Andy Warhol ๐บ๐ธ Real or Fake? โข Sunday B. Morning Print, by manty on Apr 29, 2010 17:53:16 GMT 1, When it comes to anything Andy Warhol and it is not authenticated by the foundation be VERY CAREFUL. I am not insinuating that this person is trying to sell something that is not 100% authentic - but when it comes to certain artists from that era WARHOL & HARING especially "COVEAT EMPTOR" my friends.
Just out of interest
When you see the soup cans at auction, what would they do to authenticate them?

Andy Warhol ๐บ๐ธ Real or Fake? โข Sunday B. Morning Print, by Wearology on Apr 29, 2010 21:16:11 GMT 1, To answer your question when I see soup cans being offered at auction - I would probably be a bit more comfortable buying them knowing that if they turned out to be fake than there may be some type of recourse able to be taken with an auction house - than when I see a soup can trying to be sold on a Banksy forum and more than half the post that it is being offered on is talking about authenticity and not about the item itself. I happen to know a little bit about the secondary market for Warhol and i will bite my tongue in order to not ruin your potential sale. I wish you good luck in your sale -

Andy Warhol ๐บ๐ธ Real or Fake? โข Sunday B. Morning Print, by dodomank01 on Apr 29, 2010 21:40:42 GMT 1, Hi there,
Thought i would list this on here, it is an original Andy Warhol Signed and numbered print of edition 250 with full provenance and receipts of purchase. I have pics of the signature etc to those interested. It is in mint condition as it has been stored away in LA for 40 years....Unframed at present, though heading to London as we speak to be framed.
Any interest send me a message...no time wasters as i will not reply to senseless emails.
ps this is the actual piece in the pic below!! email me on
dodomank@hotmail.com for full details and pics/prices
pps. Please do not ask me if it comes with a COA, Warhol Soupcans unlike Banksy's etc do not come with COA's, COA's for Warhols are not worth the paper they are written on!! unless it comes from the Warhol Foundation. The Warhol Foundation has never authenticated a soupcan print. You will not get an authentic COA with a soupcan....FACT.And please make offer if interested as not wasting any more of my time giving out price for people to not reply.....sounds harsh but you all know how it is..
thanks

I don't think anyone was questioning your motives on selling it here or bad mouthing you, I think it was more of a gathering of general information on obtaining some sort of COA, be it from the foundation, auction house or gallery...
Don't take it as personal jab, I don't see any of the post being aimed at you in that fashion at all...
Best of luck with it, it's a cracker of a print and anyone would be lucky to have it in their collection...

If you buy an Andy Warhol print, check that, any fine art print by a famous artist, think Dali, Picasso, Warhol etc. and it comes with a C O A ...you quite probably just got ripped off.
COAs are garbage.
Common sense however can go a long way.

that's very true, that's why you run like hell (that's what I call common sense) when someone trying to sell you a $28k warhol print gets pissed off when you start asking questions ... yes, I've had that happen... The only COA I wanted was from the foundation, which as far as I'm concerned is rock solid, being the reason that it's the only authentication I wanted or needed...
EDIT: just to make it clear and there is no confusion, I'm not talking about the seller that started this thread...

Andy Warhol ๐บ๐ธ Real or Fake? โข Sunday B. Morning Print, by snausages on Apr 30, 2010 5:38:06 GMT 1, It's probably not just because you're asking "questions." The guy just put feelers out to sell a print and there are what, 15 posts with negative implications and references to COAs which are a joke anyway.
I've purchase a Warhol print from a private collector and it is undoubtedly real and it was undoubtedly a deal. All you need is some common sense in evaluating the print, the seller and some sort of paper trail is nice. As said common sense can go a long way. We're all big boys here and can make our own judgement calls if we're interested in the print.

You're correct, Common sense and general knowledge go a long way but not everyone can be an expert and may want/need some help along the way... I'm a firm believer in asking as many questions as possible and without being embarrassed of what someone may think of you...

For what it's worth I don't think anyone is having a pop at you or what you're trying to sell. IMO it's kind of refreshing to see something like this being sold on the forum.
I'm sure some deals have been done for Banksy Kate's on here valued in the tens of thousands without COA's so that shouldn't be a big deal. But a bit more info in the sales thread would be helpful. You wrote that it had been stored in LA and then that you got it from a gallery (I may have misunderstood). Perhaps you could say what paperwork you have by way of gallery reciepts and alike. Some dimensions would also be useful because its comforting to know basic stuff like that.
Best of luck with the sale. One day I'll have enough dough to send a PM in relation to a nice print like yours

The main reason im selling this print is to fund my collection of Lichtenstein's....I think there are some words of wisdom out there, but i am a genuine seller who offers a full refund if not satisfied with the piece and its provenance, i would ask Wearology what COA's he has with his Warthols, i bet they are similar to mine, thats as good as it gets. there is no point in revealing all to the forum as i want people to email me with interest, however all i am getting at the minute is questions asking how much? then never hearing from them again ...so i feel this is probably a wasted excercise, and i agree with Wearology that a Banksy forum is not the place to sell a Warhol print, but as i stated i was cutting out the middle man. Also my price is a good ยฃ5k ยฃ10k below retail, however like me i feel that everyone wants this for nothing....thanks again

Andy Warhol ๐บ๐ธ Real or Fake? โข Sunday B. Morning Print, by lee3 on May 1, 2010 17:10:49 GMT 1, fwiw, Warhol's don't trade with COA's. You turn them over and look for a signature or the circular watermark from the estate/foundation or the penciled initials of Fred hughes or vincent freemont or any combination of them all. He kept meticulous records as has the Foundation and by and large there are precious few Warhol fakes which is quite telling given the enormous output of the artist. One has to be MUCH more careful buying lithos of modern art which has had a lot more forgeries by %. The highest profile fake Warhol's were the infamous Italian Marilyn prints which are easy to spot a mile away as the dimensions don't match up.
Dodo, if in your shoes (and I am to a degree) and you haven't made a deal for this yet, I'd be patient. I think Warhol prices are going to jump significantly over the next 2 weeks with the May auctions and I think we all may be shocked by how much. I wouldn't say this too often but that soup can could be worth double what it is today in ~ 14 days.

Either way im not bothered about a warhol on my walls so they dont really impress me other than in a financial sense, but the Haring are a different thing I love them.

Morning Print, by Wearology on May 1, 2010 21:49:39 GMT 1, My comments on this guys thread was very out of character for me - and you are correct especially as an assistant mod it should have been handled differently. I sent him a PM after I did it and apologized and helped put him in contact with a potential buyer. I went back and read my comments and they were not specifically critical of his intent - but they were certainly not how I usually conduct myself - WIZ would not be happy with me. I have made nice nice with the seller and all is well now and as for the Haring's thanks for the compliment they are the "prized possession" of the collection.
