Newcastle Gateshead's Art Fair, by Michael Jacob on Jul 28, 2008 15:33:54 GMT 1, Did anyone go the art fair last year? If Im not mistaken, it was their first one. They are having it again this year, September 12-14th. Just curious about number of booths, quality or artwork, number of buyers etc.
Also, what is the city like? Ive never been to the UK and was thinking of going. I turn 40 next week, and my wife wanted to send me there as a b-day gift. I wasnt sure if this would be a good first UK experience, or wait for something else? Thanks.

Newcastle Gateshead's Art Fair, by Wiseblood on Jul 28, 2008 16:02:27 GMT 1, There are a few airports near by, Durham Tees Valley is about 40 mins drive away, Leeds Bradford is about 1 hour 40 away, Manchester is about 3 hours away. London to Newcastle is 5hours+ in a car, or you could get the train from kings cross which will take about 3 hours. There are direct flights from New York to Newcastle if you can get to New York.

Newcastle Gateshead's Art Fair, by luvlyjubly on Jul 28, 2008 17:43:59 GMT 1, its true Newcastle is a great place! the baltic usally has some decent work in but often not my scene, opus and laz are the places to visit 4 sure. Also didnt make the Art fair though, so cant comment on that. PS Doncaster is another airport worth looking at, its a very easy run to Newcastle! literaly 1 road!! (A1) straight to newcastle . approx 2/3 hrs

Newcastle Gateshead's Art Fair, by snausages on Jul 28, 2008 18:14:34 GMT 1, Newcastle is much more beautiful & scenic than london in my opinion, although smaller of course and so less to do. London is not far by express train either if you want to take a 1 or 2 day side trip. Just buy those train tix far in advance or else you'll pay out the arse if you buy tix the day of travel.

Newcastle Gateshead's Art Fair, by Michael Jacob on Jul 28, 2008 19:06:53 GMT 1, Thanks for the info everyone. I checked all the airports, and its the same cost and time to fly right into newcastle from amsterdam. no matter what city i picked, all flights from detroit went into amsterdam. the only exception was going into london.

Newcastle Gateshead's Art Fair, by sham69 on Aug 1, 2008 11:57:19 GMT 1, I went to the fair last year. Absolutely s**te. Never has so much crap been sold by so few galleries to so few people.
Last year you could get round it in about 10 mins.
