obey and moveon's manifest hope art contest, by rachel koper on Aug 8, 2008 20:28:58 GMT 1, Hey so, I've heard about this for a while, it's finally posted and official, but the deadline to enter obama art is Aug. 18th, very soon. It's seems like it'll be a great show. Here is the offical call for art.... pol.moveon.org/mh/about.html
evilmonito.com/2008/08/04/pro-obama-art-contest/ sayz.. MoveOn.org, artist Shepard Fairey and Upper Playground announced today that they will join forces to host the โManifest Hope Art Galleryโ (manifesthope.com) at the Democratic National Convention. The gallery, open from Sunday, August 24 through Thursday, August 28 2008, will feature both known and new artists all supporting Barack Obama for President.
The groups also launched a related contest today, calling for entries of visual art from grassroots supporters of Senator Obama. Similar to MoveOn.orgโs โObama in 30 secondsโ contest, the submissions will be reviewed by a panel of judges including famed artists Ross Bleckner, April Gornik, Eric Fischl, Shepard Fairey, musicians Moby, Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth and DJ Spooky and Cydney Payton - Executive Director & Chief Curator Museum of Modern Art Denver, and Nancy Spector - Author & Guggenheim Curator of Contemporary Art. Five finalists will be selected to show in the MANIFEST HOPE Gallery alongside well-known artists such as Shepard Fairey, Sam Flores, Ron English, Chris Pastras, Mel Kadel and David Choe.
I have some of these Austin made stencils in my office...

obey and moveon's manifest hope art contest, by Karl Read on Aug 8, 2008 21:37:32 GMT 1, It's a shame you have to be an American resident to enter.

obey and moveon's manifest hope art contest, by rachel koper on Aug 9, 2008 19:32:25 GMT 1, I noticed that it states usa residents only. I agree that's a bummer. Maybe you could enter via a proxy alter ego friend with a us address. It's probably just because of fun stuff like taxes, duties, and insurance bonding fees.
upperplayground, obey giant, Mr. English, it's great to see this group all working together outside of Cali.
thanks for those links I'll be checking all of them. I think one of my good friends Zach McDonald from Austin will be participating but I haven't seen the new work yet.

obey and moveon's manifest hope art contest, by loucastel on Aug 25, 2008 17:15:27 GMT 1, Judging by a lot of the entrys, Jake I'm not suprised your's didnt get anywhere, I think if it had loads of stars and stipes etc, it would have done well, I personally still think yours is by far the best, with a very strong meaning, perhaps that's what the judges didnt like, as it wasnt all God bless America, which to my mind ,(being european) makes a nice refreshing change, hang on in there mate!! better luck next time.

obey and moveon's manifest hope art contest, by BK83 on Aug 26, 2008 23:43:12 GMT 1, Can't believe yours didn't make it CJ?!?!-- by far one of the most creative.
I mean, come on. The Obama/Hope 08 and the Unite Us ones are fucking garbage. They're like poster art for Obama. was it a graphic design contest or an art contest? And yes, in this case they are mutually exclusive!
I liked yours CJ. It had great artistic integrity and although it was little more abstract than the other submissions, it was profoundly clear in it's content.
Better luck next time.
