Morning Print, by discoduster on Apr 6, 2010 17:09:48 GMT 1, >>>What's your take on the numbered lithos? <<< Disco, I'm afraid I don't know what you are talking about. I'll put it simply, from my perspective if one is investing in the image buy the official print run, AP/TP or the unique one offs that are authenticated by the estate/foundation. Otherwise, if one enjoys the image and can not afford the official releases, buy the cheapest one that looks the best to you as nothing else (imo) is going to appreciate over time.
Fair do's, I get ya. Thanks.

That's odd if they were released from the official Museum.

The numbered edition im guessing is something very high and not worth more than a sunday b morning but prob cost more, besides there is a great story re the way the sunday b mornings came to fruition and warhol knew about and ackowledged them before his death

To be clear here, my memory of this fact is that the sunday b mornings in his print CR are only the Marilyn run from the late 70s which were printed without his permission which he later joked about. I'm not an expert and it's been a very long time since I cracked open his print CR but the vast majority of the SBM prints came well after his death. If my memory is correct, there would be no SBM soup cans in the print CR.
edit: curiosity got the better of me and I just ran an artnet search to clear that up.
As you can see the Marilyn is noted in the CR:
Andy Warhol Title Marilyn Monroe (portfolio of 10) Medium color silkscreen on cardboard Printing/Casting Later Imp Size Height 36 in.; Width 36 in. / Height 91.4 cm.; Width 91.4 cm. Edition ed.10 Cat. Rais. 22-31, Feldman/Schellmann Found./Pub. Sunday b. Morning, pub. Misc. Stamped Sale of Auktionshaus Michael Zeller: Friday, April 23, 2010 [Lot 02159] 104. Internationale Bodensee-Kunstauktion Estimate 2,700 EUR (3,654 USD)
whereas the soup cans are not:
Andy Warhol Title Campbell's soup cans (10 works) Medium silkscreens Size Height 35 in.; Width 23 in. / Height 88.9 cm.; Width 58.4 cm. Found./Pub. Sunday B. Morning, pub. Misc. Stamped Sale of Montefiore Auction House: Tuesday, February 16, 2010 [Lot 00249] Israeli and International Art Estimate 2,000 - 3,000 USD Sold For BOUGHT IN After Andy Warhol Title Campbells soup cans (set of 10) Medium color screenprint Size Height 31.8 in.; Width 18.9 in. / Height 80.8 cm.; Width 47.9 cm. Does this mean it was originally part of a portfolio of ten prints that have since been split up? If so were they ten all the same or ten different? please excuse my ignorance but I have seen this phrase a few times today and I don't understand exactly what it means...

Andy Warhol ๐บ๐ธ Real or Fake? โข Sunday B. Morning Print, by aspyhole on Apr 7, 2010 1:18:16 GMT 1, Interesting discussion guys. I was trying to find for you an article about his catalogue, and his estate, who are going round de-certificating loads of prints which were apparently "not carried out by Warhol". Apparently they have been calling people's new purchases in for "cataloguing purposes" and then stamping them with a big red stamp on the back saying something like "withdrawn". Seems to have been a nightmare for those buying for investment (I suppose a large proportion of Warhol collectors). Anybody else come across this article and remember where it was?

I think I'm going to try and source a second hand Sunday B Morning print.
I was never intending to purchase as an investment but just wanted something more than a regular poster.
The Sunday prints appear to be high quality screenprints which is always nicer than a litho

Thought i would list this on here, it is an original Andy Warhol Signed and numbered print of edition 250 with full provenance and receipts of purchase. I have pics of the signature etc to those interested. It is in mint condition as it has been stored away in LA for 40 years....Unframed at present, though heading to London as we speak to be framed.
Any interest send me a message...no time wasters as i will not reply to senseless emails.
ps this is the actual piece in the pic below!! email me on
dodomank@hotmail.com for full details and pics/prices
pps. Please do not ask me if it comes with a COA, Warhol Soupcans unlike Banksy's etc do not come with COA's, COA's for Warhols are not worth the paper they are written on!! unless it comes from the Warhol Foundation. The Warhol Foundation has never authenticated a soupcan print. You will not get an authentic COA with a soupcan....FACT.And please make offer if interested as not wasting any more of my time giving out price for people to not reply.....sounds harsh but you all know how it is..
thanks

If you think of how many they would have to authenticate and the process it would be nearly impossible as no records would exist as to who they were sold on to by the distributors.

I'll have to dig up my correspondence with them but the piece I was in talks with them about was a signed and numbered print and they had no problem with that... I can only go by my dealing with them and the particular piece I was going to present...
the best thing to do if interested is contact them directly, info is always best when in comes straight from the horses mouth...

I too was under the impression that the Foundation never deals with prints but Photox has said otherwise in the past. I can attest to the fact that they are incredibly helpful and nice to deal with. There isn't much left in the way of canvases and that's been true for a good 5+ years now but Vincent Freemont is the name to ask for in that department. TIm Hunt handles prints or unique prints and last we spoke they still had a few unique Mao's and electric chairs on paper but the price was steep and the quality of the pull was poor. Their public number is 212-387-7555 and they are always there to help. Good luck with the sale Dodo
