire while making sure you have enough money on hand to make an immediate purchase? Sometimes I want to just get a sense of how much they are looking for a certain artist and securing funds afterwards. But, they may sell the piece I want while I am doing so and I don't want to seem like someone who is wasting their time. What do you guys do?

Inquiring galleries & artists about purchasing, by Wearology on Sept 4, 2008 19:02:59 GMT 1, Flipping has become it's own art form on this forum - People gain notoriety for their abundance of posts and than try their hand at selling prints and or originals that they either got for free or bought not on the secondary market - They feel that since they have joined the movement early that they are not only experts on everything Banksy they are great judges of future talents as well. Some people flip out of financial necessity in order to buy more art - some flip out of greed just to make money - and some are so wealthy that don't need to flip at all - some don't flip because it's a hassle - I have made over twenty purchases with forum members and never had a problem until this week - Flipping is something that has been a part of this forum since the beginning - Originally Silky didn't even have a section for buyers and sellers (E-Bay) until a gallery (Black Rat Press) suggested it - I have a lot more to say but I am actually boring myself so I will stop typing now -

Inquiring galleries & artists about purchasing, by thesewalls on Sept 4, 2008 20:34:41 GMT 1, in almost every instance, if i've been able to afford the price tag, i've bought it, and if it's been out of my range, someone else bought it before i could save the amount in question.
you are not wasting their time, nor should you worry about it. this is what they do. responding to people like you and me, whether or not we buy all the time, is part of their livelihood...especially if they don't want to list prices on their website. and if you think you can up the funds and do really want to buy it, most places will hold it for a week or so. some only 24 hours. and if they sell it after that they sell it, no skin off your back, and no time wasting, as the deal is done with or without you. having them hold it and not following through with payment is the only way i can see a 'buyer' wasting a gallery or artists time. for instance, i haven't paid for a piece yet but on the gallery's website it says sold. i am totally buying it, just hasn't happened yet for a few minor reasons. they're even changing the glass (its framed) to perspex so it can survive the trip from London to NYC. if i don't pay for it now THAT would be a waste of time! ok i think i made my point. inquire away monfrare!
wearology what the harness are you talking about?!?! SOMEONE'S a little obsessed with flipping eh? good luck with that Mr. Pancakes.
