Andy Warhol 🇺🇸 Real or Fake? • Sunday B. Morning Print, by dreadnatty on May 19, 2014 18:03:32 GMT 1, Plans for Andy Warhol Museum at Essex Crossing SPURA Site Are Moving Forward
One of the many wildcards of the new Essex Crossing development is a high-profile Warhol Museum outpost. Though initially included in the initial proposal pitched by the Delancey Street Associates consortium, there was still uncertainty as to whether it would happen. Until this past Saturday.
Reps confirmed to the museum’s hometown paper, the Pittsburg Post-Gazette, that the twenty-year-old institution is indeed moving forward with the 10,000 square-foot SPURA locale. It’ll be housed on parcel number one, currently the Broome Street municipal parking lot. But there is still plenty of work to be done, lots of crossing t’s and dotting lowercase j’s.
The developers are apparently footing the cost for the Andy Warhol Museum, slated for completion in 2017. They will also pay for any operating deficits in the first five years of its existence.
Andy Warhol was born and raised in Pittsburg, hence the location. There are reportedly no plans to ever move the OG museum.
As a postscript, it’s also worth noting that the museum had purportedly considered opening in 199 Bowery, current home of that terrible EMM Group complex.

Andy Warhol 🇺🇸 Real or Fake? • Sunday B. Morning Print, by Poppy Sunshine on Jun 10, 2014 18:49:36 GMT 1, Welcome to my "everythings £200" shop. (Plus postage that is)
I won't bother with pics for everything as you'll know what they are.
Slinkachu Concrete Ocean book and Animals print. edition 100. JR Women are Heroes pasted book from Lazarides. edition 75. Herakut Perfect Merge book and print. edition 100.
James Paterson original.
And then come the Warhols. All Sunday B Morning Blue labels with coa's.
Moa Orange. 29.5 x 33.5 inches. Mao Silver Marilyn Gold 1. (not the official number just my own for reference) Marilyn Gold 2 Marilyn Gold 3 Marilyn Gold 4
Marilyn Lilac (I have 2 of these)
Warhol Tomato Soup. (I have 3 of these) 23 x 35 inches. Warhol Onion Soup.
I also have a full set of 10 of the ordinary coloured Marilyns. I'll take £1750 for the set.
All the Warhols need to be posted flat so I have to get ply sheets etc for protection. Last time I went through this process it cost £25 per print to ship via courier in the UK (or £25 per single package of multiple prints). I have no reason to think it would be any different now so I've just put it out there in advance of the question being asked.
I'm in Derby if anyone wants to collect.
Cheers.

Andy Warhol 🇺🇸 Real or Fake? • Sunday B. Morning Print, by Deleted on Jun 10, 2014 22:38:35 GMT 1, Hello, I have my eye on this book, and Ive done a ton of research on it. It has no COA but I believe it to be real. What would you guys offer based on the cover condition, 2x sig and heart sketch? he was originally asking $1900, then went down to $1500. Any help is appreciated

Andy Warhol 🇺🇸 Real or Fake? • Sunday B. Morning Print, by Deleted on Jun 10, 2014 22:56:19 GMT 1, I am no way an expert, just a guy that has a Warhol.
Just by looking at it the sigs look legit, I have seen before where he signed in more than one place, many times he would also initial as well. I do not think it necessarily makes it more desirable or worth more. Also he very often did 'not so great' doodles of soup cans, etc with autographs. It is not really something worthy of framing in it's own right as a drawing, so I would say whatever similar signed Exposures are going for should be about right.
I guess the only real question is to confirm that it is a first edition.

Andy Warhol 🇺🇸 Real or Fake? • Sunday B. Morning Print, by Deleted on Jun 11, 2014 0:10:59 GMT 1, Thx guys. I do think it's real, I've looked at many others with the same markings, sig style etc. it seemed he had a big signing with this books release and this is 100% a 1st edition, it says so inside. That I forgot to mention.
So, what would you offer if you wanted it?

Andy Warhol 🇺🇸 Real or Fake? • Sunday B. Morning Print, by bjornca on Jun 20, 2014 17:15:55 GMT 1, Came across this article this morning, for those interested in recent Haring pieces that were available (saw some of those on Paddle8 just the other day). Hope everything gets sorted for those involved (and I'm not referring to the Swede).
Online Trove of Haring and Warhol Works Fake, Experts Say
"If you happen upon a mysterious trove of heretofore unknown Keith Haring works in an online sale, think twice. Maybe. According to several tips to artnet News, a rash of works by Haring and other ’80s stars are being peddled far and wide, and are plaguing the online art market."

Hope Pure Evil gets all his money back.
A question that I have is why do the estates of these artists stop authenticating work and dissolve themselves? Why can't they continue to authenticate and charge a fee to do so?

Andy Warhol 🇺🇸 Real or Fake? • Sunday B. Morning Print, by Deleted on Jun 20, 2014 17:34:09 GMT 1, various reasons.
Some stop authenticating to protect the allready authenticated art and keep prices high.
Others stop to avoid constant harassment from people who demand what they have is authentic.
Others don't have the expertise.
In fact descendants of dead artists should not always be the authenticators by birthright.
Descharnes is recognised by Sothebys not by Dali foundation and today even Descharnes Grandson is a Dali drawings authenticator.
The art world and authentication can be just as much who you know.

A question that I have is why do the estates of these artists stop authenticating work and dissolve themselves? Why can't they continue to authenticate and charge a fee to do so? Believe the foundations were continuously being sued by collectors or otherwise, and were spending significant money on legal counsel, so decided to rather not be caught up in it. Can search around on this topic. This is an excerpt from one article I found:
"In 2011, authentication lawsuits alone became such a burden to the Warhol Foundation that they elected to shut down their authentication board entirely. “It is a matter of priority, and our responsibility to Andy’s mission. Our money should be going to artists, not lawyers,” Joel Wachs told The Art Newspaper. The Warhol Foundation had spent millions of dollars in their defense against Simon-Whelan, but it seems as if in shutting down the authentication board, they have yet to shield themselves entirely."

Why can't they continue to authenticate and charge a fee to do so? For Legal and Financial reason. It has become to costly for the estates to protect/defend themselves in litigation disputes when, for exemple, a buyer spent big chunk of money on what he believe is a real one.
I can't remember exactly which one (please add reference but one estate of a famous artist got bankrupted/financially in ruin in the 80s-90s after such a legal dispute (they had to pay back tens of million $ to a buyer who bought a wrongly authenticated painting at an auction, or something like this)
edit: as Bjorn said

Andy Warhol 🇺🇸 Real or Fake? • Sunday B. Morning Print, by Deleted on Jun 20, 2014 17:51:06 GMT 1, Lots of Controversy with all of them: Warhol, Haring and Basquiat foundations.
There were instances re: Warhol where works that had been bought from Warhol himself and also a few well known collectors/dealers purchased during his lifetime that had been deemed authentic for decades were summarily denied.
So it wasn't just some dumb angry collectors that bought fakes.

Thanks for the link, it's a good read. Too bad for Charley.
Funny, he posted a pic of a stamp on a Warhol he bought, on FB, and I thought it looked a bit different from the stamps on my Warhol.
But I'm no expert and he has a gallery so I didn't say anything.

Andy Warhol 🇺🇸 Real or Fake? • Sunday B. Morning Print, by Deleted on Jun 22, 2014 13:20:58 GMT 1, There is some advice that people follow when buying expensive art.
Always buy art with known and provable provenance.
It's true that undiscovered masterpeices come up occasionally but often they are classed as copies untill someone gets their hands on them that has the resources and knows the right people to get a positive opinion or get them authenticated.
Some people have taken art to auction to be told by some plummy chinless Wonder that "it's a copy" which is auctioned for a few thousand only to find out that wonder of wonders the new owner re sells at the same auction house for a very big price a year or so later.
