Andy Warhol ๐บ๐ธ Real or Fake? โข Sunday B. Morning Print, by yatyat on Jul 19, 2018 16:18:19 GMT 1, the only edition for a reasonable investment is, in my opinion, that of Sunday B Morning with the black stamp. The edition with the blue stamp has not been recognized by Andy Warhol. The prices vary between 800 and 1200 euros for a Soup can and between 1000 and 2000 euros for a Marilyn. Other editions (Bluegrass, museums ....) have no value even plate signed.
Lesson learned, thank you! May I know why thereโre blue and black stamps?

After a few hundred prints, he decided to withdraw the rights to Sunday B morning but they had all the right color codes so they continued to mass produce the series Marilyn, soup can, Mao ... he asked the printer to change the colors of stamps on the back to avoid confusion (blue stamp) even if the damage was done.

How about those after Warhol withdrawal from Sunday B Morning, how can we validate the authenticity or the value of it?

Unless you have 6 figures to invest in a warhol from Martin Lawrence Gallery It just to big of a gamble as far as authenticity goes (imo of course) to buy anything off ebay.

I consider a plate signed print simply to be an unsigned print. This doesnโt mean itโs worthless though. There are plenty of unsigned prints that have a value. I have an original Miro print which is plate signed. Iโd love one that had been signed by the artist. Whilst not as valuable as a signed one, my print is not worthless. Moreover, itโs beautiful and Iโve enjoyed looking at it for decades.

Andy Warhol ๐บ๐ธ Real or Fake? โข Sunday B. Morning Print, by Extra Ball on Jul 20, 2018 14:21:37 GMT 1, Totally agree coach but I think we must take into consideration the will of the artist, what is his approach. I imagine that if Warhol took matters out of Sunday B Morning, he had his reasons for doing so. He did everything during his lifetime to produce in bulk but as he wanted, using his circuits. We see a little the same thing with current artists ... WCP for Banksy or lastly the poster published by the Bristol museum (angel with the pot of paint). Dali signed blank boards and let his collaborators work even years after his death. if the impression is unsigned but desired by the artist, it will have a greater value than if it has not been validated, even signed in the plate.

My apologies, I was replying only to the specific question, namely as a general rule of thumb are prints signed in the plate worthless.

Andy Warhol ๐บ๐ธ Real or Fake? โข Sunday B. Morning Print, by heller on Aug 25, 2018 21:38:24 GMT 1, When it comes to Warhol, Galleries are are safest route to acquire an authentic Warhol hand signed, numbered silkscreen as shown in the Catalogue Rasionne by Feldman.
Entry Level Warhols start at approximately $4500 for a UN Stamp, $7,000 for a Committee 2000 or Watercolor Paint Kit, but from there prices raise steadily. A Warhol Mickey sold this year for $150,000 all in.
I have been personally Buying, Selling and Trading Warhol for the last 10 years and we maintain about 80 - 100 Warhol's within our Gallery Collection at all times. It is a market that is still continuing to rise and that you can see still major increases in values of curtain works, as it seems every collector wants a Warhol in their collection, the body of available works in excellent condition are becoming ever more elusive.
For Example, When I started working in the industry a Unsigned Sitting Bull could be acquired easily for under $10,000 which now is trading close to or over $30,000. In 2011, I sold the II.360A Turtle for $16,500 which sold All-IN at Sotheby's in 2017 for $62,500. Majority of the works that feature timeless icons have seen similar price increases. That being said, when buying a Warhol, stick to timeless icons.
Mildred Scheel is a great examples of icons of their time that few today even know of their influences and their print market shows that, selling for a high in 2008 at over $18,000 and in today's market can barely achieve $4000 at the show.
Since the Warhol Authentication board no longer Authenticates, the more provenance the better, photos hung over period of time, original purchase receipt, and gallery stickers on the verso of the framed work, especially a Martin Lawrence Gallery Sticker on the Verso. Martin Lawrence Stickers have an Tractable Inventory Number, and they list additional information as in the Framing and the type of conservation materials used to frame the work.
Always ask if a work has had any restoration prior to purchasing, it is something that is typically not disclosed unless asked regarding directly. Acid Free Conservation framing was very expensive at the time, and many works that where framed where badly damaged. Art Print restoration has become big business, it's one thing for a work to be dipped to have the acid stains removed as nothing is being changed from the original print. Re-screening of works in very poor condition is another issue entirely. The industry has not established how much re-screening on a work still designates the work as a attributed to the Artist. With Warhol its a tougher debate as Warhol prints where pulled by other Master Printers at the time. So if a master Restorer is doing the work, does that make all well? As long as the Signature or edition number is un-compromised.
Your Thoughts?
Sunday B Morning has been re-printing the works originals published by them in the 1960's in the true Warholian spirit and wishes of the artist. We have seen many Sunday B Mornings Printed during the artists life that Warhol Signed then, wrote "Not Me" Under the signature. Fun, affordable, time period works.

Beware of cheaper priced Warhol's as condition is key for future resale value.

they are very knowledgeable and they ship worldwide.

Andy Warhol ๐บ๐ธ Real or Fake? โข Sunday B. Morning Print, by davea on Aug 31, 2018 23:10:20 GMT 1, To anyone who has knowledge:
There is a post from ten years ago about the Sunday B. Morning prints of Marilyn and Flowers which said they are still being made in Holland. Are they still being made, and do they have the black stamps on the verso like the original Sunday B. Morning prints made in in Belgium around 1970?
My understanding is that the original Sunday B's were made from the original Warhol screens but with different color schemes, and that these are more valuable than the open edition blue ink Sunday B's being produced now here in the U.S. - and that Warhol even signed some making those very valuable.
Are there Sunday B's being made with black stamps currently, and from what screens? And what are the screens used for the blue stamp Sunday B's?

Andy Warhol ๐บ๐ธ Real or Fake? โข Sunday B. Morning Print, by Brushstrokes 75 on Jan 16, 2019 15:35:03 GMT 1, the original sunday B were made with the same original screen and color scheme in an alleged edition of 250. Even though not officially licensed, warhol even signed some of them with the inscription "this is not by me". Those have a black stamp.
Every printed that Sunday B morning did afterwards, either in the original colorway or the new ones they are doing now are stamped in blue period. The switch the stamp not to confuse people. They are still high standard 1/1 reproduction that only have decoration value.
People are confused with what "after" means. After doesn't mean it's a copy or in the style of. it would take a long post (and i wrote one on a different thread about it). It means the print was done under the artist supervision but the artist didn't make the plate himself. Either an original piece of work was used (ex : a lithograph after a drawing or watercolor) or the artist entrusted his master printer (sometimes like with Sorlier and Chagall) to create a brand new image in the style of the artist that the artist would sign later.
The most expensive chagall prints are prints actually drawn by Sorlier and are after prints.
In this case, it most likely means that the original screens are used.

After is knownnword in the art world in many countries you have to specify exactly. In Europe at least you can have the auction house accountable for using after in the meaning in the style of. The two donโt have the same meaning.
Edit : after can only be used for a print not an OG. Obviously at dap said, use caution. But a professional using the wrong term to deceive a buyer is still liable

When they hit auction they get blown out for a fraction of purchase price. So they are not for people that collect art as an investment. They look lovely framed, but have little residual.

Andy Warhol ๐บ๐ธ Real or Fake? โข Sunday B. Morning Print, by ab3 on Jan 17, 2019 14:28:17 GMT 1,
I picked up a Sunday B. Morning print back in 2004 (for ยฃ200 from Belgium, I think) as the first 'proper' piece of art i ever purchased. It sent me on a journey that i'm still on and sparked my interest in buying limited edition prints from artists I love.
I know they aren't for everyone, but I didn't have the knowledge that I have today and if it weren't for this print, I may not have had the passion I have now for prints.
(I still think it looks great framed).
